Unethical Quote(s) of the Month: The New Republic

Head-explosion warning!

“[T]heir all-stick-no-carrot approach to autocracy has only created a suddenly vibrant resistance that’s protesting local Tesla dealerships and storming Republican town halls.”

—Jason Linkins, deputy editor at The New Republic, in The New Republic, in a column titled, “The Fight for the Post-Trump Future Has Already Begun.”

Linkins had served as a senior editor at ThinkProgress, and was a long-time staff writer at The Huffington Post, which should tell you all you need to know about his biases. I know Jason a little: his wife was an occasional cast member in productions of “The American Century Theater,” and he won some brownie points with me by being loved by such a talented, delightful woman. But as you can tell from the quote, he’s a manipulative Far Left activist, either completely deluded or  following the unethical mission of conning the public into seeking, then accepting, government domination of their lives.

By what perverted interpretation are the protests (read: domestic terrorism) at Tesla dealerships “vibrant”? They are unethical, cruel and moronic. Like the “storming” of town halls, these are pretty clearly organized efforts fueled by paid operatives, just like yesterday’s protests. Democrats aren’t even doing a good job hiding the artificial nature of these “resistance” efforts. Then there’s the predictable and dishonest framing of a President using legitimate Presidential power as “autocracy.” One seldom sees so many tells in a single sentence that all scream, “I am an Axis hack trying to deceive the public!”

That wasn’t the worst quote, in truth, just the one that struck me first as ridiculous on its face. Here are some others:

  • “In the nation’s capital this week, Senator Cory Booker grabbed and held the media’s attention in a marathon 25-hour speech that was a content-creation victory for his party and a boost to his personal political brand.” Comments: 1)The news media, even biased as it is, treated Booker’s pointless rant as an oddity.2) What “content creation”? If I didn’t object to the use of “LOL” I would use it now. 3) His personal brand is “Weak, grandstanding wannabe.”
  • “Still, a lot of the recent futurecasting has nothing to do with the goings-on in the halls of power. Rather, it’s arisen because of what’s been going down on the book-tour circuit, thanks to the timely publication of a slew of new books [by progressives]that collectively map out what’s being called “the abundance agenda”: a rather utopian vision that asks our political leaders to tear out all the red tape that holds our biggest ideas back and devote a monomaniacal focus to building stuff.” Comment: Wait, isn’t that exactly what Trump is doing?

  • “The party of good government is out of power, and the people who are in power are bent on wrecking everything—the civil service, the economy, and the rule of law.” Comment: The Biden Administration was “good government.” Does Linkins really believe that? Does anyone except Joe Biden believe that? Either he’s lying, or it’s time for the rest home.

And here is the Big Enchilada:

“Every government agency that’s torn down to the joists is going to put a huge dent in our productive capacity. Every canceled government grant is a hole torn in the fabric of the future. Every fired federal worker is a post left unattended.”

Every government agency is essential to maintain in its current form. Every government grant is a responsible use of taxpayer funds. Every federal worker’s job is indispensable.

Wow.

You can read the whole screed if you have a strong stomach or a weak mind, here.

  1. Every government agency that’s torn down to the joists is going to put a huge dent in our productive capacity

Does this poor fool really think that it’s government agencies that produce things in our society, or does he just think he can fool others into believing it?

    • Think of what we’re denying Americans of prosperity by not doubling the size of the federal government every year!

  2. I’ve concluded that to the left, any action taken by the executive branch is unacceptable and a constitutional crisis. They want a week to the point of inert executive so the bureaucracy is always and forever unencumbered by anything voted for by the unwashed taxpayers. Joe Biden was not a mistake, his is the model for the perfect president: incapable of taking any action whatsoever. Government by experts behind the back of a of a cardboard cut out.
