I woke up this morning to find that Grace, the love of my life, my partner, lover, best friend and more, had passed away during the night. I had no warning at all; she had been having some health issues but nothing that suggested that she was in mortal peril.
We were married for 43 years.
I had a scheduled legal ethics seminar, and, of course, taught it as planned. After all, it was about professionalism.
I may write some more about this, depending on how I feel as the day goes on.

Jack ,
So heart broken to read of your wife ..
So very sad and sorry for your great loss ..
Dear Jack,
I wish I had some magic words.
My thoughts and my prayers for you and your family.
So devastating, I’m so sorry.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord
And may perpetual light shine upon her.
Deepest Sympathies,
John
My sincere condolences for your loss.
We are praying for you and your family.
Oh no, how terrible for you and Grant, Jack. Please know how much all of us mourn with you.
Who now will hit you in the head with a bick when needed?
(Please take that last bit as not joking about the situation, but as hopefully evoking some more lighthearted memories.)
My heart breaks for you. I will pray for comfort, encouragement and peace during this difficult time. Please accept my deepest sympathy for you and your son.
My sincere condolences for your loss.
We are praying for you and your family. May your memories of your years together bring you comfort and peace.
Jack, so sorry for your loss. Take the time and space you need. The shock of loss and the memories of loved ones take time to process.
Very sorry for your loss
I am so incredibly sorry, Jack.
That is absolutely horrible news.
You have my deepest condolences.

John and Nancy Cooney
Please accept my heartfelt condolences.
Wow, I am rarely posting but read this blog most days. I am SO sorry to hear about this and you have my deepest condolences.
Good Lord, I am so sorry for your loss.
Mom just lost dad in June after 38 years, roller coaster for a while now, may your “ups” (“normal” days) and downs abate as quickly as possible for a peaceful, different normal.
Prayers for your strength in a difficult time, good man.
Oh that is awful. I am so sorry Jack.
OMG. I am so sorry for your loss. You always spoke so highly of her and I always truly knew she was your best friend. This is not what I was expecting, but thank you for letting us know.
My sincere condolences to you and your son. I’m so sorry to hear this.
Oh Jesus… Jack. Sorry… Words fail.
We’re thinking of you.
What a terrible situation. Sorry for this complete devastating loss.
I cannot add anything that can possibly alleviate your grief. We’ll be praying.
Anything we can do?
Like many on here, I never met Grace but I noted a comment she made on one of the articles here.
She said something to the effect of: “The problem with stereotypes is not that they are incorrect, but that they are incomplete.”
I had never heard it put quite that way and found it insightful enough (sort of) commit to memory.
