Now THIS Is Legitimate “Guilt By Association”…

Vance Luther Boelter, the man being sought for the murder of two Minnesota state legislators, was appointed by Democratic Governor Tim Walz to a state board in 2019. Boelter also had flyers for today’s anti-Trump “No Kings” protests in his car along with a manifesto and a list of 70 political targets.

Minnesota House Democratic leader Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot in their home, and state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife barely survived the assassin’s attack on them. Hortman had received a lot of publicity for voting to block state benefits from going to illegal aliens.

Gov. Tim (Knucklehead) Walz said these appeared to be a “targeted act of political violence.” Boy, you have to get up pretty early in the morning to slip something by Tim…

Walz, as you probably know, has been fomenting violence against ICE and the Trump Administration by calling the immigration enforcement agency “the Gustapo.”

    • Not much. All I’ve seen is it was “politically motivated” and there was a “manifesto” against Dem lawmakers. They seemed to imply it was a right wing lunatic who was responsible – this is the first I’ve heard of the name or political ideology of the gunman.

  1. I just googled his name. The first sources are FOX news then the HINDUSTAN Times. That initself shows how deep this story is being buried!

  2. From the headline, I expected some details on the association between Walz and Boelter. But, no, nothing, other than a statement that the suspect was appointed (re-appointed actually) to a state board more than five years ago by Walz. Are we to assume they knew each other intimately because of this appointment? Is there some evidence they even knew each other at all?
What I see is not guilt by association, but instead further confirmation that belief is stronger than knowledge.

    • No, we are to presume, in the absence of more information, that a hyper-partisan extremist like Walz does not appoint members of the party that he vilifies and excoriates, and that, since he has been effusive in fomenting hate and violence against those with whom his philosophy differs and has dealt in pure hate, that it is far more likely that he shares responsibility for the mad acts at issue than not. Until we see the assassin’s hit list, we will not know for sure, but the evidence so far indicates he’s the Left’s monster.

      • Why not wait for more information to make such an insidious assumption? I just read that the shooter was a conservative, Trump supporter, and against abortion rights. People who resort to pointless violence have mental health issues and we can’t blame politicians for their behavior. It’s not logical and it’s even less logical to blame Walz.

        • We absolutely can blame politicians with loud megaphones who call for violence and use inflammatory rhetoric. Crazy people do crazy things when demagogues seem to be telling them to. And should.

            • Trump’s rhetoric was inappropriate, unpresidential, irresponsible and unethical, but it wasn’t inflammatory like calling ICE the Gustapo (or calling Trump a Fascist,) for that matter. He does share blame for J-7

              • It wasn’t inflammatory

Have to disagree there. I think his rhetoric was inflammatory and helped fester the feelings we saw bubble up on Jan 6.

    • Such news reports are suspicious. I have no idea who the guy is but if he is a Trump supporter why did he specifically target the Democrats that broke with the party and voted against giving Minnesotacare benefits to illegal aliens only two days earlier? These Democrats voted in a manner that supported Trump’s agenda. It does not make sense to target them when others are more opposed to Trump’s agenda.

          • “What would that prove” is obviously a rhetorical question indicating the answer, “Nothing.” And I agree with HJ. It is neither better nor worse regardless of the shooter’s motives.

            • why hope it was a left-winger? What would that prove?

I think he’s asking you why are you hoping the shooter was a left-winger?

          • My reply was directed at The Shadow, but Jack said what I was thinking. I might add that if someone hopes a guilty party is from one side or the other of our sadly divided nation (for politics, anyway), they should be prepared to explain why they hope that. As Jonathan Turley said, “There is a sick, almost hopeful, quality to the commentary as political pundits hope that they win this round of the assassination sweepstakes with a criminal associated with the other party.”

  3. MSNBC blames Donald Trump for normalizing political violence include the murders in MN as Donald Trump pardoned the J6-ers.

My personal view is that we should hold off on the political blamestorming, as at this point the murderer is still at large, and we do not have solid facts about his motives.

Remember that when Gabby Giffords was shot, they immediately tried to blame Sarah Palin for the mass murder, while it turned out the the gunman had severe untreated mental issues. It would not surprise me if something similar is the case here.

The MSNBC blaming Trump is what we have come to expect from MSNBC, and it gives as sad illustration of the state of the legacy media. However laying the blame at Tim Walz feet doesn’t seem to be appropriate either, given what we do not know yet.

      • My point was not about Sarah Palin, but about the press and politicians who immediately cast blame on political opponents without sufficient basis, using slim pretexts (like the crosshair graphics in Palin’s campaign material). MSNBC is using J6 pardons as pretext for accusing Trump for the murders in MN. And I am not comfortable with hanging these murders around the neck of Tim Walz at this point, despite his disagreeable rhetoric. Because for all we know, the killer might have committed the murders because he has gone mentally insane, like the Unabomber. If we say that Tim Walz, Gavin Newsom et al share responsibility for all the left wings riots against ICE (including the violence), then we are on more solid ground.

      • The Star Tribune has the following to say:

The home invader who shot two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouse early Saturday — killing a top Democrat and her husband — wrote a “manifesto” containing the names of other elected officials.

The list included “prominent pro-choice individuals in Minnesota, including many Democratic lawmakers,” sources familiar with the investigation say.

        https://archive.is/20250614210930/https:/www.startribune.com/shooter-of-two-minnesota-lawmakers-families-wrote-manifesto-naming-more-officials/601373064#selection-587.0-599.148

As this situation is evolving and the shooter is still at large I think all the blamestorming is highly premature IMHO.
