Pro Ethics Tip To Trump: If You Can’t Learn The Golden Rule, At Least Be Cognizant Of The Glass House Problem…

Donald Trump was on thin ice making fun of Chris Christy’s weight, but he just proved that he had better eschew impugning Joe Biden’s age-related cognitive decline as well.

Addressing the Pray Vote Stand summit in Washington, Trump said, “We have a man who is totally corrupt and the worst president in the history of our country, who is cognitively impaired, in no condition to lead, and is now in charge of dealing with Russia and possible nuclear war. Just think of it. We would be in World War II very quickly if we’re going to be relying on this man, and far more devastating than any war.”

Oopsie! Trump presumably meant (I hope!) World War III, not the conflict that ended in 1945. That was a Bidenesque gaffe, and the equivalent of a pundit making a grammatical error while writing about how current high school grads can’t write. And that wasn’t all. Later in the same speech, Trump started confusing Biden with Barack Obama.

“As you know, crooked Joe Biden and the radical left thugs have weaponized law enforcement to arrest their leading political opponent, and leading by a lot, including Obama — I’ll tell you what,” he said, confusingly. “You take a look at Obama and take a look at some of the things that he’s done, this is the same thing.”

Trump is just three years younger than Biden, whom he declared too old to be President in an interview with Megyn Kelly that itself was laced with gibberish worthy of Joe. Biden is too old, and so is Trump, who is also far enough removed in erudition and IQ points from, say Daniel Pat Moynihan or George Will that mocking anyone’s mental state is itself evidence of cognitive deficiencies.

In that same SiriusXM interview with Kelly, Trump babbled things like this, “explaining” why he let Dr. Fauci have his way during the Wuhan pandemic: “I’m not one that blames a system, that if you’re civil service or if you have some other protection that you can’t get fired, because I’ve done things that are a lot worse than that.” Oh. He also denied that he awarded Fauci a Presidential commendation that had Trump’s name on it, saying, absurdly, “I don’t know who gave him the commendation. I really don’t know who gave him the commendation. Someone probably handed him a commendation.”

Right. Somebody ask President Biden; I’m sure he’ll claim that he gave it to Fauci, and probably believe it too.

Both of these geezers should have more empathy with the mental and linguistic challenges facing the other. Neither is on sound ground criticizing their opponent’s age and fitness to serve. Personally, I think they should quit the Presidential race and co-star in a tour of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” with Donald as Oscar and Joe as Felix. It would be boffo, if only they could learn their lines….

An amusing idea. However, Trump couldn’t be bothered to read the script and prefers to ad lib anyway. And Biden, who can’t even successfully read off a teleprompter, would likely be sleeping and drooling on the third page of the script during the first read-through.

Still, it would be a bit like going to a Grateful Dead show: you’d go knowing roughly what it’s SUPPOSED to be like, but also knowing that every show would be different.

  2. As a near-geezer myself -I’ll hit 70 in a few months- I fully agree that a younger generation of leaders is sorely needed by both parties. Just as a stopped clock is right twice a day, Mitt Romney was correct in his recent call for that “new generation” to step up. I have less confidence that he really desires a conservative, constitutionalist future for the Republican Party or the country.

  3. I do not enjoy watching people’s mental acuity decline. If Trump’s mind is actually deteriorating, I hope that it comes fast enough to keep him from getting the nomination.
