Breaking: President Biden Just Announced He Will Not Run For Re-Election

Good.

Late, but it was the only ethical course.

Now what?

  1. There are rumors knocking around on outlier sites that Hillary is waiting in the wings to finally make her dream deferred 8 years come true.

          • That’s what we were saying before the first debate in 2020. Trump couldn’t get out of his own way, unfortunately.

If he can be as disciplined as he was in the June 27 debate, he’ll do really well.

And has Harris agreed to any debates yet?

              • Good point. I’d think Harris would be the one wanting to debate, since she is going to be trailing. Plus she probably thinks she needs more exposure — I bet lots of people have only a vague recollection of her since, you know, people only vaguely pay attention to the vice president.

And, of course, we’re assuming the Democrats don’t pull another bait and switch and anoint someone else.

              • What, and open himself up to accusations that he is afraid to debate a black woman because he knows she’d own him?

                • Remember all the trouble Marty McFly got into because he couldn’t stand anyone calling him “chicken”?

If Trump could be articulate for a change, the case is easy to make. “You represented Biden as your candidate and I agreed to debate him on terms you dictated. You lied that he was the candidate, and as soon as I won the debate, you got rid of him. How do I know you won’t replace Kamala when I make her look foolish too? Screw that.”

Should I trademark “Debate and switch?”

              • I don’t know… it could be useful to remind everyone how incoherent Kamela Harris can be. I’m a little tempted to search for all your posts about her and list out the examples of authentic frontier gibberish I find. I’ve seen a lot of people who apparently haven’t been paying attention who are convinced she’d win any debate, but I have doubts. She may be able to trigger Trump though, and I do love the ‘debate and switch’ phrase. The campaign ads almost write themselves with that.

                • Assuming VP Harris becomes the nominee for President, every GOP campaign ad should just be video clips of her trying to say something coherent and screwing it up. Then the voiceover at the end…”Are you sure you want this candidate representing your best interests on the national and international stage?”

You’re exactly right…the campaign ads will be a dawdle.

  2. It may or may not make a difference, depending on who’s going to be on the ticket and how good Americans’ memories are.

  3. I am less concerned about the upcoming election (as the people have a choice) than I am about his ability to fulfill the role today. To my mind, the ethical thing was to evaluate his fitness and address it, even if it meant president Harris, at the first signs of an issue and then as necessary thereafter. Because that was not done, it feels like this move was all about maximizing democrat chances in November and not what is best for the nation.

    • Biden ‘endorsed’ Harris.

Can you even fathom the number of p!$$ed off “Left_At_The_Altar” Lefties are positively fuming?

      • A good friend of mine also believes VP Harris will be jilted in favor of Hillary Clinton as well, (hopefully) raising the ire of the far Left. Whatever happens, you can be pretty sure the Democratic Party…the “Democratic” Party…DEMOCRATIC…will make sure that its constituents have little or no say in their choice of candidate. Maybe those voters will begin to realize where the true “threat to democracy” in this country really lies.

        Plugging in the popcorn popper.

My friend also directed me to the Bible’s book of Ecclesiastes, chapter 10, verse 2: “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.”

        I couldn’t agree more.

        • A good friend of mine also believes VP Harris will be jilted in favor of Hillary Clinton as well, (hopefully) raising the ire of the far Left.”

The Clintonistas have already ENDORSED Harris.

‘Course, were Harris to step in front of a speeding bullet, suffer a…um…freak weightlifting accident, or succumb to some other…er…unexplained demise, they’d have to recalibrate, am I right?

          Glass half full?

          Yeah; popcorn!

          PWS

          • The endorsement from the Clintons is all part of the act. Their voices, expressing praise of VP Harris, are just loud enough to cover up the sound of the blades being sharpened on the whetstone.

            • just loud enough to cover up the sound of the blades being sharpened on the whetstone.”

              Now THAT was funny!

  4. Yikes that picture you posted looks like he is starting a new career making toothpaste ads! Actually, he really retired a week ago, just nobody told him….now Dr Jill is reading him beddybye stories while he plays with himself.

    • That photo has to be from ten or fifteen years ago. He hasn’t been able to smile without looking like The Alien or otherwise control his facial expressions for a long time.

  5. A relative in Portland called to say that all his coworkers are horrified that Biden dropped out. They are actually shocked. They had no clue this could happen. They also didn’t think he did that badly in the debate. He works at a large hospital.

    • I’m telling you these people must live in some kind of virtual world because they’ve completely lost touch with reality.

      • Such people clearly include Joe Scarborough. He’s evidently asserted Kamala Harris is the opponent he fears.

Of all the crackpot things we’ve been told since 2016, I’m pretty sure that takes the cake.

            • Ah! The endlessly entertaining Ms. Maddow.

Actually, this is a good day for the country. We will not have four more years of “Weekend at Bernie’s” and all the horrible things the last three and a half years have wrought. But maybe Jack could cue Nelson? I think that would be in order.

  6. On Friday, Harris had a Zoom(?) meeting with 300 top Democratic donors. They were lectured to stop criticizing Biden and ‘get in line’ and support him. They were told everything is fine and that he is not dropping out. She left them waiting 20 minutes and then hung up on them before they could ask questions. No problems with credibility here.

    • She also left them in a position to believe that they are getting a fantastic deal on the next POTUS. I’d pay money for someone to abuse me like that…oh wait, no I wouldn’t!

I must admit, the Democrats next step has my husband and I popping popcorn.

  7. So this essentially creates an “open” DNC for a James-Garfield-type to surprise everyone and get the nomination. Correct? I’m not saying there’s a candidate of Garfield’s caliber on their bench.

    • No the DNC is too late. The deadline to put the candidate on the ballot in Ohio is August 7. They were going to nominate Biden by Zoom and the convention is to…well…do stuff.

  8. Clearly, someone should write a letter over Joe’s signature saying he’s no longer able to perform the duties of president and, as a result, per the 25th Amendment Kamala Harris should be made acting president until the election.

  9. At least the DNC didn’t give him the choice that other party gave Erwin Rommel. I am sure he will still get the state funeral.

  10. Glenn Beck says that in the end the Democrats will draft Michelle Obama. I doubt it, considering Michelle has said she is not interested in running for public office, however, her husband has not endorsed Harris, which it seems every other Democrat is tripping over his own feet to do. Harris doesn’t scare me, she can’t finish a sentence without tripping over her own words and there is a reason that Biden had to shuffle her off to behind the scenes. However, the power of the Obama name might be something that can’t be overcome.

  11. Another conspiracy theory.

Isn’t there anyone who thinks the manner this was done was more than a little strange? There was no press conference, no video of Joe announcing his decision not to pursue a second term, no video or even a photo of him signing that letter. It was a letter put up on social media. There’s speculation that the democrats, angered by Biden’ steadfast refusal to step aside, composed and released this letter with his knowledge.

    • An error on my part. The last sentence should have read “composed and released this letter WITHOUT his knowledge.
