…do you know what the difference is between him and this Alabama cop?
Moral luck. That’s all.
If the tasering killed the man, and it was possible, she’d be exactly as culpable as Chauvin. She might be more culpable, because her victim wasn’t actively resisting arrest when she used the weapon.
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt! Auuughhh! 😮 That vas forty. Ze dial goes to two hundred. Now, vill you tell us what ve want, or zhall ve go to fifty? Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt!
Of course the video is edited to only show the part that makes the officer look bad. I want to see the whole encounter before making a judgement on the officer’s conduct.
That makes no sense. It doesn’t natter if he had been squashing the heads of infants like eggs. He was subdued and handcuffed. The Taser is for subduing perps, not punishment
We hire police officers to act professionally who have the ability to decrease their emotional responses to stressors quickly. Even if this suspect created stress for the officer initially he was in cuffs and not appearing to pose a threat. Her behavior was unprofessional and gives the police bashing public all they need to create the impression that this is endemic among police toward blacks
I agree with you Jack. To me this was an assault and criminal. Where I disagree is that while it may be moral luck he was not killed, had he been killed she would be far more culpable than Chauvin.
She had the taser in his back from the start and used it without a reason.
A Fulton county (Atlanta, where Trump is indicted) judge has accepted a plea deal of a $500 fine, probation, and community service, for two BLM rioters who burned down a Wendy’s. The riots followed a George Floydish incident where a black man died in a fight with police, after he stole one officer’s taser and fired it at him. During a short-lived “autonomous zone” period, the riots also resulted in the gunshot death of a passing 8 yr old girl, and attempts by BLM to frame the Proud Boys by leaving fake notes at the sites of their crimes, like torched police cars.
But hey, they were all probably mostly peaceful.

Well there’s a lot different and we all know the details are what matter in court.
The major difference is he didn’t die.
That being said, she’ll probably go to jail. The police department will probably be sued. I also don’t know what the point is of bringing up Chauvin.
“The major difference is he didn’t die.” And that’s pure moral luck. Neither the knee nor the taser are likely to kill or intended to kill.
I mean…I dont think it’s moral luck since the guy was saying he couldn’t breathe while he had his knee on his neck.
Which I’m not even sure is an approved maneuver from what I remember from the trial.
It’s why he was found guilty and he was considered negligent since Floyd was saying he couldn’t breathe for so long.
A cop wouldn’t be charged with murder for simply using a taser. What this female cop did wasn’t inherently more dangerous than other uses of a taser…it’s her reasoning for using the taser that was wrong.
This cop isn’t lucky this guy didn’t die. There’s no reason to expect him to die. But there was absolutely an expectation for Floyd to die since he kept crying out that he couldn’t breathe.
Totally different situations.
Read the Loury post, please. The evidence is that Floyd was saying that he couldn’t breathe BEFORE he was kneed. That raises causation issues, to say the least.
Right and I’m not sure that changes my point at all.
If someone is in the middle of having a panic attack and instead of getting them medical attention, you put them on the ground and put your knee on their neck until they die…well you may be found culpable in their death.
But again, the Chauvin case was materially different than this female cop with the taser. In more than a few ways.
