Brava Brianna Coppage, The Sort-Of Ethical Naked Teacher

That’s Brianna in all three photos.

As stated right above in the Ethics Alarms Glossary, The Naked Teacher Principle: states that “a secondary school teacher or administrator (or other role model for children) who allows pictures of himself or herself to be widely publicized, as on the web, showing the teacher naked or engaging in sexually provocative poses, cannot complain when he or she is dismissed by the school as a result.” The NTP, as we call it for short, has been a staple of Ethics Alarms from the beginning…well, a little after the beginning, since the first installment of the series goes back to the old Ethics Scoreboard, which is still up for your edification and entertainment, here. The first Naked Teacher was Tamara Hoover, whom I discussed in 2005. On Ethics Alarms, the NTP, in addition to its classic versions, has many sundry variations, all of which can be found here. An unexpected variation just surfaced last month, with the “The Naked Porn-Performing Political Candidate Principle.”

But Brianna Coppage, the soon to be ex-English at St. Clair High School in St. Clair, Mo., is in one respect the perfect Naked Teacher by Ethics Alarms standards. After all, she understands how the NTP works and why.

School officials discovered that she was performing on the pornography website OnlyFans, and now she is on obligatory administrative leave before they fire her. She tells us that she fully expects this to be the end of her teaching career, and that she has been worried that her moonlighting job to supplement her $42,000 a year income would be discovered. to supplement her salary.

“It was kind of always like this cloud hanging over my head, like I never knew when I would be discovered,” Coppage said in an interview. “Then, about two weeks ago, my husband and I were told that people were finding out about it. So I knew this day was coming.”

Boy, I hope she’s a better porn performer than she was an English teacher, if that teen-speak is typical of her language skills.

“I’m very aware that I am probably never going to teach again, but that was kind of the risk I knew I was taking. I am sad about that. I do miss my students, ” she said. “I do not regret joining OnlyFans. I know it can be taboo, or some people may believe that it is shameful, but I don’t think sex work has to be shameful. I do just wish things just happened in a different way.”

As post-discovery NTP cases go, that’s a decent reaction. She’s not indignant. She’s taking responsibility. She doesn’t blame the school.

Of course, she can afford to be philosophical, since she says she has mad $8,000 to $10,000 per month performing on OnlyFans. The publicity from her outing has attracted another hundred subscribers, too. She will be, as my dad used to say, “crying all the way to the bank.”

  1. “The NTP, as we call it for short, has been a staple of Ethics Alarms from the beginning”

And just kinda snowballed from there; the talented Ms. Coppage hasn’t underestimated the taste of the American public, am I right?

H/T to my pal OB for his investigative prowess!

    • My favorite fact revealed is she’s happily married to her husband who’s evidently okay with his wife doing porn. What is wrong with these people? They want to squander their youthful intimacy and the height of their sexually active years for what? Wales? A few shekels? That’s really depressing. And wait until they have kids. “Dude! Your Mom’s on Only Fans! Can we come over and watch?”

  2. With how wide-spread OF and “other” sites are for such work, I’m astonished that the content isn’t more ‘protected’. I’ve never visited such sites myself, but I’m at least vaguely familiar with how they work because of either ads on social media platforms or just scraped content or images. So, the content security is pretty lame to start, but then you realize – well, there’s no “geo-fencing” for the creators.

As a teacher – wouldn’t you want to geo-fence a 60 mile radius for your content to decrease the likelihood you are uncovered? Heck, even exclude your state to ensure none of your state board of education types aren’t able to easily uncover you? I would think it would be a relatively simple technology to implement…

    • … and the VPN is a relatively simple technology to circumvent such measures.

As an I.T. professional, it is astonishing how many times I’ve had to tell people something along the lines of “Technical solutions are appropriate for technical problems. If what you have is really a people problem, then you’re going to be frustrated when you try to solve it with technical solutions.”

      • Agreed. I alluded to this in my wording that they wouldn’t be “easily” exposed. I would wager the vast majority of a virulent event would be tamed by a general lack of a VPN. How much of the population knowingly establishes and uses a VPN?

Sure, school boards could stand up an inquistor and do just that, but then why don’t they already have inquisitors constantly checking their teachers rather than waiting for this viral moment? (It’s because they don’t want to know.)

Heck, I’ve established a VPN, but I use it like once every other month. It’s not my default. So – it’s not a silver bullet – but it would tamp down the virulence.
