This explains a lot.
Last night, watching a World Series I wasn’t really all that interested in out of obligation to The Game, I was, because I’m an incurable optimist and sap akin to Pollyanna and and Shirley Temple, startled by the ad above that popped up between innings. Titled “Hate Rises,” its primary message was to “stand up to Jewish hate,” which is certainly currently relevant, since college campuses and Democratic cities are roiling with anti-Semitism and violence threatening Jews because the nation of Israel isn’t willing to let bygones be bygones after the Palestinian terrorist government slaughtered 40 infants, among other acts of savagery.
But I noticed that when the final message quickly scrawled through “all” hate, one kind of bigotry and hateful vilification was omitted. Stand Up To JEWISH/MUSLIM/BLACK/ASIAN/HISPANIC/LGBTQ Hate the ad concluded. Well, that about covers it! Wait a minute…
There was no mention of WHITE hate being rampant, and it is. Members of Congress have expressed, indeed endorsed it openly; so have celebrities, academics at elite institutions, public school teachers, school board members, and Hollywood celebrities. Don’t tell me the catch-all “ALL” at the end of the list was meant to include the target of the most open and shameless hate of the past decade or more. I may be gullible and a glass half-full kind of ethicist, but I’m not THAT gullible.
The ad defined “all” the hate it was concerned about. The sponsors are a progressive organization, and they aren’t fools. They know, as the saying goes, “which side of the bread their bread is buttered on.” They want to be part of the club, and this club regards whites as cultural enemies. Including “WHITE” in that rapidly changing sequence would have taken an extra nanosecond. Don’t pretend it wasn’t discussed when the ad was made. The omission was deliberate.
You have to admit, it is a slick trap: “Standing Up to White Hate”—you know, like this post is— risks getting you squinty looks. “Hey, doesn’t he seem like a white supremacist…?
What’s going on here? Yesterday the conservative blogger Neo deftly described what’s going on. The post titled, “The bigger picture: the ascendance of the post-modern left and the glorification of the ‘oppressed'” explained,
One of the tenets of leftism is the idea that the world divides neatly into oppressed and oppressor. You are one or the other, and there’s no escaping it. What’s more, the oppressed are defined as good no matter what their behavior; there are no objective standards for judging them except their defined status as oppressed. That is why we see it said that black people cannot be racists, even when they obviously are expressing hatred towards other races. That is why the George Floyd riots were perfectly okay and the J6 defendants were evil. That is why Nick Sandmann had a face so many wanted to punch, and his harassers were protected by the press and the left. And of course that is why murderous savagery by Hamas is justified by virtue-signaling college students….
Exactly. There has to be someone left to hate, and even while condemning prejudice and discrimination, “standing up” to white hate is just too risky, even during the World Series.
Related? Ethics Dunce? The Great Stupid? All of the above?
The American Ornithological Society has committed to replacing all bird names derived from people so as not to honor figures with racist pasts.
Mrs. OB mentioned this. I assumed it was to eliminate people who’d owned slaves or hadn’t been contributors to BLM or watch Rachel Maddow.
Hey, stop scooping me! I was writing a post about this when your comment appeared!
Actually, I was hoping my post would alert you to the article in case you missed it. I’m looking forward to your post.
I know—I was just joshing. It’s up.
They are completely tone-deaf. This article here by the NYT that has all the earmarks of Republicans Pounce as it preps for propagandizing for the Democrats in 2024:

Meanwhile, VP Harris announced a National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia. Why is it that, after terrorist attacks committed by Muslims, everyone freaks out about Islamophobia? There is no doubt that there are Islamophobes in this country and they are capable of vicious acts of violence. I just don’t understand why the victims of Muslim-inspired terrorism aren’t given more support.
Because Jews are Jews. They’re oppressors. That commercial was awful. Of course, it was basically saying, “the Jews are bad, don’t hate Muslims, they’re the good guys.” It’s this false equivalency thing that’s going around.
“What’s more, the oppressed are defined as good no matter what their behavior; there are no objective standards for judging them except their defined status as oppressed. ”
Given we have a very good recent example of this, I would 100% believe it.
Good news. Kamala Harris is establishing an Islamophobia task force!
The Dems are evidently worried about losing Michigan and the presidency. They have to win Detroit, so…
I went to lunch with my team yesterday and playing on the restaurant TV – which was muted – was CNN with a report about VP Harris getting up and giving a talk about AI. She stood up and spoke and though I couldn’t hear what she said, I’m guessing the silence I heard out-smarted her.
The reduction of moral status to group membership is one half of the story of how the Left’s system of ethics lost its way. The other half is about a focus on outcomes over conduct. Hamas continues to routinely fire unguided rockets, indiscriminately, in the direction of Israeli population centers. These rockets have basically no chance of damaging a military asset, so Hamas doesn’t bother pretending to even try. They are simply weapons of terror for use against civilians. But they’re almost all intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome system, so civilian casualties are few. Conversely, Israel uses precision-guided weapons against identified military targets, but because Hamas shields these targets with civilian bodies, there’s a constant parade of civilian casualties. To the Left, that makes Hamas the victim, because they suffer more casualties. Israel’s diligence in defending their people counts towards proving Hamas’ good character, as Hamas’ callousness towards their own is taken as proving Israel’s depravity. It’s the same reason why George Floyd or Jacob Blake get considered folk heroes.
An outstanding analysis!
