“[T]his display of the Vice President’s mental capacity and self-awareness is a warning that extends beyond basketball. It’s deeply disturbing…”
—Ann Althouse, assessing an epic Kamala Harris word salad so stunning that t set off even more ethics alarms than her inane babbling usually does
That’s what I get for giving Harris the benefit of The Julie Principle. I figured, hey, the poor woman is over her head, she’s obviously a dolt, she spews jabberwocky compulsively—what’s the point in complaining about what she can’t change? And then she goes and vomits up this Authentic Frontier Gibberish:
“Do you know — OK, a bit of a history lesson — do you know that the women’s teams were not allowed to have brackets until 2022? Think about that, and… talk about progress, you know, better late than never but progress. And what that has done, because of course — you know, I had a bracket, it’s not broken completely, but I won’t talk about my bracket. But you know what? How we love — we love March Madness, even just now allowing the women to have brackets and what that does to encourage people to talk more about the women’s teams, to watch them, now they’re being covered. You know, this is the reality. People used to say, ‘Oh, women’s sports, who’s interested?’ Well if you can’t see it, you won’t be. But when you see it, you realize, Oh….”
There were multiple problems with that classic argle-bargle. Clearly, Harris had no idea what she was talking about: this post links up with this one, about public figures issuing opinions about matters they don’t understand. Women’s NCAA basketball had brackets long before 2022, because they had women’s tournaments before that. “You know, I had a bracket, it’s not broken completely, but I won’t talk about my bracket” is completely incoherent. She’s trying to make some kind of women’s progress case that doesn’t exist.
I guess Ann is late to the metaphorical party in realizing that Harris is shockingly unfit for the job she holds, which has been frighteningly apparent for three years. She is, along with Biden’s hilariously incompetent paid liar, Karine Jean-Pierre, the poster girl for DEI insanity, chosen for her color and gender only, without any thought given to whether she was even minimally qualified to be the understudy for the President.
Another important takeaway from Harris’s latest is that only conservative news sources, with a few exceptions, covered it. This is a flaming example of the Axis deliberately trying to keep the public in the dark: “Nah, there’s no mainstream media bias!” The public has a right to know that the woman who in November will be running with a feeble, aging, mentally declining leader who makes some of the ancient Russian premiers before Gorbachev look like super-marathoners can’t think or speak. It’s relevant information.
Finally, I was so impressed with Althouse’s commenters reactions that I almost re-published the whole batch, but do read them all. Once not so long ago, the retired Wisconsin law professor had an even mix of progressive and conservative comments. No longer. One has to conclude that despite the mainstream media protecting Biden and Harris, reality is still getting through.
In that regard, this post is a sequel of sorts to another one from yesterday, on Jimmy Kimmel’s claiming that he couldn’t understand how Donald Trump could be leading in the polls. Anyone not in denial has figured out that Kamala Harris is an idiot, and they understood already that having an idiot as a President is not a wise choice.
As Ann says in the comments: “I get the impression that it’s not that she’s especially unintelligent, but it’s that she lacks awareness of her deficiencies. Many people who are quite dumb understand their limitations and have adapted and function well by not trying to say or do things that are beyond their capacity.” If you’re quite dumb, one of your limitations is that you can’t responsibly hold elected office.

“Many people who are quite dumb understand their limitations and have adapted and function well by not trying to say or do things that are beyond their capacity.”
Anyone with a modicum of self-awareness, dumb or intelligent, adapts by not saying or doing things that are beyond his capacity. The problem is when someone, intelligent or not, fails to have self-awareness and thus interjects himself into issues he knows nothing about. We see that lack of humility in celebrities, the youth, scientists, and of course, politicians. One aspect that hinders rather than helps such humility is the propping up of obvious failures, whether it be the endless slew of participation awards, or the recent manifestation of Didn’t Earn It positions. Can anyone honestly argue that Harris isn’t a Didn’t Earn It recipient?
Well, she might, and of course Joy Reid will argue that the very suggestion is racist.
Just when I think our current rulers can’t possibly top their previous incoherence, I am proven resoundingly wrong.
Apparently, I have no real concept of the term, “Galactically stupid.” My mind is too small…
First time I heard it was from Tom Cruise in “A Few Good Men.”
This is have seen a huge uptick in posts describing’Trump’s dementia’ on Democratic friends’ FB pages, replete with cobbled-together videos of Trump misspeaking. It looks desperate, which it is. Multiple times in the past week alone. This is a terrifying election. Biden should choose a new VP, but I suppose he’s boxed in. She hasn’t the decency nor the courage to admit she’s in over her head and step down (if it’s possible). I had a If Biden wins, we have the very real possibility of a President not completing his term;and the alternative is Trump. God help the United States.
When I look at Kamalah Harris saying crazy stuff, I notice that she is slurring her speech and waving her arms around. I wonder if she is drunk during her speaking engagements. Is she just always drunk and people don’t notice because there is no ‘sober’ Harris for comparison?
It’s not just that she says idiotic things, it’s that she frequently sounds so condescending while she does it.
Kakkles isn’t inspiring confidence. Another sign that dems are getting more worried about the chances of SloJo and her in November: Some are floating the idea that “wise latina” Sotomayor (arguably the dumbest one on the bench, though Ketanji has shown signs of offering some competition) should resign soon, while a dem holds the presidency.

Nate Silver had a typically Nate Silverish essay out yesterday about how she just had to resign.
Well, our beloved vice president has managed to take a couple drops of fact and, like the EPA, turn it into a navigable water of the United States.
The actual fact here is that until recently the women’s tournament was not allowed by the NCAA to use the term ‘March Madness’, which the NCAA holds the rights to.
The NCAA has been running women’s tournaments since the late 70s or early 80s. I was a fan when the Texas Tech Lady Raiders won in about 1994 — the only championship still that Tech has ever won. UNC won the year before or after, and then UConn went on a run rivalling UCLA’s in the men’s tournament.
But even before the NCAA took over, there were women’s national championships — I believe mostly run by the NAIA. One of the current controversies is whether Caitlyn Clark should really be credited with breaking the all time scoring record, from back in the NAIA days — since there were no 3 point shots back then.
The women’s game has come a long way since the days when they had to fight to be allowed to play basketball at all. Were she coherent, Harris had a perfect podium to highlight the real progress they have made. Alas.
It is true that divine providence has always had a soft spot for the United States. Let’s pray she still does.
