Boomerang! The Unethical Law New York Passed To Get Donald Trump Just Nailed NYC’s Black, Democrat Mayor!

If anything rates a Nelson, this does.

Back in May, I posted an Ethics Quiz asking if the Adult Survivors Act signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul in 2022 to suck up to #MeToo voters was ethical. It provides a one-year window for people (aka women) to bring lawsuits over alleged sexual assaults occurring years or decades ago. Now a #MeToo law suit against New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been filed in the New York Supreme Court just before the law’s grace period expires today.

I wrote,

It was and is a blatantly political measure, pandering to the #MeToo crowd, which itself is deeply conflicted and corrupt. Now bad, bad men like Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby and…surprise! Donald Trump, can be sued during a convenient one year window no matter how long ago their alleged sexual misconduct took place, or how blurry memories of the details may be. Never mind that the protection against unfair sexual assault and sexual harassment lawsuits based on accusations that only surface when the accuser calculates that there are forces at play in society (like “Believe all woman”) making a victory likely should be available to all citizens. Never mind that such late-hit lawsuits rely on emotion and politics as much as evidence

Ace commenter Glenn Logan called for SCOTUS to use the law as an opportunity to overrule Calder v. Bull, which held that only criminal laws were subject to the ex post facto prohibition of Article I section 10 of the US Constitution. “This is a perfect example of why such laws were forbidden; they were used as cudgels against political enemies after the fact,” he wrote. Glenn also noted that the lNew York aw was obviously designed to permit Jean Carroll to contribute to the Democratic Party effort to derail Donald Trump’s campaign to regain the Presidency by weaponizing the courts.

It was, but now the party’s petard has come back to do some embarrassing hoisting. The lawsuit accuses Mayor Eric Adams of New York of sexually assaulting a Florida woman three decades ago, in 1993, when Adams was a New York police officer, and seeks $5 million in damages. It also names the Police Department as a defendant. Adams denies the accusation and says he doesn’t recall ever meeting his accuser.

You may recall that I was blackballed by a NPR radio host for correctly pointing out on the air that the sexual harassment laws permit a woman who found a sexual advance pleasant and harmless at the time to decide decades later that it was harassment under the influence of political, partisan, or other biases and influences. Bill Cosby-type cases notwithstanding, I am increasingly drawn to a conclusion the #MeTooish accusations should be subjected to a very short statute of limitations, ideally two years or less.

  1. Eric Adams seems to be a dead man walking for some reason. He’s being attacked from lots of quarters. He must have done something to have angered whoever it is in New York or Democrat politics that pulls the appropriate in his case strings. Very surprising. If he had the usual praetorian guard, this suit would have never been brought. This woman and her lawyer would have been paid off or otherwise discouraged from proceeding.

      • Correct. Pepple who don’t March in lockstep with the dogma are acceptable collateral damage if there’s bigger fish to fry.

The Democrats have no problem throwing one of their own under the bus for political points.

        • Interesting. You really think it’s his not saying, “Thank you sir, may I have another,” to the kiddie corps running the “Biden” administration open borders project that has put Eric in the doghouse. I’m assuming there are other contributing misdeeds. They’re really going at him hammer and tong. Interesting. I thought they were rehabilitating Andrew Cuomo to take over the Gracie Mansion, but he too has been served with a last-minute sexual harassment complaint by a former staff member. A hilarious mass race to the courthouse.

    • He actually went to DC to lobby for support in securing the border. That is when the feds started investigating his campaign. I think he left in the middle of a meeting with a member of Congress when he was told the feds raided the apartment of his campaign finance head.
