1. As I noted during Trump’s first term, the Democrats’ Presidential Removal Plan E, ”Trump is mentally ill so this should trigger the 25th Amendment,” surfaced repeatedly in his first term, “supported” by now fired Yale psychologist Bandy Lee, who violated her profession’s ethics code by pronouncing a diagnosis of a “patient” she had never met. I described this particularly unethical tactic as based on “the old Soviet theory that anyone who disagrees with the authority, in this case, progressives, must be crazy.”
As soon as Trump was nominated again in 2024, the Trump Deranged began claiming that he was just as demented as Biden, whom they had insisted was “sharp as a tack” in defiance of almost daily evidence to the contrary. How can Capehart say “we” (as in “other Axis tools”) are not having the discussion that they have never stopped having for a decade? Easy answer: because Jonathan is a shameless hack, that’s how.
2. A “comment like that” coming from Biden would have convinced me that he had more remaining brain cells than I thought. The kinds of comments that demonstrated to anyone with a clear mind and receptiveness to reality that poor Joe was mentally unfit for the Presidency were his babbling, “Look, I wouldn’t have picked Vice-President Trump to be vice-president if I didn’t think she was qualified to be President,” or “We finally beat Medicare.” Arguably bad taste jokes are not evidence of cognitive disability.
3. Columnist Matt Margolis accurately explains how foolish Capehart’s argument is:
“…Joe Biden spent three and a half years in the White House with the mainstream media doing everything possible to cover for his cognitive decline. It wasn’t until his disastrous debate that they finally admitted he had problems.
In fact, MSNOW (then MSNBC) spent years assuring viewers that Joe Biden was sharper than ever. In March 2024, Joe Scarborough infamously delivered one of the most embarrassing media monologues in cable news history. “I’ve said it for years now: he’s cogent,” Scarborough insisted. Then he decided that wasn’t enough. “But I undersold him when I said he was cogent. He’s far beyond cogent. In fact, I think he’s better than he’s ever been intellectually, analytically.”
Scarborough wasn’t done. “Start your tape right now, because I’m about to tell you the truth,” he ranted. “And eff you if you can’t handle the truth. This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever. Not a close second. And I’ve known him for years. The Brzezinskis have known him for 50 years. If it weren’t the truth, I wouldn’t say it.”
Of course, it was a total lie. And it wasn’t just MSNBC either. The entire left-wing media apparatus spent years running interference for Biden, whose decline was visible to anyone paying attention. They mocked concerns, dismissed critics, and kept the blinders firmly in place. Now, the moment Trump cracks a historically grounded joke in a diplomatic setting Capehart wants to dust off the 25th Amendment?
Democrats and the liberal media have been floating the idea of invoking the 25th Amendment against Trump since his first term, and it’s as laughable today as it was eight years ago. They’re not serious people; they just hate President Trump.”
Bingo.
Capehart’s statement, in contrast, is smoking gun proof that he is unfit to be a pundit, to have a national broadcast platform, or to be employed by a news agency. The news media could immediately improve its standing with the public, perceived trustworthiness and actual influence if it would only start showing accountability and start firing the worst of their worst and then keep doing so until even “the worst” were still marginally competent and honest.
Some lines have been drawn at least, like CNN finally firing Don Lemon, though many years too late. Last week he wrote—he really did; I’m an ethicist, I wouldn’t make up something like this!—“We are saying that Iran shoots protesters. Well, so do we … that makes us no better than them — if we are acting and doing the very same things that they’re doing, then what sort of moral authority do we have?”
Capehart might not be quite that stupid and incompetent, but being better than Don Lemon is still not good enough.
I no longer believe a word of what comes out of the mouth of any of the leftist media at face value and I have good reason for my skepticism…
I’m to the point that when I see someone parroting leftist media propaganda narratives, my immediate thoughts are that the person is a moron. I know that’s biased, I recognize that it’s biased, but when all the pattern based evidence tells you that if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.
I’m now willing to openly state in one way or another that…
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
What happens after time three? Four? Eight?
Why are boomers like most of the EA commenters and host still following the irrelevant mains stream media? The younger generation finds news and commentary elsewhere, via Internet and social media.
What else is the mains stream media doing nowadays, besides gloomy and depressing reporting about Trump’s impending failure in Iran? Well, they are ignoring the murder of a Loyola University Chicago freshman, Sheridan Gorman, by an illegal immigrant. And when they mention the murder, they hide that the murderer is here illegally.
The press is not reporting the news faithfully; they are only interested in forwarding a narrative.

Well, I have a friend who only gets news from social media, mostly X, and he’s been telling me that Netenyahu is secretly dead for two weeks So there’s that.
And apparently I have been “blocked” by the National review, which is welcome to Bite Me…
I have a paid subscription to National Review since the start of the Iran war, as NR only allows three free articles in a month.
About your friend, people tend to search out information channels that confirm their own biases. Your friend is entirely responsible for the fact that he is so poorly informed that he thinks that Netanyahu has been dead for weeks while he appears at Fox News almost every night.
AI. He also believes the Titanic wasn’t really sunk, and that it was its sister ship deliberately scuttled by J.P. Morgan.
But the question Mr Barleyfield asks (his last name translated into English!) is still a good one.
I just spent a while watching the MSNoW (whatever it is called) and it is true it is all pessimism and doubts. But Fox is like infomercials for American weapons manufacturers.
It is all ridiculous. None of it is really journalism. I find I am whiplashed between one dismal perspective and the other that seems to be almost childishly optimistic.
BTW do you have a personal prediction based on intuition about where this is going? So far I do not believe you have offered one.
My prediction is: Almost no matter what happens the result will not be good for Donald Trump’s presidency; nor for the mid-terms; nor for the economy.
Pointless to predict; too many unknown variables and unintentional outcomes. Based on what we knew and know, it was still the right thing to do, and necessary.
That’s ridiculous! For one thing, Biden would have said it to the German prime minister.
Bravo.
