Eventually I’ll have to stop paying attention to these, I suppose. There are so many of them, they are intensifying and getting worse, and they represent such insulting gaslighting, dishonesty and “it isn’t what it is” propaganda that these does of brain poison wouldn’t be worth condemning if there weren’t so many gullible, easily manipulated citizens lacking critical thinking skills, adequate civic education, and yes, ethics alarms.
Last week I have sensed an uptick in the desperation from the Axis of Unethical Conduct (you know: “the resistance,” Democrats and the mainstream media) as its dream of using the politicized legal system to defeat Donald Trump seems to be fading on all fronts. I found Michael Tomasky’s typical screed in the New Republic refreshingly transparent on that score:
We Have to Beat Donald Trump. Clearly, the Broken Legal System Won’t. To people like Tomasky, the legal system is broken because the Left can’t just declare Trump an enemy of the state, lock him up or at least ban him from running without bothering with little details like evidence, non-partisan, independent prosecutors, and due process.
Then there is Susan Glasser’s “I Listened to Trump’s Rambling, Unhinged, Vituperative Georgia Rally—and So Should You/The ex-President is building a whole new edifice of lies for 2024” in New York Magazine. 2024 is truly going to be the “Whataboutism” election for all time. How anyone has the brass to point to a Trump rally speech as unhinged and vituperative after Biden’s State of the Union message or this..
…is stunning to me. Bill Maher, meanwhile, who has experimented with faux criticism of Democrats lately, issued this wildly dishonest bit of gaslighting…
… citing cheap TV’s, legal pot and easily available porn to support the mirage that Joe Biden is a terrific President. [Sorry: YouTube won’t let me embed that video because Bill says some bad words. Just click on the link…] Maher confounds recognizing a really incompetent, irresponsible Presidency for what it is with thinking that life in America is terrible. This is ironic, because one of the Axis’s Big Lies used during the Trump Presidency was “Everything is Terrible” (Big Lie #5). It wasn’t, and it’s much worse today on almost every front, but now Biden’s enablers have turned into Pollyanna. What an insult. Of course life in America is generally better than anywhere else, though Bill’s pals want to make it less so through censorship, indoctrination, and state sanctioned racial discrimination, among other blights.
But those yelps in the darkness are nothing compared to Dan Froomkin’s “It’s not just our democracy at stake, it’s our freedom.” Imagine: a journalist capable of this insanely biased and misleading rant teaches journalism. He spent 12 years at the Washington Post, including editing the website and writing the White House Watch column, which is all you need to know in order to understand what the Post has become.
The article provides a graphic that nicely summarizes Froomkin’s warped perceptions that he presents in his essay:
I wonder who worked up all of that deceitful and misleading language; Bill Clinton maybe? Going down the list…
- Of course we have the standard myth that there are no stakeholders in limiting abortion except the woman who seek them, like the unborn human lives whose existence is threatened.
- It is the Left-dominated universities and public school systems “restricting ideas” and devoting their efforts not to educating and teaching critical thinking skills but to lockstep ideological indoctrination.
- “Restricting travel” is a particularly brazenly deceptive way of describing opposition to illegal immigration, don’t you think?
- Ha! “Recognizing people’s identities” is code for discrimination aimed at benefiting favored groups: women, blacks and other minorities (but not Asians!), gays and more.
- Attempting to restrict freedom of the press, speech and assembly is literally what we have seen unfold as Democrats have crept toward totalitarianism. The mainstream media has embargoed inconvenient stories and facts, and journalists have confounded advocacy with reporting. Conservative professors, activists and speakers have been shouted down and punished in universities across the country. Democrat-run states and cities prohibited church meetings while encouraging Black Lives Matter “mostly peaceful” protests during the pandemic.
- Restricting the right to vote, in woke-speak, means opposing devices like mail-in ballots, drop-boxes and no-ID voting that undermine the integrity of elections.
Read it all if your stomach is strong. My favorite part, other than quoting with favor anti-white racist and historical fantasist Nikole Hannah-Jones, is this sentence: “Truth is under siege, while misinformation is rampant.”
It sure is.

That graphic is a classic case of projection. The progressives think that the far right wants to do all those things because that’s what they’re trying to do.
They’re wrong. For the most part — I’m sure there are a few on the right who want some or all of those things, if they could figure out just what they were, that is. But not that many, I don’t think.
