In other words, Caitlin Jenner will not be in the museum for winning a gold medal as Bruce. (Should she be?) “Republicans on the Committee on House Administration couldn’t resist poisoning the bill with an anti-trans rider,” Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA) complained in a news release. “Let me be clear: the Museum should highlight the experiences of all women, including transgender.” Oh. Wait: does that mean Democrats want a biological woman who now “identifies” as male to be eligible for mention in the museum, and that a biological male who now says she’s female gets an exhibit too?
There are rather obvious problems with such an expansive definition of “woman.” What would stop Donald Trump from declaring one day that he is a woman, and thus has become the first woman President (sort of like when Toni Morrison called Bill the first black President) deserving a major exhibit? Shouldn’t a biological man have to have had, you know, something done to him before he could qualify as a woman other than just deciding he always was one? What would be the status of an accomplished “non-binary” individual born female?
I have reluctantly decided that the Women’s History Museum cannot avoid being a casualty of The Great Stupid. Progressives have no one to blame but themselves.
Post Script: Legal Insurrection, which is usually above such things, headlined a post about the controversy, Democrats Block ‘Women’s History Museum’ Bill Because It Excludes Men. I thought Democrats were genuinely objecting to a women-only museum because it discriminated against men, which made no sense at all. This sort of thing is the kind of false framing the Axis media excels at. I don’t appreciate deceit regardless of who is responsible.
