It’s The Wuhan Virus, And Attention Should Be Paid

Boy, have I gotten a lot of grief for never capitulating to the thought-control demand that the contagion responsible for the pandemic, the lockdown, my business losing 45% of its income for two years (and counting), my sister wearing a mask in her car, seven-inning baseball games, an untrustworthy 2020 election and more be called the anodyne name “Covid 19,” or just “Covid” to its mask-obsessed friends. Here at Ethics Alarms, it is the Wuhan virus and always has been, because it was obvious from the start that China’s province is where this disaster (and its equally disastrous cover-up) started, but as usual of late, the mainstream media and progressives decided to use the adoption of a fair and informative name that ensures permanent responsibility, if not accountability, for millions of deaths and the savaging of the US economy for its favorite hobby of race-baiting. Yes, once again, the truth was racist, and censorship necessary because assholes incapable of rational thought would abuse facts to justify beating up and terrorizing anyone who looked Asian.

Well, I don’t constrain my communications skills and knowledge base for the convenience of idiots or ideologues (though I repeat myself). I also don’t correct the Covid-talkers any more : I just make a mental note that they are among those who are vulnerable to being co-opted by mobs and political correctness, and to watch my back.

This is all be way of introduction to the news that U.S. investigators have concluded that the virus escaped from the Wuhan lab where it was created as a military super-virus bioweapon for military purposes. This was reported by the venerable Sunday Times three days ago; the Times is not exactly the Tucker Carlson Show.

Nevertheless, guess which news sources in the U.S. have reported the reports. Oh come on, guess. The only one I can find is the National Review. All of the UK news sources have reported on the story in the past few days. Now guess which mainstream media outlets have decided to tell the public that all of their pro-China obfuscating and spin was exactly what many of us thought it was.

So far, none.

The New York Times doesn’t feel the information is “fit to print,” and the Washington Post wants the truth buried in “darkness.” After all, the truth is racist.

  1. Oh, come now, don’t you know all that stuff is “old news”? All that’s in the past. Frank Underwood would be proud.

  2. I do call it covid, not because I’m vulnerable to being coopted by the mob, but because I am vulnerable to influence by my mother. She puts on this really annoying, sing-song, shrill voice every time she says it and drags out all the syllables like an obnoxious child. Her mockery of the media has gotten stuck in my head. Every time I read the word covid it sounds like cooooooo-viiiiid in my head. Sigh. It rightly should have been called the Wuhan virus.

In the unanimous decision in Navy v Egan 484 U.S. 518 (1988), Justice Blackmun delivered the opinion of the Court and stated Trump had the authority to do exactly what he did and all Trump has to do is say he declassified them on his last day and he’s good to go!!!
“The President, after all, is the “Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States.” U.S.Const., Art. II, § 2. His authority to classify and control access to information bearing on national security and to determine whether an individual is sufficiently trustworthy to occupy a position in the Executive Branch that will give that person access to such information flows primarily from this constitutional investment of power in the President, and exists quite apart from any explicit congressional grant.” – Justice Blackmun

Based on many of the comments which contain epithets maligning a commenter, I have a hard time understanding why these readers use a site called Reason. It seems likely that they would be more likely to read something called MyWay or The Highway.
The commentariat harms the blog because I cannot assess that which is being written and debated. Here, while others might disagree vehemently with another’s points they rarely roll around in the mud like what I read at Reason.

    • …and Clinton had no such authority, and further, put TS documents out into the ether, which is just so blatantly illegal and inexcusable. She should have done time for that, but of course he is only a President, and she is a Clinton.

  4. I’ve been closely monitoring PRC media (e.g. Global Times, China Daily, CGTN, etc.) for their response to the Sunday Times report. It’s been a couple of days since the story was published, so that either means that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is fabricating one helluva creative rebuttal … or they’re just going to ignore it.

Like the old China watchers’ saying goes- “You never know what the truth is until it’s denied by the CCP.”

  5. Jack,
First thank you for sharing the Sunday Times article it was very informative. It did not come across as sensationalizing the information or sugarcoating it. While I understand your position, I use COVID in my discussions because I do not want my audience to close their minds before they hear the message I am trying to convey. The article clearly lays out suspicious behavior by most of the parties that could only be driven by the goal to obfuscate the truth. I have always believed in the adage that actions speak louder than words. That is clearly seen in the article.

I remember when the outbreak first occurred there were many actions that did not make sense based on previous patterns of individuals and nations. China locked down its cities but allowed its citizens to travel internationally. Why? In past epidemics, sick people were quarantined healthy people were not. Why the change? Who knew what and when? I remember videos of massive field hospitals being constructed in China to care for the sick very shortly after the outbreak. Yet at the beginning of the outbreak, the rest of the world was still trying to figure out what the hell was going on and China was not sharing much information. China seemed to know more than the rest of the world.

Prior to the outbreak, the Chinese Communist Party was facing some serious existential threats on two fronts. Trump who was determined to confront and combat China on an economic front was very probably a shoe in to be reelected. Second, Hong Kong was getting uppity and garnering worldwide attention. If China put down the protests forcefully it would risk condemnation in most US and European markets and spheres of influence.

I don’t suggest that China intentionally released the virus on the world but once it escaped the lab it would be very beneficial to China if it spread far and wide.

What I don’t understand is how reckless the US scientific researchers were. I don’t understand why the US government allowed the loophole to exist. I don’t understand why if the Wuhan lab did not have the expertise why it was given to them. I don’t understand why the government can dictate what light bulb you can use in your home but apparently has no restrictions on cutting-edge technology to enemy states. From the Times report:

“The truly cutting-edge experiments were being done in the US by the veteran virologist Ralph Baric at the University of North Carolina.” “Shi needed Baric’s expertise. She contacted him in 2013 and he agreed to help.”

I would like to know if the US policies and regulations that allowed the tech transfer and research to occur and be funded have been shut down. I would be willing to place a wager they have not.

And they say Trump is dangerous. The pandemic might not have happened were it not for Baric’s involvement. Here we sit arguing about transgenders, and Trump’s handling of documents. We truly have dangerous idiots or ruthless Basterds making decisions to protect us. Take your pick. Maybe a mix of both.
