“Stop Making Me Defend Justice Alito!”—The Stupid Sequel

I can’t believe the Axis is still running with the ridiculous attack on Justice Alito because his house had an upside-down flag flying after the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. I’m this close to resigning from the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers because so many members—about 75% of the organization is Trump-Deranged—are trying to support the claim that the episode represents “an appearance of impropriety” requiring the Justice to recuse from cases involving the election, trump, or future elections.

Ann Althouse somehow dredged up this follow up by a silly substacker named Chris Geidner who claims to be an “award-winning journalist.’ People actually pay to read what this idiot writes? Clearly, I’m doing something wrong….

His essay’s title says it all: “Exclusive: Justice Alito sold Bud Light stock amidst anti-trans boycott effort/Alito did not respond to questions about the sale, but its timing raises fair questions — particularly in light of other recent ethical questions”

No, you preening, biased cretin, it raises no “fair questions” at all, and the flag nonsense isn’t an ethical question either.

Althouse felt it necessary to go into great detail to explain why selling Bud Light stock doesn’t indicate any position regarding transsexuals, though I don’t know why she should have to bother unless a lot of her readers don’t understand the “stock market” thingy. She writes,

“Why would selling the stock reveal an anti-trans bias? If anything, it reflects a belief that the stock will go down because other people are biased. To participate in the boycott would be to decline to continue to buy Bud Light beer. There’s no evidence that Alito was a Bud Light consumer.”

To which I would add, “Duh!” And they say Republicans are stupid: do people like Geidner—he’s a journalist, so I assume he’s a Democrat—really believe that rational people sell a company’s stock because they are personally angry at the company? The purpose of investments is to make money, not to signal “likes” and “dislikes.”

Then Althouse goes on one of her typical tangents, investigating whether Alito is a beer drinker, which is also irrelevant to the issue (He may not be, but so what?)

The Left’s panic and hysteria as it faces the rejection it has so obstinately earned threatens to make the whole country too stupid to survive….

To which I reply, “You mentally decrepit idiot. There is no such thing as “Bud Light Stock.” Bud Light is a brand owned by InBev, who also happens to own no less than 18 brands, including Corona, Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, Stella Artois among many others.

Could he have sold InBev stock in response to the Dylan Mulvaney debacle? Sure, but that could’ve been simple good sense assuming the negative publicity would drive down the stock price.

Concluding Alito’s sale was some sort of political statement requires a level of bias that can only be described as limitless, as well as the bad faith implicit in such a ridiculous argument.”

Absolutely! They believe you should divest from any unapproved businesses or interests. Remember that making money is part of the evil capitalist system so wanting to make money, especially more money than underprivileged minorities, proves you are one of them.

  3. This guy’s unstated thesis is: Any suitably enlightened Supreme Court justice would BUY AB/Inbev at the onset of the sales catastrophe to show his support for transsexuals and the enlightened Harvard/Wharton genius heroine running Bud Light’s marketing department. To abandon the company when it was on such an important crusade for recognition of transsexuals and the re-education of their fratty customers, so transsexuals won’t continue to be slaughtered by the thousands every day shows the justice’s true, hateful colors. If he doesn’t resign, he should be impeached.

By the way, I love that chick’s use and popularization (coinage?) of the term “fratty.” It’s such a great term. It so aptly describes my college. In a word, it really was fratty, and may remain to this day, despite its having been made co-educational and the frats having been forced to sell their houses to the college to convert into dorms. I believe there are now even sororities!

    • Who knows, the Court’s liberal block’s Wednesday afternoon investing club may have in fact gone long on AB/InBev as soon as the story broke!
