Unless it is a false flag effort by frightened Democrats or sneaky conservatives, this is a metaphorical smoking gun of epic proportions. Yet its content should not surprise anyone who has any historical perspective or who has been paying attention for the last, oh, two decades or so.
As for me, my inner Fredo is again saying, “I’m smart! I’m not dumb like everyone says!” I’d like to find the first time Ethics Alarms started warning that the American Left and the 21st Century Democratic Party was sliding into totalitarian goals and tactics, but I know it was quite a while ago. I also know that EA’s objective analysis of this terrible political development, which creates a genuine threat to democracy unlike the fake threats to democracy heralded by Axis propagandists, was perceived as a partisan tactic itself and attacked as such, here and elsewhere. That was and is wrong for I was and am right, and it didn’t take any Fox News script to lead me to the truth. I was paying attention. Democrats were using the playbook of Communist regimes while accusing their adversaries of doing what they were doing themselves. And it should have been obvious to everyone. I’m not that smart. Heck, Donald Trump figured it out.
Now, suddenly, after sowing these metaphorical dragons’ teeth and getting the predictable bumper crop, some progressives and Democrats are waking up to what their cynical pandering to the anti-American, radical and ignorant extremes on the Left has wrought. Bill Maher, Van Jones, James Carville, Joe Scarborough, Senator Fetterman and others are suddenly saying, “Hey, hold on a bit, these Democratic Socialists are crazy, and they are going to get us slaughtered in elections.” To which I respond with two Hollywood clips from the EA archive:
I have no sympathy for these fools, and the group includes a lot of my Trump Deranged friends and relatives. They allowed Bernie Sanders, the epitome of a communist “useful idiot,” to become the face of the Democratic party along with “the Squad” and now the mayor of New York City. They relied on the our broken education system’s indoctrination process to ensure the ignorance of much of the public, especially Gen Z and, to be blunt, stupid people. Now all those ignorant voters are threatening to expose just how irresponsible and unhinged the Left has become, making even the hated Republicans and their boorish POTUS look safe by comparison.
You really have to read the rhetoric on the website, but I’ll give you just an appetizer to get you started, as readers are told what like under a socialist (<cough!> communist <cough!>) regime will be like:
“You have no debt. You don’t need health insurance. You don’t pay a mortgage or have a landlord, because comfortable housing is a human right. Your retirement is publicly funded. Food, education, energy, medicine, and transportation aren’t for-profit businesses; they are common goods and utilities…OK, enough about bills. What do you do on your day off?…what if you were free to spend your time how you like without worrying about cost or dreading going back to work? What if you didn’t have to think about paying rent or loans at the end of the month, or saving for college, or affording groceries?”

In my opinion; that statement is basically saying that Communists are not crazy, thus giving their absurd delusional nonsense some kind of validity and I’m simply not willing to do that.

That’s how I look at it.
As I pointed out, there was a state in this country that had the following benefits:
free housing
free clothing
all the food you needed was free
a job for life
all the healthcare you needed was free
all the education you needed was free
That state was slavery. The Democratic Party has been the party of slavery for over 150 years.
Communism is state slavery. In Communism, the state ‘seizes the means of production’. Well, the #1 means of production is people. Leftist elites love Communism because they think that they will be enslaving us and they will be in charge of us. I had teachers who seemed to think that when the Communist revolution hit, the people in charge were going to say “Well, that Mrs. Smith down there at Topeka Middle School has been a fantastic revolutionary for decades, let’s make her in charge of Topeka!”.

