Ethics Dunce: The National Park Service

Yeah, about violating “norms”….

The National Mall is supposed to contain unifying and patriotic memorials and monuments and to be a place of pride for all Americans. It is certainly not a venue for partisan grandstanding and electioneering, or, at least wasn’t designed to be. Never mind, though: as part of the Biden Administration’s effort to try to snatch victory from the maw of the most utterly deserved defeats in American Presidential election history, the National Park Service provided a permit for an ugly, satirical, attack on Donald Trump and his supporters (they are garbage, after all) on the Mall, neatly timed to coincide with the last ditch “anything goes” assault on traditional election campaign civility and fairness because, well, “saving democracy” justifies anything.

The bronze sculpture features a pile of Dairy Queen-arranged shit on the desk of ex-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, complete with nameplate. The elegant plaque reads,

“This memorial honors the brave men and women who broke into the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021 to loot, urinate and defecate throughout those hallowed halls in order to overturn an election. President Trump celebrates these heroes of January 6th as ‘unbelievable patriots’ and ‘warriors.’ This monument stands as a testament to their daring sacrifice and lasting legacy.”

This is shameful politicizing of the Mall by the National Park Service, but for this Machiavellian and hypocritical administration, “par for the course,” as my father liked to say. (And speaking of my father, I consider this scarring of the Mall a direct insult to him as one of the World War II heroes honored by the World War II Memorial.)

If Republican weren’t caught dozing as they so frequently are, they would have caught wind of this disgusting stunt (disgusting stunts tend to be undertaken by disgusting people with disgusting motives) and had the equivalent, tasteless satirical anti-Biden statue ready to go and seeking a permit. Would the National Park Service have allowed a temporary monument to, say, Joe’s dementia, showing him wearing his safety clown shoes and drooling as he was led away by the Easter Bunny? Better yet, how about a monument showing the Axis reporter saying how the BLM “demonstrations” were “mostly peaceful” as fires raged behind him? Since its satire, the monument wouldn’t be bound by the limits of fact, either: it could show protesters disemboweling bystanders and lighting sticks of dynamite. (There wasn’t really a pile of poop on Pelosi’s desk, you know.)

Not surprisingly, the Washington Post cheered the vile crap monument. “This sculpture is scheduled to be removed on Oct. 30,” wrote the Post’s art critic, outing himself as an asshole. “It should stay where it is, in perpetuity.”

Boy do these awful people deserves to lose, and lose big…

  1. this Is a Babylon bee or Saturday Night Live, right?

Jack, I can no longer agree the “Great Coarsening” is Trump’s fault. He is a catalyst not a cause.

  2. Of course, the response to any criticism of this stunt, or failure to praise it to the heavens is, “But! TRUMP!”

But, other than the January 6th riot, is anyone ever able to enumerate the terrible things that happened during the Trump administration?

    • During the Trump administration or by the Trunp administration?

If merely during, there was the attack on the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse in Portland in the summer of 2020, and the attack against the White House on May 29, 2020.

  3. This particular statue seems to be inviting a particular kind of counter-protest.

I am totally NOT endorsing such a counter-protest, but merely pointing out the screamingly obvious.

  4. If President Trump wins this election, he probably has a new “Job 1”: firing everyone at NPS responsible for the display.

    • Did you also know that he lies all the time and is responsible for the toxic divisiveness we have today?

Well, I will bask in the fact that I am not yet Garbage©, but will be in a few days.

  5. I was at the mall with my oldest kid a few weeks ago thanks to a multiple-hour long layover at Reagan. Besides agreeing with all you say, the fact that the White House is currently surrounded by the ugliest fence ever and it’s impossible to take decent pictures confirms my understanding of the current administration’s position regarding American citizens. I support flooding the area with rude pamphlets and ugly “memorials”. Accelerate the absolute lack of respect they have for the average person until everyone knows exactly how deranged they are.

  6. Wow.

As a veteran (yes, an actual veteran of what used to be the highly respected U.S. military), I am especially offended at the verbiage of this atrocity. It’s been my belief for some time that the left does not respect the military and hides their disrespect under platitudes. If I needed any confirmation of that, here it is.

“Thank you for your service”, my ass. What are you actually doing to support veterans? And, where did you serve?
