Well, if nothing else, Stephen Colbert knows when to jump ship.
Last night, after 8 years of being almost entirely a Trump-bashing, pro-Democrat, pro-progressive, pro-Biden mouthpiece, late night comic Stephen Colbert (who also hosted a Biden fundraiser) decided to pick the low-hanging fruit and start ridiculing Joe Biden. Trump is used to this treatment, Biden is not. “They laughed at me, Mother,” the Willaim Jenning Bryan-based character Mattew Harrison Brady laments at the end of “Inherit the Wind” speaking of his previously loyal supporters right before Brady’s fatal stroke. The comics and Saturday Night Live had been one of Biden’s (and Obama’s, and even Hillary’s) most reliable lines of biased defense. If that crumbles—and it should—the President and his party’s fortunes will become even more dire.
Good.
2. Biden’s physician was obviously asked to release a letter insisting that Biden is in tip-top shape, based entirely on last February’s annual physical. Here it is. It raises more questions than it answers, primarily, “If this is true, then why won’t Biden take a cognitive function test now?” We know the answer to that; it’s obvious. Then the question is, “Are doctors ethically required to tell the truth in public statements?” Lawyers are. The answer us no. Doctors can lie if they believe doing so is in the best interests of their patients—like, say, helping them stay in their jobs. The final questions is, “What isn’t he telling us?”
3. Remember now, Biden tells the truth, and Trump lies all the time. Biden said on MSNBC yesterday, “All the data shows that the average Democrat out there who voted…for me still want me to be the nominee.” That’s completely false. A post-debate CBS/YouGov poll found that 72 % of registered voters believe that Biden has insufficient mental and cognitive health to serve as president. A New York Times/Siena poll found that 74 % of voters think Biden as too old to be President.
ADDED: Commenter Sarah correctly points out that this poll doesn’t prove Biden’s statement was “completely false” because it only references registered voters, not whatever Joe meant by the “average Democrat who voted” for him. Here’s a better poll from March that found that 61% of 2020 Biden voters now think he’s too old, and that was before his debate crash. Of course, who knows how “average” they are….
Another question: Is Biden lying, or does he really believe this, either because he’s demented or because everyone is lying to him? Naturally, MSNBC being what it is, nobody challenged Biden on his fanciful assertion.
4. Biden is counting on the support of African-American Democrats to bring him through this crisis, reports Politico. Is it really beneficial to African-Americans to have their representatives appear more immune to facts and evidence and less able to exert critical thinking skills than other Democrats? CBC Chair Rep. Steven Horsford told CNN that calls for the Biden to drop out are “more around ageism and ableism, and not what President Biden has done….This President is fit and prepared to continue to serve. He’s civil and he’s experienced.” What Biden “has done” is 100% irrelevant to the question of whether he should run for a second term. An assertion otherwise is, to be blunt, moronic. Yes, we now have a disproportionate number of black members of Congress saying moronic things. This does not help. Their argument is exactly like saying that Christoper Reeve should have continued to play Superman in films after his paralyzing equestrian accident because he was such a good Superman before the accident. This position by the CBC makes one wonder: Do they care about the nation, particularly non-white Americans, at all? Do they even care about black Americans? How is electing a non-functioning President in anyone’s interests? What kind of role models do they present to black kids by refusing to speak hard truths and be responsible? Is this supposed to be like refusing to “snitch”?
5. Maybe Van Jones, Weasel, has said the quiet part out loud. “The reality is we are running Kamala Harris for president one way or the other,” he told CNN. Oh! I see! The CBC doesn’t really think Biden is fit, they think he’s going to die or become incapacitated, and that’s the only way Harris can be “elected” President. Democracy!
6. The House Democratic Caucus could not agree today what to do about a President who won’t do the responsible thing and step down. Democratic Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen told reporters that, not only are House Democrats not on the same page, “we’re not even in the same book.” Thus many members of Congress were saying publicly that they support Biden staying on the ticket. Since this is a completely irresponsible position, why would any American trust this party or its elected officials from this point on?
7. Democrat fundraiser and organizer Dmitri Mehlhorn explained the “vote Biden, get Harris” plot (without edmitting it) by saying that a “dead Biden was better than a live Kamala.” Then he endorsed Biden’s fantasy: asked by his interviewer why Biden doesn’t believe his bad poll numbers, Mehlhorn said, “I actually think he’s right, and you’re all wrong… actually, everybody’s wrong and Joe is right. The polls are tied, they’re still within the margin of error. That’s what matters at this stage.” This is what the Democrats have become.
“Is Biden lying, or does he really believe this, either because he’s demented or because everyone is lying to him?”
I believe that the people he listens to are lying to him, but even if he knew it was false he would still lie because he is a liar. I am reminded of John 8:44, “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
It was hard getting through Colbert at first, with his Biden sycophancy, but once the jokes were going, wow, there were some good ones. I wonder if SNL has been approved to go after Ole Joe. I mean at this point, it’s not about if he can run for reelection. It’s about can he continue functioning as president. I am sure, if Biden can’t see the light, Kamala can get 8 out of 15 principle officers of the cabinet to invoke the 25th. Gosh, feels like we could be in an episode of 24.
Colbert lost me at “Joe Biden’s a great president.” What the hell is wrong with those howling jackals in his audience?
“Biden’s a Great President” is just a slogan now, like “Nixon’s the One” or “Give Peace a Chance.” It has no substance, and is kind of a reverse Big Lie, something the Axis thinks repeating over and over again will make enough people assume it’s true.
Sure, it’s a talking point. Don’t people realize how they humiliate themselves by spouting talking points? I had a former friend, now an idiot, tell me, “I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution!” which was going around as a talking point. At a minimum, it was an absurd non-sequitur.
And Trump lies???
More hilarity from George Stephanopoulos and his masters at CNN:

Years ago, I was at a party with a bunch of middle aged, educated Democrats. I brought up that Hillary Clinton (who was running against Obama at the time) had made several worrying policy statements and had promised contradictory things to different groups in the country. Their reaction made me realize what the Democratic Party was really about; raw power. They insisted that Hillary Clinton didn’t mean ANY of the things she promised those groups. They insisted that she really intended to implement a program that she had never mentioned publicly. They insisted that she ‘had’ to tell those groups what they wanted to hear to get elected because, ‘she could never get elected with what she truly wanted to do’. Those different (mainly minority) groups weren’t capable of understanding what the ‘best’ policies were, so it was up to Hillary to lie to them to make them vote for the ‘best’ policies. She was lying to them for their own good! This group included several attorneys, professors, a sheriff, etc. They actually believed this was a convincing argument and that they could sway me to vote Democratic with it. Their approach was, ‘come, be one of the elite with us and we will control everything’. It was the same approach Jeffery Epstein used to get ‘clients’.
I think Americans short attention span will end up going a long way to rehabilitating Biden before the election.
EXCEPT there is no way Biden won’t keep reminding everyone of his deteriorating mental state, and hiding isn’t going to work this time.
Jack, are you sure you’re comparing apples to apples when you call Biden’s claim “completely false?”
He said the average Democrat out there who voted for him last time still want him as the nominee. It appears that the polls you use to refute that contention reflect what registered voters in general want, regardless of whether they are Democrats and regardless of how they voted in 2020.
Good question. I’ll fix that, and use this poll instead. Joe’s contention was made up and untrue no matter how you think about it.
