Snap Open Forum!

I have an early morning legal professionalism seminar I am holding on Zoom (yuck!), so I don’t have time to put up a competent post. I’m opening up the floor for topics, debates, whatever: just be civil and brilliant.

Here’s party favor: I discovered a free GAI detector, here. I haven’t tried it, but then a bot may have written this…

  1. In the law there isa presumption of innocent.

In my field of canon law there isa presumption of validity when it comes to sacraments.

In health care there is a presumption of disease when there isa fever, or a pain or a discharge.

I would presume everything i receive though the internet from other people or groups is AI generated.

So why would I need an AI generator.

Just a BTW story that i found amusing. Last night I was cousneloing a couple who are about to get married so this conversation ensued:

Me to man: what do you do for a living?

Man to me: I am an AI engineer!

Me to woman: What do you do for a living?

Woman to me: I an in school learning to be a graphic designer.

Me to both: Doesn’t AI have the ability to produce graphic designs?

    Man, enthusiasticaly: YES of Courser

Me to woman: So he his engineering a product that will do away with your future job.

    Women, sullenly: Yes

Me: exasparentlly: OK lets talk about children?

  2. My son is in high school and he came home one day telling me his class got lectured about using ai in school. Ironically the teachers use AI to check for AI work.

    • Probably depends (or least should) on how it is used. Several years ago, I had a high school student who turned in a well-written article, a fair bit above her normal writing ability. I chose one phrase, slapped quotes around it, and commanded Google to search for it. As expected, I found the article that she had copied entirely and explained to her why that did not meet the requirements of the assignment (to research a topic and write a paper about that topic). Interestingly, her special ed teacher thought she should get full credit since she had gone to the trouble of finding the article she claimed as her own.

      • Is using AI to write a paper any different than copy/paste? I was shocked when my mother in law told me she used ChatGPT to write her resume cover letter.

  3. Perhaps schools should also teach on the applicability of AI, how to properly use AI e.g. write good AI prompts to get the results you actually want.
