At least a lot of Harvard professors were sufficiently disgusted by 31 Harvard student groups attacking Israel for “making” Hamas launch a sneak terrorist attack and further engaging in objectively evil conduct—
—to issue this open letter, signed by about 160 professors (including Alan Dershowitz–twice!):
The letter was in part a reaction to the initial response of the Harvard leadership, encouraging affiliates to “remember that we are one Harvard community” and “embody the care and compassion the world needs now.” “We have no illusion that Harvard alone can readily bridge the widely different views of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but we are hopeful that, as a community devoted to learning, we can take steps that will draw on our common humanity and shared values in order to modulate rather than amplify the deep-seated divisions and animosities so distressingly evident in the wider world,” the statement said.
Response to that mealy-mouthed babble was sufficiently negative that new Harvard President Claudine Gay tried a do-over:
Observations:
1. Harvard has an estimated 2400 faculty, lecturers and teaching staff. I don’t find 160 professors openly condemning terrorism ennobling.
2. The Obama quote at the end almost cancels out the entire letter for me, but not quite. Obama’s wan support for Israel and his strengthening of Iran, Hamas’s sponsor, was a major factor in convincing Hamas that his would-be clone Joe Biden an the Democratic Party would not vigorously oppose their long-planned invasion. The only “just peace” Palastinians will accept is one that eliminates Israel , They have made that abundantly clear for almost a hundred years.
3. Gay’s claim that students do not speak for Harvard an abdication of responsibility. If 31 student groups endorse terrorism, then Harvard had done a terrible job conveying values, critical thinking skills, and the ability to assess facts and consequences. Those pro-terrorism, anti-Semitic groups speak very eloquently about what Harvard has become.
4. Universities should not have to comment on political, domestic or world affairs, and would be better off if they did not, remaining neutral in all but the most extreme situations. But that genie is out of the bottle forever. Harvard couldn’t keep its institutional mouth shut regarding Black Lives Matter, for example.

I think a Harvard degree requires something more shameful than turning it to the wall now. Perhaps roll it up and keep it by the toilet.
These “students” have discovered that Harvard graduates risk becoming pariahs in the business world and may find it difficult to get a decent job upon graduation. Accordingly, they’ve taken to covering their faces and concealing their identities. They would support evil and inhuman barbarism but want to do it anonymously, and think they shouldn’t experience any consequences.
