Incompetent Elected Official of the Month: Rep. Rashida Tlaib, (D-Mich)

The neck-and -neck race to be the worst member of the House was narrowed down considerably last week after such worthy contestants on the GOP side as Nancy Mace, Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene were lapped by all of the Democrats who beclowned themselves during President Trump’s “Address to the Joint Session of Congress,” aka. “The State of the Union.” But “Squad” member Rashida Tlaib (above), already a strong favorite of the Las Vagas oddsmakers to win “Worst Member of Congress Alive,” seemingly swept aside her fellow Squad members, Jasmine Crockett, Eric Swalwell, Al Green, Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the motley crew they as if they were flies on her face by being the only member of the House to vote against the Subterranean Border Defense Act.

The House bill that would combat cross-border tunnels maintained by Mexican drug cartels was introduced by Arizona Republican Rep. Elijah Crane. It mandates annual reports to Congress about illicit efforts to build tunnels across the southern border; the cartels use them to smuggle humans and drugs into the United States.

The bill passed 402 to 1 this week. The only NAY vote was Tlaib. How can she—anyone? Bueller? —explain that? She likes underground tunnels? She wants fairness for the cartels? What? WHAT???

The mind boggles. Is it just a protest vote following the theory that if those racist, fascist Republicans are for anything, the only course for decent progressives is to be against it? So far, Tlaib isn’t talking, but maybe someone can convince her to print something on her little white board, like, say, “I just like tunnels!”

  1. Are you so surprised? Tlaib considers herself a “Palestinian-American.” Leaving aside the facts that there was never a nation of Palestine, or that most “Palestinians” are ethnically Egyptian or from other Arab regions far beyond Israel, the “Palestinians” are big-time fans of tunnels.

Tunnels are useful for smuggling. They’re useful for invading other countries. They’re useful for hiding hostages. They’re useful if you’d like to use civilian infrastructure such as hospitals and schools for military purposes.

I’m not the least surprised she likes them.

  2. Well of course she voted against such a measure!  Being against tunnels is RACIST!  After all, the Underground Railroad was such an important part of Black History, and it was made of tunnels, so anyone who opposes tunnels, opposes the Underground Railroad, and so, they hate Blacks.  How could any decent person vote for any subterranean security knowing that this is a sign of hatred for our Black brethren?  Tunnels have also been so crucial for our Gazan brethren to avoid all of the genocidal efforts of those evil Israeli brutes!  We must stand for tunnels everywhere!

      • I’m trying to think of my favorite tunnel joke.
I think it was told by Rodney Dangerfield on SNL when Carter was President. They did a skit based on “The Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman” in which Carter (Dan Ackroyd) was affective by a nuclear plant radiation leak and grew to giant size. In the “newscast” about the event, Jane Curtin said, “How big is the President? Here to tell you exactly how big is correspondent Rodney Dangerfield!” Rodney: “How big is he? I’ll tell you how big…he’s so big, he’s dating the Lincoln Tunnel! That’s how big!”

        • My best friend and college roommate’s father Nick Villios (a Greek!) went to Rodney’s eponymous joint on Manhattan one night in the ’60s and reported Rodney’s was the filthiest set of jokes he’d ever heard.

        • Many don’t know that Carter was trained in and worked in the nuclear field. He was required to lead a team that shut down a nuclear reactor under partial meltdown in Canada. Hence, the joke was not too far afield.

      • Personally, I would vote for black with a light in the center, maybe saying “choo choo”. But you know, a white sign with ridiculous dry erase letters in nonsensical patterns would seem to get Rep. Tlaib’s vote.

Sorry, but this situation she put herself in is so ridiculous as to require mockery.

        • Actually, she’s a Commie and a revolutionary. She’s a subversive. She votes no to gum up the works and overthrow the capitalist regime. It’s part of destroying America.
