College Fix, which has been the source of several EA posts this year, has provided an amusing (or depressing) compendium of 71 people, places and things that “were declared racist or in need of ‘anti-racist’ action” by academics or on college campuses. The list is, shall we say, provocative and revealing. Here are 25 of my favorites and their links; Ethics Alarms covered some of them:
Black cops who killed black man
Cops and robbers display that included a black student as a robber
Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Verdi
“field”
For some reason, the site omitted a recent example: the label of racist being attached to anyone who agreed that Harvard’s unqualified, inept and plagiarizing president was not fit to lead the nation’s most prestigious institution of high learning.
My favorite one is the Michigan Tech history and anthropology professor who thinks students shouldn’t be allowed to know about the Berlin Wall. Well, he probably is just frustrated because he is at a school full of engineering students who only take his class because it is required and don’t have time for his leftist view of history.
A history professor who says it is a good thing if students are ignorant of history is all you need to know about the state of history as a profession in this country.
Michigan Tech is not a school for weenies. It is a good, 2nd chance engineering school. It had 2 protests during the Vietnam War; both were for it. The dorms used to have pistol ranges and the dorm RA’ had gun lockers in their rooms to house the students’ deer rifles and handguns (at least they did in the 1990’s). Deer hunting was permitted and generally, if someone killed a deer, they cooked it and the entire dorm floor would eat it that day. A friend of mine made his own deer rifle as his project in his machine shop class there.
Imagine this history professor’s existence in such a place, stuck on the Keweenah Peninsula , snowed in by 300″ of snow a year with no global warming in sight, and forced to teach the students above.
One of my longtime Usenet allies put it best:

addressing someone as “maam or sir,
having a master “bedroom”
singing White Christmas
celebrating Christmas
getting a bachelor or masters degree
liking cornbread and watermelon
just being a white heterosexual male
I not only like cornbread and watermelon, but fried chicken is one of my favorite foods. I’m doomed!
Now I want to make fried chicken and cornbread for dinner. You did this to me.
