Ethics Villains: Ireland, Norway, and Spain

This revolting development tempts me to write a dark parody of “Abraham, Martin and John” called “Ireland, Norway and Spain.” it would end with…

Anybody here not like terrorism?
Would you care to explain?
I guess it’s OK as long as it kills Jews
Say Ireland, Norway and Spain…

Spain, Norway and Ireland announced this week that they would recognize an independent Palestinian state. The coordinated announcements from the leaders of the three countries said that Palestinian independence should not have to wait for a negotiated peace deal with Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel immediately condemned the announcement as validating Hamas terrorism, which it undeniably does. Netanyahu has always held that the establishment of a Palestinian state would pose an “existential danger” to Israel, called the decision by the three nations “a prize for terrorism” that would “not stop us from reaching a victory over Hamas.” Israel Katz, Israel’s foreign minister, said that Spain, Norway and Ireland had decided “to award a gold medal to Hamas terrorists.” The announcements were made just days after the International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor requested arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, on suspicion of war crimes.

Any positive development diplomatically and internationally that accrues to the Palestinians directly or indirectly from Hamas’s terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 of last year guarantees more terrorism and more deaths. Belief that this will not affect nations other than Israel is delusional. Yet the Biden Administration’s two-faced, cynical handling of the Gazan war is only a few steps removed from the three ethics villain nations’ conduct. The U.S. response to the three nations’ reckless and unethical announcement was characteristically weak. “The president is a strong supporter of a two-state solution and has been throughout his career,” said Adrienne Watson, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council. “He believes a Palestinian state should be realized through direct negotiations between the parties, not through unilateral recognition.”

Wait, isn’t it U.S. policy not to negotiate with terrorists, since that makes terrorism attractive as a strategy?

Anybody here seen that old coot Biden?
(And can someone find his brain?)
I thought I saw him walking all over some graves
With Ireland, Norway and Spain…

  1. And didn’t these three “stay neutral” during World War Two? How the hell did that work?

During our three years living in Amsterdam, it was amazing to see the amount of pro-Palestinian support there was in The Netherlands. Not surprising, I suppose, given the significant amount of Moroccan worker immigration following the war and continuing to this day. Analogous to the Pakistani influx into post-war England. It’s breathtaking seeing how Islamized Europe has become.

      • AM, from what I can find, Norway “wanted to remain neutral” but turned down Germany’s “neutrality pact” and despite Norway’s military resistance, Germany successfully invaded Norway and occupied it throughout the war. The “neutrality” of countries such as Ireland and Spain and Mexico and Argentina has always struck me as simply agreeing to whatever Germany dictated.

        • I guess “remaining neutral” in world affairs has always struck me as siding with the bad guys. As I think is the case with pacifism.

          • Being neutral only helps the oppressor, never the oppressed. BTW, the Swiss weren’t really neutral in WW2 either, they were only too happy to be the Nazis’ bankers.

    • Norway did not “stay neutral.” Norway was assaulted by the Nazis. In fact they gave them a pretty good run for their money and even managed to sink the German heavy cruiser DKMS Blücher with coastal defense torpedoes. Unfortunately, Britain’s attempt to save Norway failed pretty badly and resulted in some painful losses for the Royal Navy including the early aircraft carrier HMS Glorious.

Spain really had very little choice but to stay out of the war since it was already economically and militarily in bad shape after the Spanish Civil War. However, given that Franco allowed the Italians and Germans to use the Spanish Civil War as a dress rehearsal for World War II, I don’t doubt that he would have thrown his support behind them if he could have.

Ireland sort of stayed neutral and sort of didn’t. There was some unofficial intelligence sharing and allowing of British planes to land in Ireland. However, Ireland always referred to World War II simply as “the emergency” and never gave any official aid to the Allies. They even signed the condolences book for the death of Hitler.

Let’s not kid ourselves, anti-Semitism has always been big in Europe. anti-Semitism has also been a big thing with the left, when it has served them. Norway has always leaned very liberal politically, in fact they were the pioneers of the idea of a national health plan. Spain traditionally hasn’t until recent years, when cowardly voters put the ultra leftist Jose Zapatero in power and poisoned the political well. Ireland of course was born in a revolution against being part of an empire where terrorist tactics got their start and identifies with those who cry oppression. I’m not impressed.
