Melania and Vanity Fair

One of the nauseating Axis catch-phrases is that Trump’s is not a “normal” Presidency. That is true, but it is the people saying that who have made it so. A particularly petty example, which I rank near the organized effort to stop Trump in his first term from participating in the Kennedy Center Honors program (that worked out well!) is the catty, mean girls decision to keep Melania Trump, obviously one of the most attractive and glamorous of all First Ladies (she makes Jackie Kennedy look like a Muppet) of all the women’s magazines, when covers featuring the First Lady had previously been routine. Puppet President enabler Jill Biden was judges worthy of several covers, but not Melania Trump. Nah, there’s no ladies magazine media bias!

The snotty boycott reached its apotheosis earlier this month, when sources reported that staffers at Conde Nast’s “Vanity Fair” threatened a walk-out over the possibility of a Melania Trump cover. A “mid-level editor” supposedly said that she’d “walk out the motherfucking door, and half my staff will follow me” if the magazine tried to “normalize this despot and his wife.” “Normalize.” “Despot.”

Nice. How fair and rational. Also reportedly, Melania told the magazine to get lost when it proposed a cover after snubbing her (because her husband is eeeevil) all this time. Good.

Just because the Trump-Haters have been trying to tear the nation apart doesn’t obligate the victims of their vendetta to prostate themselves to make peace.

  1. Nah, there’s no ladies magazine media bias!

    (bolds/caps/italics mine throughout)
Philadelphia Inquirer fashion writer Elizabeth Wellington’s observance of Melania Trump’s 2016 Republican Convention white outfit: “(Mrs. Trump’s EVIL WHITE dress was a) scary statement (conveying the subliminal message) that in the GOP, white is always right. (Mrs. Trump’s) all-white ensemble displayed the kind of foreignness that is accepted by her husband’s political party.”

Fast forward two (2) weeks; same writer, same newspaper:

Wellington on HRC’s choice of YOU GO GRRRL WHITE outfit for accepting the Democratic nomination:

(W)hite is a hue that’s both soft and strong […] Clinton’s white pantsuit is telling us she has arrived. THIS IS SURREAL. THIS IS A DREAM COME TRUE.”

1st Lady media bias? There ain’t no STINKIN’ 1st Lady media bias!

    • This is great, thanks!

BTW, in Asia white is commonly worn at funerals (not black). So that’s a good association to keep in the toolbox for future fashion interpretations!

Some more resources: “In China, Japan, and India, white shows purity and a return to nature.” … ” In parts of Africa and the Caribbean, white can show joy and respect for the dead.”

And (what AI has to say about white): White symbolizes purity, innocence, and cleanliness, often associated with new beginnings and clarity. It can also represent coldness or emptiness, depending on the context and culture.

So hey, the magazines were just being sensitive to “context and culture” right? Melania: white = coldness, Hillary: white = new beginnings. No bias, just “cultural sensitivity”

      • IMO, HRC and “coldness” go together like Hope -n- Crosby.

It can also represent coldness or emptiness, depending on the context and culture.”

It will represent that within four (4) months in my Nape of the Neck

        • So you’re saying that there hasn’t been any snow over the past week in Madison?

What’s wrong with the weather there? Is it global warming?

Next thing we’ll see is badgers and wolverines playing together in Sparta……

          • What’s wrong with the weather there? Is it global warming?”

            Far worse!

Cap Times Idea Fest has invited all manner of (IMO) d!pst!ck Lefties for the coming weekend; Abrams, Walz, Pritzker…Jennifer Rubin, to name a few.

  2. So it turns out that someone created a fake Vanity Fair cover in which Melanie was a crowned Queen and then Newsome created a parody of that with his own crowned head and the left thinks this is hilarious. One said Newsome is the greatest troll and another felt good making MAGAs mad.

Did anyone tell them Melania told VF to pound sand initially.

  3. Here’s a report of why Melania rejected the offer to be on the Vanity Fair cover:

Melania Trump laughed at the Vanity Fair request and rejected it immediately, a report by the New York Post quoting a fashion source familiar with the First Lady’s thinking. “She doesn’t have time to be sitting in a photo shoot. Her priorities as First Lady are far more important…

Can anyone here recall what those “priorities as First Lady” are? She seems to be almost entirely absent from the second season of Trump as POTUS.

I suspect the reason for her immediate rejection of the request is much simpler — they didn’t offer to pay her enough.

BTW, Melania is, to me, the most interesting person in the Trump inner circle. And (contrary to the musing about estrogen poisoning in a recent discussion) I would also vote for her as the most ruthless person in that inner circle.

(BTW, that is NOT a “mean girl” comment. I admire her authenticity: she knows what she wants and doesn’t want and doesn’t pander to anyone in pursuing her agenda.)

  4. One of my favorite Biden family stories: After Joe’s first wife was killed, he was walking through an airport and saw an advertisement that featured Jill when she was working as a model. Reportedly, Joe said to an aide walking next to him, pointing at the advertisement, “That’s the kind of woman I’d like to marry.” The aide then contacted the advertising agency, enquired about the model and the rest is history. We’re supposed to think this is a heartwarming story. Me, I’m pretty darned sure what Joe actually said to the aide was “That model’s the kind of woman I’d like to fuck. Call the God damned agency that put that ad together and get me a date with her.”
