Stories like this one coming up—another Great Stupid epic, again with links to the George Floyd Ethics Train Wreck—have been proliferating lately. When I first saw the headline on a report that D.C.’s black, woke, totally incompetent mayor Muriel Bowser had “re-painted” her insane giant Black Lives Matter mural, confirmation bias kicked in: I read it to mean that she had finally removed the insulting monstrosity by having it painted over. I was even preparing a post about how trying to undo a massive ethics botch often calls attention to what was so wrong in the first place, and that in this case, Bowser was in ethics zugzwang because so many of her residents are still blind Black Lives Matter supporters, aka. anti-white, anti-police, anti-America racists.
But that’s not what the story said. The real story is that Bowser chose now to spruce up the huge, infamous street mural shouting “Black Lives Matter” that she had painted in 2020 as BLM mobs were “mostly peacefully” demonstrating through the city and the nation, at times confronting white D.C. diners and demanding that they pledge fealty to the Marxist movement. The refurbishment cost $271,231, including $217,680 in labor costs and $53,551 in paint supplies.
I’m calm! Bowser decided to spend taxpayer money on maintaining a racist mural. Hey, it’s not my money! The contractor assigned the job, completed on November 9th, wrote on Facebook : “As a black and women owned DC business, we couldn’t be prouder of our crew. A lot of elbow grease went into this project and we are incredibly happy with how it turned out. Thanks for Helping us Change the World, One Line at a Time.”
D.C. has certainly been “changed” since BLM ran amuck. According to data from the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, homicides are up 34% as of November 28 over the same period in 2022, while robberies are up 68%, motor vehicle theft has increased 93% and arson is up 125%. Violent crime stats show a 40% increase this year, while all crime is up 27%, the data shows. This has all occurred after Bowser slashed the police budget by millions to support her favorite organization’s decree that police were evil, and to have more money available for racist murals.
It’s a particularly strange time to reaffirm the mayor’s endorsement of Black Lives Matter. The organization has been exposed as a scam that misused millions of dollars of contributions, which ended up in the pockets of the leadership. More recently, in late October, 25 members of the House and Senate including Senators Marco Rubio, Thom Tillis, Lindsay Graham, and Marsha Blackburn, signed a letter to Bowser asking her to “remove the street painting that reads ‘Black Lives Matter’ after that movement’s celebration of violent antisemitic terrorism.” The letter cited several examples, including a post from the D.C. BLM chapter that accuses Israel of “apartheid,” and a post from the BLM Chicago chapter that endorsed the Hamas terrorist attack of October 7. “BLM has circulated disturbing antisemitic rhetoric and images on social media and is encouraging the spread of pro-Hamas propaganda following the terrorist attacks,” Sen. Graham said in a statement accompanying the letter. Mayor Bowser did not respond…until she spent over a quarter million dollars to double down.
‘Take that, you Jews!’
Even my crazy neighbor who had kept a suit of medieval armor in her front lawn next to a 4 X 6 hand-painted wooden sign reading “Black Lives Matter” took the thing down this year after the group’s conduct embarrassed her.
Ah well. Nothing to get over-heated about. I’m calm. After all, it’s only our nation’s capital. Besides, the Great Stupid is wearing me down. I’ll be expecting this kind of thing from now on.
Ethics Alarms 
I would be investigating the amount of the expenditure. This appears to be a payback to a black business owner. Where was the public notice for bids?
That is a capital improvement project which should require a specific allocation by the Council.
These activities give many of us a reason to question the racial animus such mayors have toward the actual minority races in their communities. Exclusion of other races to give preference to their own cannot be excused because they feel compelled to protect their own.
It seems to me that Congress could reduce their allocation to DC for an equivalent amount of this expenditure.
Oh, Congress can do more than that: its has already made noises threatening home rule.
The idea that the district is an independent political subdivision has created numerous problems since home rule was initiated.
The District was never intended to be such and Maryland would not have granted the land had it been envisioned to be a political subdivision.
Regarding the increase in crime, you can be assured there are plenty of lefties out there who will say it’s all because of covid, or it was worse during Trump, and then they’ll conclude by telling you, effectively, “It ain’t so bad!”
The Mayor of Chicago stated the Right wing extremists “target democratically ran cities” to sow chaos and disruption especially cities run by POC’s.
He also stated Republicans have been doing this since the beginning
Actually Chris, I think lefties and CRT people want to decriminalize all sorts of offenses so there are fewer criminals. If you don’t put people in jail for anything, there won’t be any people in jail. Presto Chango! Plus, I really think they want chaos to bring in the end of history and a perfect society, all run by them.
I don’t doubt that but they want to blame it on the Republicans.
Of course they do, they blame everything on Republicans. Democrats are so brainwashed by their cult that they believe it. Most Democrats will easily believe that the poor education delivered in Chicago is due to racism of those evil white Republicans trying to cripple the poor black community. Chicago Public Schools spends $29,000 per student with a school board that has been overwhelmingly black Democrats for decades in a city controlled by Democratic politicians for decades, and hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1931. But it is the Republicans that have caused all the problems and the Democrats are powerless to solve them.
