Ethics Dunce: NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, And A Nelson

Let me say at the outset that the NFL and, by extension, all of its teams are so thoroughly and constantly corrupt and unethical that its periodic examples of ethical obtuseness—other than paying its players to cripple themselves, which is ongoing—should probably be categorized under The Julie Principle, as in “Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, pro football’s unethical, stop wond’ring why…” This episode is also part of the Hamas-Israel Ethics Train Wreck, however, so it’s worthy of a post.

George Norcross, who is a prominent and wealth Democratic Party activist and power broker, hung a combined American and Israeli flag from his private box at the Eagle’s Lincoln Financial Field during the team’s against the Dallas Cowboys two days ago. Stadium security confronted Norcross over the flags and took him into custody after he refused to remove them. Then they took them down.

The Eagles cited its policy that “signs, banners or similar items that are obscene or indecent, unrelated to the event, potentially offensive to other patrons, that may block the views of other fans or that are otherwise considered dangerous or inappropriate by the Eagles are prohibited.”

The team certainly has the right to decide what is allowed on its property during games, but it must be recalled that all NFL teams not only allowed Black Lives Matter declarations from spectators but has prominently displayed such sentiments themselves. That message also has nothing to do with football, and it was certainly potentially offensive as well as inappropriate, especially since the NFL was aiding and abetting in a scam by promoting the Marxist, racist, often-violent group.

One wonders (“one” being me) if the treatment of the messages might have been reversed if over 70% of NFL players were Jewish instead of black.

Norcross is perturbed. He says he is considering a lawsuit (which he would undoubtedly lose). “Yesterday, I was forcibly removed and assaulted by the non-police security staff of Lincoln Financial Field and the Eagles/NFL for refusing to remove a 3′ x5′ American and Israeli flag I’d hung off the box I was sitting in,” Norcross said.  “As a longtime passionate fan and season ticket holder, I have watched the Eagles/NFL make clear and strong statements on numerous important civil justice issues and ethnic and world conflicts, including supporting the people of Ukraine, so as a strong supporter of Israel – a country which was viciously attacked by the terrorist group Hamas less than a month ago – I thought it was an important statement to make.”

Cue the World’s Tiniest Violin. His party is substantially responsible for politicizing every corner of American life so there is no escape; it endorsed the non-football related on-field protests of Colin Kaepernick and called those who objected racists; it has encouraged cynical virtue-signalling by corporations in favor of faddish progressive agenda items, and now it is being hoisted by its own petard, with addled progressives who equate Palestinians with the whole basket of “oppressed groups” that make up the Democratic constituency revealing their ignorance and anti-Semitism. Moreover, hypocrisy of the sort Norcross experienced last Sunday is also a calling card of the party he supports so passionately. After all, it calls Republicans “fascists.”

Norcross also supports the most unethical professional sports league, and is shocked when it behaves unethically. These are his unethical, hypocritical, metaphorical beds, and he needs to lie on both of them, perhaps switch off in the middle of the night. In fact, this warrants a Nelson:

  1. This is SO ironic. The Eagles are essentially American Jewry’s team. I’ve never understood why, they just are. And the majority of professional sports franchises are owned by Jewish families. Why? Because sports franchises are the best large, long-term investment available right now what with legalized betting and televised sports being the only thing people actually watch live and sit through the beer commercials to do so. And gee wiz, who’s the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles franchise? Why, it’s Jeffrey Luria, a nice Jewish boy himself! I am shocked!
