When Ethics Alarms Don’t Ring: An NFL Coach’s Pep Talk Invokes 9-11 Terrorist Teamwork For Inspiration

Apparently all of the pro-terrorism vibes coming from the American Left these days prompted someone to finally reveal that Sean McDermott, head coach of the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, told his players at the 2019 training camp to emulate the teamwork of the plane hijackers who brought down the Twin Towers and bombed the Pentagon. After all, he explained, they “were all able to get on the same page to orchestrate attacks to perfection.” The coach led his player through the exercise of considering that daunting obstacles the attackers faced. “What tactics do you think they used to come together?” he asked.

I wonder why he didn’t use the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor instead. The Japanese really did a terrific job in achieving their mission. Or the way Santa Ana carried out the pre-dawn massacre of the men in the Alamo: that was quite a well-executed plan too. Come to think of it, I’d save that one until he has a coaching job in Dallas or Houston…

The strange, previously unpublicized incident was revealed last week by Tyler Dunne, a sports journalist and substacker. This mandated a press conference for the coach to explain himself, and McDermott admitted that he had not done “a good enough job of communicating clearly the intent of my message.” Oh, was that the problem? Is there a good way to invoke the acts of murderers who killed over 3,000 innocent American citizens that day to inspire the Bills?

I guess there aren’t any historical examples of teamwork and planning to accomplish admirable goals….

Naturally, being an idiot with a rutabaga installed where his ethics alarm was supposed to be, McDermott also couldn’t muster a real apology. “If anyone misinterpreted or didn’t understand my message, I apologize,” he said.

Buuuut, for those who are motivated by the brilliant planning of the terror attacks and the courageous sacrifice sacrifices of the attackers, McDermott seemingly believes he has nothing to apologize for! Hey Coach: have you read about how the Hamas terrorists of October 7 planned and executed their attack on unsuspecting Israelis? Use that one in a locker room speech. It will really fire up the team…especially if you save it for the Yale game if you end up coaching at Harvard.

  1. If nothing else, the guy’s an idiot. There were fewer than 20 terrorists hijacking the planes on 9/11. Can I cite just a few examples of operations that really did require intricate organization, coordination, and execution?

Operations Overlord, Market-Garden, the Schlieffen plan, almost any amphibious assault operation in WWII. Obviously they didn’t all work, but they were intricately planned, organized and executed.

Or maybe — he’s a football coach — he just has trouble counting past 11.

Maybe now we really know why the Buffalo Bills haven’t been to the Super Bowl in this century.

    • Not to mention that one guy got caught and could have blown the whole operation.

Then, you had the plane that could not find the White House.

And, you had another plane that did not reach any target.
