Democrats are apparently seeking the youth vote by talking like vulgar teenagers. Hey, it might work!
I noted that Anderson Cooper, without any serious objection from his employers, CNN, called guest Chris Sununu a “dick” on live TV. Now Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Ca.) has escalated by calling Elon Musk a “dick” during a House hearing on DOGE, aka. the Department of Government Efficiency. Then he went on CNN to smugly defend his uncivil conduct with a string of rationalizations. (Incidentally: talk about “punchable faces!”)
During the hearing, Garcia noted that the subcommittee’s chair, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) had displayed Hunter Biden’s “dick pics” at a July 2023 House Oversight Committee hearing: “I find it ironic, of course, that our chairwoman, Congresswoman Greene, is in charge of running this committee. Now, in the last Congress, Chairwoman Greene literally showed a dick pic in our oversight congressional hearing, so I thought I’d bring one as well.”
Garcia showed a photo of Musk in a tuxedo. Musk is a dick, get it? Then he launched into the current ad hominem talking points the Axis is using to denigrate Trump’s waste, fraud and abuse delegate.
“Now this, of course, we know, is President Elon Musk,” Garcia said as he showed the photo. “He’s also the world’s richest man. He was the biggest political donor in the last election. He has billions of dollars in conflicts of interest, and we know that he’s leading a power grab also abided by and encouraged by Donald Trump, and, of course, the chairwoman, Congresswoman Greene.”
Asked on CNN whether this was “effective messaging,” Garcia, who is obviously a toxic jerk as well as an Ethics Dunce, responded, “Well, he is a dick,” because he is “harming the American public in an enormous way.”
Right. Rooting out inexcusable waste and incompetence harms the public. This is “Michael Clayton” territory. The hero of that George Clooney ethics film would respond to Garcia, “See, now, that’s just not the way to go here, Bob.” The American public knows that Musk isn’t harming them by exposing the grift and graft Democrats have supported and allowed to thrive. He’s harming far-left constituencies, swamp creatures and sacred cows.
Garcia said he thinks the American public wants to see Democratic politicians like himself “bring actual weapons to this bar fight.” Like potty mouths? I’m sure Musk is trembling in his shoes.
Garcia then defaulted to the fearmongering rhetoric that worked so, so well in the last election. “This is an actual fight for democracy, for the future of this country. And it’s important to push back on the chairperson of this committee. Marjorie Taylor Greene talks about having decorum, about bipartisanship. This is the person that lies more than anybody else in the entire Congress. And so, if she is going to make a mockery of hearings, I want to make sure that us as Democrats are bringing that same level of energy.”
Garcia then addressed Keilar’s “effective messaging” issue by noting that it’s “important to get the attention of the American public and call Elon Musk out for what he is, and to make people know that Marjorie Taylor Greene is not a serious legislator, and she shouldn’t be treated as such.”
Yeah, the way to show that Greene isn’t a serious legislator is to make a crude ad hominem joke on the floor of the House. And I suppose we can look forward to Garcia loudly farting in protest to “get the attention of the American public.”
I know I predicted this way back in 2015, but I did not expect the phenomenon to get such assistance from members of Congress and the news media.
Ethics Alarms 
If they take the discussion into the territory of Team America: World Police, they’re going to find a surprisingly coherent (if not eloquent) argument in defense of dicks waiting for them. For all their obvious and glaring flaws, the dicks are still the characters who solve the problem. I can come up with counterpoints easily, but I doubt that these people can.
