Does there need to be much more evidence than that absurd tweet from yesterday? Greene preceded this with a conspiracy theory-esque map showing that it was mostly GOP-tilting regions that got hit hardest by Hurricane Helene.
Presumably no rebuttal is necessary, but I have some reactions…
- What is she talking about?
- What the hell is she talking about?
- What the bloody hell is she talking about?
- Who is “they”?
- Who voted this idiot into Congress?
- How can Republicans with IQ’s in double digits avoid being associated with a House member who constantly embarrasses her party, the Congress, and the human species with outbursts like this?
- I’m racking my brains to think of a dumber and more irresponsible assertion from a House member of either party in the history of the institution. Compared to Greene, fellow Georgia rep Hank Johnson (D-Ga), who memorably expressed concern that Guam might tip over because the U.S. had so many troops there, is Galileo.
What a great time, with House control hanging in the balance, for Greene to make her party look too brain-damanged to put its shoes on the right feet.

How does the quote go? “Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people?”
No, they [Democrats] cannot control the weather. That’s the whole point about the idiocy of “combatting climate change”. She needs to review her GOP manual of talking points. Otherwise she’s set herself up for one of those memes, where the superhero is sweating bullets while deciding which of two contraries is the less evil. The left button will be labelled, “Democrats can control the weather,” while the right button will be labelled, “The combined effort of mankind can’t impact climate change.”
The Stupid Party marches on…
Yes, but by embracing the idiocy must not the opposing party reject the notion of the ability to control the weather(the original absurdity)? After all, Trump said “no tax on tips” and Kamaliar had to immediately say ditto. This seems to me how one party can goad the other with absurdity to fight the other’s absurdity.
Following on Ryan’s comment, I wonder if MTG was trolling the climate change hysterics. That would make more sense. She has been outspoken on the causes of climate change, mostly ridiculing the climate change embracers. So, would it be too far to believe that she was sticking it in their eyes? If we humans cause climate change and we must do something to avoid existential calamity, then doesn’t it follow that we can control weather?

There is speculation – maybe it’s conspiracy, I don’t know – that the U.S. government has been attempting to modify weather phenomena – not climate, mind you, but more localized events such as storms and hurricanes – for many years, going back to the 1950s. The theories get into the whole cloud-seeding stuff and chemtrails and dry-ice and what all.
This is a thing again because supposedly there’s a bundle of Lithium in King’s Mountain, NC. Well, you can watch this five-minute video – I got this from a close friend that sends me stuff like this all the time.

