Police were called to Miner’s Claim restaurant n Silt, Colorado two nights ago after Rep. Boebert and her ex-husband Jayson Boebert got into a physical battle at their table, police confirmed yesterday. I decided to give Marryin’ Sam and Li’l Abner an encore, because they were my first thought when I read about the latest example of Broebert’s trashy proclivities.
The previous episode, when she got herself thrown out of a Denver theater for the kind of behavior that even a Dogpatch neighbor of Abner’s might have realized was inappropriate, was arguably worse, but together the two embarrassments are conclusive evidence that she doesn’t belong in Congress. She belongs in a trailer park.
Boebert’s ex- said that Boebert had punched him in the face several times during their dining experience, though in the end, he didn’t press charges. The Congresswoman, just as she had when she was tossed out of the audience during a performance of “Beetlejuice,” denied everything. “This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason why I’m moving,” she said. “I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”
Right. The police were called because she was just minding her own business and was quietly being civilized like everyone else in the restaurant. Boebert had already announced that she will be running for Congress in a different district because she has so fouled the nest in her current one that she can’t possibly be re-elected. There are legions of past members of Congress who served for decades without a single episode where they behaved like “The Andy Griffith Show’s” recurring character Ernest T. Bass,
….who periodically came out of the hills and made a nuisance of himself. Broebert, Tlaib, Bowman, Schultz, Mullin and several more: no Congress in memory has been polluted by so many low-lifes unfit for elected office. I don’t think any previous Congress has come close.
(Note: WP’s AI bot suggested that I tag this article “Donald Trump.”)

I do think it’s funny when 2 people can’t discuss things anymore and simply attack one another… on TV. Really doing it, eh…

Come now, at least Ernest T. was motivated to try to get some self-improvement in “The Education of Ernest T. Bass”. Howard Morris was a treasure. I’d have elected him to Congress in a heartbeat.
Howie was under-rated, overshadowed by the other Sid Caesar minions, Carl Reiner and Imogene Coca.
“Right. The police were called because she was just minding her own business and was quietly being civilized like everyone else in the restaurant.”
I’m going to attempt some contrarianism.
Most people can’t name their own Congressperson. The ones that can tend to be politically minded. The kind of people that might recognize Boeburt would also be politically minded, and even on the right, she’s controversial. Absent other evidence, I don’t think it’s facially absurd to suggest that someone might actually file a false police report to inconvenience her.
In this case, I’d argue that it might even be more likely than usual: It wasn’t a third party that called the police, her ex did. Frankly, in cases where relationships are breaking down, I wouldn’t bet money on the candor of either party at the best of times.
Her story is that he touched her first and that she pushed him away. From the Daily Beast (who broke the story):
“Jayson Boebert, apparently outraged, called the police, claiming that he was “a victim of domestic violence,” the Boebert aide said. Lauren Boebert then called the non-emergency number and told the police there was no domestic violence, and that she’d be happy to speak with an officer at the restaurant.”

The police are now investigating, talking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage. Jayson is now urging them to not file charges.
I’m struggling on how I feel about this.
It feels easy to look at this and write Boeburt off on account of her colorful history. Between previous bad acts and her usual personality, it’s believable that she’d do something as stupid and classless as what’s been described. On the other hand, “shitty ex did shitty thing” is a tale as old as time, and I’m not sure what an elected official ought to do in a case like this. I don’t know what actually happened here.
But I’m wondering if it matters. Let’s say, for the sake of argument, Boeburt’s version of the event is true as presented – Does that change anything?
Since it is currently a “He said…She Said”, I am just going to let it stew for a few days. If there are zero cell phone videos or other corroborating information, who the hell knows.
On a related note, if our elected representatives are becoming more “democratic” is it reeally a surprise that they are more human and less respectable? Though, really, do we think that such wasn’t already occurring, just not publicized.
I am much more interested in how they vote, than how they act outside of their actual representative functions.
And that was the point I considered but didn’t make: I’m not convinced that this should be news. “Separated couple has ugly he said-she said argument in restaurant” should not be international news.
Should not… But obviously will be, for the same reason high speed car chases are televised: The News has devolved into information porn, and personal drama is salacious.
Yikes. How one comports oneself in public and as a representative of the people and the United States of America is evidence of character. Civilized, responsible people with sufficient self-control do not carry on domestic spats in public. What you are shrugging off is the very model of “defining deviancy down.”
Yes. I feel sure that Harry Reid, Adam Schiff, or Jim Clyburn would never sully the dignity of their offices by such disgraceful behavior as Boebert or the despicable musings of President Trump.
Jack, I think you just insulted the residents of most trailer parks.
