This much-praised clip from Maher’s HBO show goes into the Ethics Estoppel file.
Not that it isn’t a thorough and effective defenestration of the Democratic Party for its role in the disastrous LA fires, it is. However, its excellence only magnifies the revolting hypocrisy that is, and always is, Bill Maher.
Maher, an amoral, anarchist libertarian, has been a pimp for progressives and Democrats and their policies for his entire career, except when they directly threaten his comfort and interests. He is an a enabler and propaganda agent for the Left who periodically has these loud and much-praised outbursts of the obvious to create the illusion that he has integrity and is a truth-teller. You know he voted for Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom and Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and probably even Adam Schiff. He actually anticipated the Wuhan lockdown’s role in putting Democrats in power, saying on the HBO show that the economy crashing would be “worth it” if the result would be getting rid of Trump. Maher wouldn’t dare say that the Palisades fires would be “worth it” if it meant putting Republicans in power in California.
I’d begin changing my opinion of Bill Maher if he owned this disaster, which is a direct result of the ideology and party he supports 90% of the time. He doesn’t and won’t. Like the slightly less despicable Jon Stewart, Maher is a clown-nose-on/clown-nose-off hubris-radiating phony as well as an odoriferous hypocrite. I’d applaud that monologue if it was performed by J.D. Vance or Greg Gutfeld, or, in the alternative, if it was really funny. Maher doesn’t even warrant the “Welcome to the party, pal!” clip.
Asshole.
I’m trying to think of anyone worse than Maher. Keith Olbermann? Probably no as Keith is a lunatic and Maher is calculating. Rachel Maddow? Not as popular with a variety of demographics as is Maher and she’s not as smart as Maher, thus, less dangerous. Jimmy Kimmel? Maybe, but has a smaller megaphone. The only ones that come to mind are Adam Schiff and Jamie Raskin. And maybe Laurence O’Donnell. But none of these switch sides the way Maher does. I think Schiff and Raskin are in a separate, worse group because they are deferred to as they are government officials and are given some gravitas by ordinary people. Maher’s just a clown.
I guess my criterion is who’s the most despicable.
“I guess my criterion is who’s the most despicable“
The names you list are (IMO) all eminently deserving.
PWS
Colbert is at least as bad as Maher. Jimmy Kimmel is Satan.
And to think Mrs. OB worked with Jim Kimmel, Sr. and we had dinner with Jim Sr. and Mrs. Kimmel, Sr. who seemed like wonderful people. Mrs. Joan Kimmel had a great sense of humor and was a gracious host. I think she’s Italian American. This was when Jimmy was known for The Man Show with Adam Corolla. Hard to believe what they sired. I’m pretty sure they said Jimmy had always wanted to grow up to be Johnny Carson. Would he had succeeded and left it at that.
I will enjoy the rant only from the perspective that Bill is spot on for many of his points, but I maintain my disdain for Bill Maher, just like you.
Bill claims to be a libertarian, but is obviously very one sided. His conduct betrays his claims of being a true libertarian. Right now the threats to the libertarian position are vastly, so vastly, far more coming from the left. The left never stood for economic freedom, but at least at one time they stood for personal expression. No more. Once the right became the defenders of free speech, the only place a libertarian can ethically be is to stand with the republicans right now and push them to soften on the social stances.
I think it is vile to celebrate people suffering over class envy (as is happening). So it is to wish that to those over political differences. I don’t with them ill will, but I find sympathy a bit hard. Not over the fact that they vote left, but because they repeatedly vote in incompetence. This is a classic fuck around and find out.
