I was in my favorite restaurant in Istanbul when about 15 teenage girls poured in, with loud talk and lots of laughter. Uh-oh, I thought, there goes my peaceful dinner. A friend I was with instead started chatting with the girls. They were Norwegian high school dance students in Istanbul for a week of instruction in belly dancing. They invited us to their recital, danced with us, and were the highlight of the trip. I heard only noise; my friend heard the laughter. But I learned a lesson.]]></description>
