The sock drawer isn’t small enough not to keep me from watching the annual Golden Globes broadcast, the parade of awards from people I don’t know or respect to performers I’ve barely heard of for shows I haven’t seen. Nonetheless, Hollywood (and others) managed to disgrace itself once again, reminding us that the artists who make our mass entertainment have the critical thinking skills of paper clips.

Once again the “Hollywood progs” (the name used by critics too genteel to call them “Hollywood assholes”) promoted the misguided latest woke cause. Last year it was the anti-Israel position insisting that nation should stop fighting Hamas and let the terrorists re-stock for the next massacre. This year, stars were wearing the fatuous anti-ICE pin, “Be Good.” Yeah, let’s all demand open borders, interfere with law enforcement, use our cars to block I.C.E operations, resist arrest, nearly run down and officer and get shot! Oh-oh, Sidney Wang is demanding a word…

Yeah, we know, Inspector.

We also know now that the late neighborhood open-borders fan was not good, as she was a contributor to Black Lives Matter, signature significance for someone who supports anti-white racism, lies (Michael Brown was murdered, you know!), riots, anti-law enforcement violence, dishonest news and scammers.

But never mind! The ACLU, among other principle-free organizations including communist groups, funded the creation and distribution of that tiny salute to idiocy. Talk about minds: the ACLU has genuinely lost theirs, along with any claim to respectability and credibility. The organization used to stand for free speech. Now it is deliberately using its reputation and resources to mislead the public into thinking Good was engaging in it by blocking law enforcement and defying the law.

Interestingly, the New York Times seemed to feel that the Golden Globe narcissism show wasn’t political enough, writing [it’s a gift link, but a crummy one]…

“It’s a marker of how apolitical the Globes were that the most direct commentary onstage came from a presenter, Judd Apatow, surveying the changes of the last decade: “I believe we’re a dictatorship now,” he said. (The audience laughed — in discomfort? Recognition?) The host Nikki Glaser also got in a few digs in her opening monologue. “The Golden Globe for best editing goes to the Justice Department,” she said, in a reference to the heavily redacted Epstein files.”

Recognition. Nice. Of course, a real dictator would close the New York Times and send the worst of the Golden Globe policy critics to a glass box in Death Valley. The best editing award should have gone to “Sixty Minutes,” for making Kamala Harris sound less like the idiot she is. But that wouldn’t have been funny to this audience.

The actors who did decide to enlighten us with their assumed political acumen simultaneously reinforced the refrain, “Shut up and act!” and made gullible members of the TV audience more civically ignorant than they already are. I love Jean Smart as an actress, but the Cognitive Dissonance Scale starts calling to me when excellent performers like her start exposing their infantile political reasoning.

“I’m here speaking as a citizen and a mom, and I hope people understand that,” Smart said during a pre-show, red carpet anti-I.C.E. rant worthy of any Middle School student.“I feel like we’re kind of at a turning point in this country,” she said in the red carpet interview. “I hope people can keep their heads because that’s actually, really the hardest thing, I think, is to keep our heads. It’s going to take a lot of courage and concerns, but I think that’s important.”

Right, that’s what the people protesting law enforcement and advocating killing I.C.E. officers are doing, “keeping their heads.” Smart added later, “I don’t think my opinion matters more than anybody’s. That’s not at all what I’m doing. I feel like if you feel strongly about something, and you have the chance to share your feelings or encourage people or cheer somebody on, you should do it.”

Wrong. Sharing feelings is useless and damaging without a coherent, fact-based explanation of why you have those feelings. Neither Smart nor any of the other show-biz activists dealt in substance. The entire spectacle was soaked with the same obnoxious “we all know what the truth is” framing I wrote about experiencing last year at my law school reunion. That creates the false framing device that the only valid position is in the Left’s echo chamber.

Later, Smart added during her acceptance speech for an award she won for doing her job, “There’s just a lot that could be said tonight. I said my rant on the red carpet, so I won’t do it here. But, thank you. Let’s all do the right thing. I think everybody in their hearts knows what the right thing to do is, so let’s do the right thing.”

Psst! Jean! The right thing is to let I.C.E. do its job and for dummies like you to stop using your outsized megaphone to mislead people who get their news analysis from Facebook.

Speaking of ignorant, Dunning-Kruger inflicted comic Wand Sykes also shot off her mouth, sadly, not literally. “Of course this is for the mother who was murdered by an ICE agent,” the actress said regarding the ACLU’s pin. “I know people are out marching and all today, and we need to speak up,” Sykes continued. “We need to be out there and shut this rogue government down because it’s just awful what they’re doing to people.” 

Now there’s a substantive, fact-based commentary! The Left is in the Big Lie zone with its constant repetition of Mayor Frey’s despicable claim that the officer who shot Good was not acting in self-defense.

Luckily The Golden Globes typically get smaller audiences than “Two and a Half Men” re-runs, but that still doesn’t excuse them.
