THIS Is MSNBC!

Upset by Donald Trump’s mugshot, one of MSNBC’s racist hosts (it has several), Joy Reid, indulged herself in a full hate-rant meltdown, saying on the air,

“As a teenager living in New York, I’ve said it before, this is why I never watched ‘The Apprentice.’ I despised Donald Trump. He signified the rich white guy in Manhattan that absolutely hated and despised me. I still remember he made five teenagers my age  take a mug shot.  I despised Donald Trump because to me he signified the rich white guy in Manhattan that absolutely hated and despised me, my cousins, my friends”…So, people like Giuliani, and people like Trump, persecuted black and brown people in New York. It’s what they did for fun. It’s what they did for pleasure. They enjoyed it. They enjoyed lording over people who had nothing, who had no million-dollar lawyers. Who couldn’t change lawyers at the top of a hat and get a different hip-hop lawyer in the next day when they’re tired of one. Who couldn’t go to make their case on Fox, or a Newsmax, who had nothing, and who Donald Trump loaded his everything over. And still, people who looked like them, put him in rap longs. It was indignity, to me, that something I loved, a culture I loved, lionized that. To me, this is justice. The fact that Manhattan didn’t give him a mugshot, I thought was offensive. I thought that the feds, we know it looks like, he was the president of the United States. Okay, offensive. Everyone else had to take them. This case, and I think Fani Willis is a hero, she’s a national hero, because she, more than any other prosecutor in this country, and I respect Jack Smith, and I respect all the prosecutors that are doing this. She is the only one who said, these wealthy, powerful, privileged men and women are just American citizens and when they break the law, they will take that picture.”

No hate, bias, and fantasy here! Say what you may about Fox News and CNN, the other two outrageously untrustworthy, incompetent, biased and unethical broadcast news outlets (NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS are merely untrustworthy, incompetent, biased and unethical), at least they eventually dumped Tucker Carlson, Bill O’Reilly, Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo and Brian Stelter. There was a time when MSNBC had standards too: it fired Keith Olbermann when he went too too far (he always went too far), Melissa Harris Perry, another toxic anti-white racist, and Martin Bashir, but that was before Donald Trump ran for President, and MSNBC became the “anything goes” channel.

The above diatribe is so wildly unprofessional that any on-air talking head who spewed it anywhere else would have once been not merely fired but quite possibly hauled off for 24 hours observation, but not Joy, and not on MSNBC. MSNBC has cultivated a viewership that likes unadulterated hate, bigotry and emotional outbursts, and that isn’t even bothered when the unhinged rhetoric is ungrammatical and incoherent. That one would justify firing for cause at any responsible news organization even if the “facts” Reid referenced were all true, but they were about 80% nonsense. “The Apprentice” wasn’t on TV until she was in her 30’s, and long after the Central Park jogger case. She was raised in Colorado, and moved to Brooklyn at 17, shortly before attending Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts. David Dinkins, who was black, was the mayor of New York when the Central Park Five were wrongly arrested, not Rudy Giuliani, and neither Trump nor Giuliani, obviously, “made” the black teens get mugshots.

Naturally, a black MSNBC host faces no repercussions for announcing that she’s always hated Donald Trump in large part because he’s white and “rich.” (Reid is a millionaire herself).

But going into the details of what is wrong with Reid’s latest rant is superfluous. All that needs to be said is that someone capable of behaving like this shouldn’t be on national TV even once, never mind regularly, and that a news network that pays a hateful bigot for such conduct has disqualified itself to be taken seriously as anything but an engine of discord. A theme of MSNBC’s bigots and propagandists is that Donald Trump foments hate and divisiveness. As with the Democratic Party that MSNBC exists to bolster, the hypocrisy is apparent to anyone with the ability to interpret what their own eyes and ears relay to their brain.

  1. Joy Reid will be praised for this. This is her “lived experience.” Even if it’s made up. Doesn’t matter. It would get her into Harvard under the latest criteria used by schools to discriminate against white and Asian applicants.

  2. Thanksgiving At Ethics Alarms: The Ethics Holiday

Between that, her ridiculous bashing of the 1950s, and a host of other rants, at this point she’s just piling Ossa upon Pelion. She belongs on the same trash heap as Charles Blow, Keith Olbermann, and a bunch of other folks I could name, but the list would be too long. The role of analysts is to analyze. The role of the pundit is to give (presumably) learned opinions on a subject. The role of the newscaster is to give the news. This rant is none of the above, and so has no value. It has even less value because by now, everyone who’s been paying attention knows where Joy Reid is coming from. Ranting is all she’s good for, and that’s no good to anyone who hasn’t already drunk the koolaid.

  3. I truly feel bad for Joy Reid, I mean those nasty, evil, rich white males snatched her ancestors from Africa and brought them here to oppress them and prevented them from going back—wait, did you say her parents are actually immigrants (one from the paradise that is DR Congo and the other is from Guyana), and they came here voluntarily and succeeded far beyond their wildest dreams and far beyond what they can ever do where they came from?! Oopsies
P.S., it appears Joy has no issues working for and caching checks from rich white men owning and running MSNBC..
P.P.S., I’m not holding my breath waiting on that “Democracy Dies in Darkness” outlet to fact-check this asshole on her claims that Trump and Giuliani persecuted black and brown people in New York, and did that for fun and pleasure, and enjoyed it.

  4. Falsehoods? Check
    Malice? Check
If I were Trump MSNBC would be sued.

She is entitled to spew her opinion but given it is through the MSNBC mouthpiece that creates an appearance of journalism that should put MSNBC on the hook.

  5. OK, so many of her facts are wrong. So you can dismiss her as an idiot? But the real meat is her anger. And it is thought provoking because she is by no means alone. What is the rational or even ‘ethical ‘ response? Escalation – piling anger on anger, ridiculing her background, may be justified but where does it lead? “Blessed are the peacemakers”. Stoking further hatred is so much easier. Blood in the streets?

The hate mongering is a strategy to exert power over gullible innocent white people who will grovel at their feet in hopes of getting pardoned for the sins of those who came long before them. It is a bullying tactic and the only way to deal with bullies is to confront them. The gullible never learn that the bully will keep coming back for more.

It is she who has the loudspeaker that foments the hate, and no amount of kind response will have any effect on those who hang on her every word because she allows them to take refuge in blaming others for their own lack of industry.

The ethical response would be for Trump or Guliani to file a large enough suit against MSNBC for slander. Because this was broadcast nationally, and thus the harm occurred outside of New York, I would file the suit in a state favorable to the plaintiff(s). There is no doubt that malice is at the heart of this tirade.

  6. It is even more astonishing people would pay to watch Joy Reid than it is astonishing that people would pay to watch Adam Sandler.

She is the only one who said, these wealthy, powerful, privileged men and women are just American citizens and when they break the law, they will take that picture.”

So what is her opinion of FJB?

After all, there would be nothing with calling the president of Ukraine to take a second look at the circumstances of the firing of a prosecutor, right?
