Signature Significance: A Member of Congress Who Describes the Murder of a National Guard Member as “An Unfortunate Accident” Is, By Definition, a “Scumbag,” as Well as an Ethics Villain, an Incompetent Elected Official, and a Disgrace to His District, His Party, His Nation and His Species

Wow. The depth of uselessness of our members of Congress apparently knows no bounds. Who the hell is “Benny Thompson” and what cabal of morons elected someone like that to the House of Representatives? Normally I would have looked for a freestanding video of that moment, but in this case the X poster’s ad hominem attack is fair and just.

This self-indicting fool has been in Congress since 1993 representaing Mississippi’s 2nd congressional district. Wikipedia says he was an “educator” after getting degrees from two “historically black” institutions, meaning, in most cases, that the degree means even less than most college degrees. Then, after undoubtedly making hundreds of young minds dumber teaching the kind of critical thinking that leads a man to call cold-blooded murder an accident, Bennie went into politics.

In truth, his indefensible description marks Thompson as a progressive hack as well as a”scumbag”—this is how Democrats today avoid facing situations they don’t want to acknowledge: they define it out of existence. When Sec. Noem appropriately called him on his disgusting equivocation ( “You think that was an unfortunate accident? It was a terrorist attack. He shot our national guardsmen in the head!”), Thompson reacted with an offensive “oh all right, if you want to be picky” attitude and rephrased it as an “unfortunate situation.”

Shall we call the assassinations of Martin Luther king, Malcolm X, Jack and Bobby Kennedy and Medgar Evers “unfortunate accidents,” asshole? Go ahead, dickhead, call the assassination of the insurance executive by Luigi Mangione an “unfortunate accident”—you know you want to. Did anyone, even Spiro Agnew, have the nerve to call the shooting of 13 protesting Kent State students in 1970 an “unfortunate situation”?

That televised moment exposing his lack of values, compassion, decency and common sense should end Thompson’s political career, but it won’t, because Democrats are collecting scumbags, and the news media has their back. The degree to which this story was reported in the classic “When Republicans do something wrong, it’s their conduct that is the story, but when Democrats do something wrong, it’s the Republican reaction that the media makes the story” manner is almost comical. In a fair and competent journalistic culture, the story reported when a member of Congress says something that heinous would be, “Democratic Congressmen refers to deadly attack on National Guard as an “unfortunate accident.” Here’s Politico: “Trump admin goes after Thompson for calling National Guard shooting an ‘unfortunate accident’Nah, there’s no mainstream media bias! The story goes on to call Thompson’s denial of reality a “misstatement,” giving him cover. That’s like Democrats calling Joe Biden’s brain-drain during his debate with Trump “just a bad night.” But that’s what these people do. And there is no accountability.

  1. I would agree with Steve except that it wont happen because they will all circle the wagons around him.

I would suggest that George Floyd was more of an accident than this. What should happen is that conservative media should hound every Democrat and ask them if they will condemn Bennie Thompson for his remarks about the shooting of the National Guard soldiers.

I think the moron label may well be appropriate for his those in the 2nd district now. If he is reelected we can add racist to the word moron to describe his constituents.

  2. From the article:

“The misstatement stifled the momentum in what had been fiery questioning from Thompson to the three officials about the administration’s view of the threats the United States is facing.”

Ahhhh, he was doing so well until he said something really stupid.

  3. Nancy Pelosi appointed Bennie to chair the Star Chamber, er, the January 6th select committee. That’s where we’ve heard his name previously. His district covers almost half of Mississippi and is majority black. He will suffer no consequences. He only speaks truth to power.*

    __________

*When did that obnoxious phrase fall out of favor?