Chew carefully before swallowing…
Jack,
While I am not saying that MTG is correct in saying that Helene was caused by weather modification which seems to be the implication, saying that weather modification does not exist is false.
Weather Modification Project Reports – Weather and Climate Collections – NOAA Library at National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
From Scientific American March 16 2021
In 1947, Project Cirrus—a collaboration between GE and the U.S. military—made history as scientists’ first attempt to modify a hurricane. On Oct. 13, the operation dumped nearly 200 pounds of dry ice into a cyclone that was churning off the coast of Florida.
In the 1960s and early 1970s, the federal government continued to experiment with the idea of cloud seeding hurricanes—but to little avail. Scientists eventually concluded that it wasn’t effective.
Beginning in the early 1960s, the Bureau of Reclamation funded a series of cloud seeding experiments known as Project Skywater, aimed at boosting water resources in the Western states. Reports suggest the project had mixed results.
From Livescience.com January 10, 2022
As modern technology advances and our understanding of meteorological processes grows, scientists are discovering new ways to control the weather. Instead of succumbing to nature’s schedule, projects are in place to make the skies rain, remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and prevent extreme weather events such as hurricanes and flooding.
While sometimes it may be simply convenient to manipulate the weather, it may also at times be essential. The goal of geoengineering is to protect the planet. However, some scientists believe humans shouldn’t play with environment, according to Nature. The outcome may appear positive when analyzed in theory, and with the knowledge we possess, but what about the consequences we are unaware of? As humans, we have played a significant role in climate change, and many believe that in order to control the weather for the better we should focus on naturally reversing our actions. This includes using less fossil fuels and preserving plant life.
PolitiFact | Hurricane Helene was not a product of weather modification. That’s Pants on Fire!
When you read the above article from Politifact, it contains wording similar to that in the letter from those 51 Intelligence officials. Nowhere does it say that it cannot be done they simply say that NOAA is not aware of any weather modification activities that could change the trajectory of Helene. For example: “NOAA confirms that there are no weather modification activities that could have resulted in Hurricane Helene. Hurricanes form on their own given the right conditions and that was the case with Helene,” Monica Allen, director of public affairs for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Research division, told PolitiFact. Unfortunately, the tweet referred to project Cirus in the 40’s which tracked a storm called King that was already formed when the DoD and GE dumped dry ice into it. The projected track was to the east but after the dry ice dump the storm veered west along the same path as Helene.
I am not saying X caused Y but such experiments were stopped because of concerns over unintended consequences.
The problem with MTG’s tweet is that we cannot be sure if it has any degree of veracity because the government tends to hide information that may prove to be problem for it or a useful tool. Moreover, her past incendiary comments make her an easy target to ridicule.
The better question that should be asked is why has Governor Cooper not spent any time on the issue of ensuring that residents in the affected areas of NC can vote. Asheville may lean blue but the surrounding areas are bright red. Trump only took NC by a 1.4 % margin.
What we have here is a case where one can accept climate change is occurring but we don’t have to accept that man is causing it or able to control it. The problem I have with MTG is that her tweet seems to tie climate change and weather together and that if we can control the weather we can control the climate.
BTW. The goal of the experiments was to reduce hurricane strength. Being ineffective does not necessarily mean there was no effect. The report also was concerned about unintended consequences.
But of course, she’s talking about super-villain stuff, deliberately sending storms to do harm. She is an idiot, and a particularly vile one.
I have no doubt that Helene is a natural occurrence. I cannot say that our government has no super villains. Can anyone say for absolute certainty that if one could orchestrate a natural disaster, say a hurricane or a pandemic, to effect an election result they would not attempt to do so.
I don’t know about controlling the weather, but I think the principle of Disparate Impact proves beyond a shadow of a doubt the the storm itself is a Democrat.

No, no, no,….she was talking about the gods, of course. You know, Zeus, Horus,…maybeThor, Freyr, Boreas, etc. They’re always doing stuff like this.
The chaos-invoking Loki‘d be my guess…

Here is all I will say on this matter.
Look at the Squad, what’s left of it.
Look at the anti-school choice Republicans in the Texas state legislature.

There is a solution for such as MTG, Matt Gaetz and the like. I would suggest Mike Johnson do a little quiet candidate recruitment.
In my 20 years of full-time teaching at my most recent university, I directed in our mainstage season 17 times. No named storms in our city in those years. I dramaturged once: a tropical storm. The two seasons I sat out completely: Hurricanes Rita and Ike. Obviously, had UNC Asheville offered me a guest directing gig… well, you figure it out.
I’m embarrassed that a moron like MTG could see through my elaborate subterfuge, sending that hurricane into heavily GOP areas.
Was she being sarcastic?
When you are a proven idiot who has repeatedly said idiotic things, you can’t be sarcastic by saying the same kind of stupid things you have previously said seriously. That’s incompetent sarcasm. “I was joking” is always the fallback for these kind of people (high profile morons). Hank Johnson said he was joking about Guam. Nobody believed him.
I just want to mention that cloud seeding has been a line item on the budget of my state, as well as several counties, cities and other states, as strange as it sounds. Not to say she’s not crazy, but there’s an element of truth to saying “They’re trying to control the weather”. A quick search of “cloud seeding” and it comes right up.
