Sure, Chris Cuomo Is An Idiot, But His Shameless Admission Indicts All Of Journalism

Well, at least the troll presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has some uses. His hectoring pulled an “A Few Good Men”- style “You’re goddamn right I did!” confession from ex-CNN pretty boy hack Chris Cuomo. Fredo wasn’t admitting that he ordered a “Code Red,” though/ Instead, Cuomo spat out proof not just of his own lack of journalistic ethics but also of the ethics void in U.S. journalism as a whole.

At one point in his contentious interview on Cuomo’s NewsNation cable show, Ramaswamy challenged the host to “Look the audience in the eye and tell them how you covered for your brother.” Cuomo immediately shot back, “You don’t want to take care of your family, that’s fine. Of course I covered for my brother. Of course I help my brother. Of course I do.”

From this we can conclude that:

1. Cuomo did not and does not comprehend the basic ethical obligations of any professional, which include not to abuse the trust of those who depend on the ethical performance of his responsibilities by exploiting them to benefit personal issues and to advance personal agendas.

2. Worse, he thinks the betrayal of trust this habit represents is admirable.

3. He would not proclaim this if the entire culture of American journalism supported and encouraged such conduct.

4. There is no difference, ethically, from “Of course I help my brother” and “Of course we help [Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Democrats, illegal immigrants, anti-gun zealots, etc.]. It is the same mindset, and the same corruption.

5. This is the culture at CNN, which tolerated and enabled Cuomo’s biased and agenda-driven journalism, and presumably that of its other alleged journalists.

6. It is also the culture in every news media organization today. Cuomo would not say “of course” he deliberately misled his audiences if he wasn’t convinced that there isn’t anything wrong with that approach in his industry because that’s how his industry thinks now. The ends justify the means. Informing the public isn’t their mission; making sure that the public the way journalists want them to think is.

Yes indeed, I know that Cuomo may be dumber than most high-profile journalists. That, however, just means that he is likely to be especially susceptible to absorbing uncritically the values and attitudes of those around him.

Are journalists routinely using their position, power and influence to “help” causes, individuals, organizations and movements they approve of while handicapping those they oppose?

Of course. Of course.

  1. That is simply why we have to read around. Or go where we know what the bias is likely to be, so we can adjust if we want to.

  2. There’s a more obvious explanation for Fredo’s answer: He’s a fuckin’ Guinea. A Sicilian. A Paisan. Who’s he more loyal to? Some mythical idea of professional ethics? Fuggetaboutit. Blood is thicker than water. They disrespected his brother. They should have come to the boys with respect.

    Assholes.

  3. Today I looked at the X/Twitter account of “the troll presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy”. I saw a lot of statements from him, for instance, his 10 truths, that I found rather principled and ethical valid.

I assume you call him “the troll presidential candidate” because he has no chance of winning. Is my assumption correct?

  4. The fact that you were able to write #6 – and be right about it – is the most damning indictment of the media. From sole of foot to crown of head, they know they are partisan and they don’t feel the need to hide it, temper it, or euphemize it. They are no longer journalists, they are “freedom fighters”, and they have largely played from the same handbook that Hamas and all the rest of the terrorists use: manipulate until you reach a position of power, then intimidate.
