Here is an example of what is being discussed, from January 15:
A poll that I saw this morning (and that had mysteriously vanished when I looked for it just now) found that 43% of Los Angeles citizens would consider looking to the Republican Party for future leadership. That was considered significant in a city with only 18% of its residents identifying themselves as Republicans. I thought the amazing finding in the poll was that 48% still say they would only vote for more Democrats.
So, can I clean up the remains of my burned-up house on my fire ravaged lot now or eighteen months from now? Do I need a permit? Anyone? Beuhler?
She wants everyone to be “safe.” So, I guess they’re going to treat all the burned neighborhoods as Superfund sites? Is that standard procedure? The fires evidently burned super, super hot. Asbestos, lead, mercury? Will all the ash need to be bagged and disposed of as hazardous waste? Will every item need to be categorized before it’s hauled off? Are the enough approved sites anywhere near LA to handle all this stuff as hazardous material? So, I’m guessing if you’re a lot owner, the timeline for getting started removing the stuff with all the necessary permits and approved contractors will be multiple years.
She wants everyone to be “safe.”
That’s the nanny state shit that drives me up the wall. I’m the give-em-enough-rope-to-hang-themselves type; FAFO, if you will. I was that way with my kids, and I am most definitely that way when it comes to other people and their own damn business.
See, now I’m annoyed.
“FAFO, if you will.”

There are times I wonder whether Mrs. OB and I should have pushed and prodded our kids more than we did. But we were busy figuring things out ourselves and trying to make a living. May have been for the best. Maybe we model behavior for our kids and that’s the best way.
Oh hey, raising kids often requires shooting from the hip. We all do the best we can and by some miracle our children manage to survive it. I bet you and Mrs. OB did a wonderful job.

Real estate star gives grim prediction for the future of LA as he reveals why homeowners will NEVER return after fires | Daily Mail Online
The destruction, and the problems of rebuilding in such an environment, are simply incomprehensible and unprecedented. As Tom Petty might say, “There’s no easy way out.”
That’s been my assumption prior to reading any of these articles. So many are debating on whether or not to leave California. Now the path out is easy. No moving van, no selling your house. Just take the insurance money and start over somewhere new.
That’s why I don’t think there will be a political shift in California. There is just going to be a significant loss of house districts as the population craters even more.
LA will have to bring in people who’ve studied the rebuilding of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Tokyo and Dresden. I don’t think people are comprehending the magnitude of what is facing LA. It’s going to distort the insurance, construction, finance and building materials industries in ways we haven’t even begun realizing.
Also they might want to study what happened to Galveston. It was well on its way to becoming a major port in south Texas when it was devastated by a hurricane around 1900.
Galveston never really recovered — Houston and the Houston sea channel is the big port of entry for that region.
Some are predicting that many people simply will not be able to afford to rebuild because of costs and regulations.