With all due respect, and I mean that sincerely, you’re arguing “like a” progressive.
I wear a pair of boots, a pair of pants, and a shirt; similarly, Hitler wore a pair of boots, a pair of pants, and a shirt, but those similarities don’t make me a Nazi. What you’re completely ignoring are the differences which make the comparison absolutely absurd and appearing to argue “like a” progressive.
Under CSA slavery, the master owns all the labor of the slave and that is what defines them as a slave. Under Communism, the state owns all the labor of the citizen, just as the master owns all the labor of the slave. It is the same definition of the same state of being. Citizens of the USSR were state slaves. BTW, the CSA defines the slave this way because it explicitly states that the master does not own the soul of the slave, just the labor of the slave. When you have two things defined the same way, you can at least assume that they are the same thing.
A fascist (or corpratist) isn’t defined by wearing boots or gloves. A fascist is defined by wanting an autocratic government that pressures businesses to enforce its will on the citizenry. If I call the Democratic party fascistic, it is because of its use of government agencies to dictate the censoring of people by social media platforms and similar actions.
What is absurb about MIchael’s statement? In fact, Michael is spot on: Communism subordinates the individual to the collective, where the collective decides what each does and earns. The collective – the government owns the means of production; the individual does not.
The communist party or government also controls all of the branches of government: the legislative branch passes laws dictated by the executive and the judicial branch simply determines if the executive branch has that sort of supreme executive power. The individual simply does the will of the government. How is that not slavery?
If you look at the DSA platform, that is exactly what they want but with the legislature dictating to the executive and judicial branches.

Democrats need to access their uncrazy side if they want to get votes.
They claim they’re alarmed at the socialists, but their own propaganda organs are still running interference for them.
Just today, the news broke that Daniel Ortega, the socialist dictator of Nicaragua, had permanently cancelled all elections going forward. The news stories covering the event, for the most part, pulled no punches in describing his regime as dictatorial, authoritarian, even tyrannical. They dutifully reported the suppression of political dissent, the political killings, the torture.
But they left out the leftism.
In article after article, you couldn’t find any mention of the political Left, or of socialism. They would mention the Sandinista movement, but not what they were or what their political philosophy was. This was how the Associated Press handled the story, along with Reuters, CNN, and The Guardian. Surprisingly, the NYT was one of the new who could bring themselves to mention Ortega’s was a leftist movement.
Well, at least they are not trying the Abagail Spanberger maneuver! When people tell you who they are, believe them, and when it comes to Dems, assume they are lying.
This DSA manifesto, platform, or whatever it is would’ve been right at home on the hippie communes of the 1960’s and 1970’s.
What always baffles me about these Utopian political movements is that they never address what happens if things go wrong. For example:

No Utopian vision can survive being surrounded by enemies, ideological, practical, or simply covetous. If most of the world embraces some form of capitalism and militarism, the society the DSA envisions would quickly become absorbed by more powerful opponents who have not decided to scrap their military or see the opportunity to make a lot of money for their people off the USA. And even of some shambling remnant of a military remains, are warfighters likely to hang around long enough to be killed by more powerful opponents?
In the end, this stuff reads like something out of a high-school political science project, and is just about as likely to succeed.
Glenn, you’re assuming they don’t lie. They lie. They won’t defund the military. They’ll use it to suppress the populous. They’ll use it to foment unrest in other countries. If need be, they’ll declare martial law. They want to create chaos so they can take power. Once their in power, they’ll use whatever means are necessary to control the populus. Just look to what happened in Russia. Those guys promised a workers’ paradise and turned it into a gulag. Promising free stuff and letting everyone out of jail are just ways to get votes and obtain power via elections rather than violent revolution. What they will deliver is a different story. Do they give a rat’s ass about having communism succeed? Hell no, all they want is tons of money in their Swiss bank accounts and hot and cold running twenty-year olds.
Right. They won’t defund the police either. You’ll see the police begin to move resources toward “hate speech” or “disinformation” – what we call thoughtcrime – and ignore crimes by minorities until they have suppressed out-of-favor populations.
Then, they will use the police to enforce fealty among all communities. The minorities who thought they were being elevated will find out that they were used to replace equal opportunity with equal poverty.
Eventually, the people who remember eating meat regularly, turning on their air conditioning when they wished and and having access to different opinions will either be frightened into silence or die out.
Secondary education may be free but unfavored populations will be kept out of it, as well as out of politics, education or the professions. Lackluster healthcare will be free. Innovation will die out because no one has the incentive to work harder since there is no more meritocracy.
The elites will still have the best of everything because that’s what happens in every totalitarian regime.

Steve, I think “if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck” is apt here. The DSA has published a standard issue Commie playbook as their platform. Haven’t we seen this movie before? Can’t we rely on historical precedents?

I looked up the https://www.dsausa.org/ website and it was created on 1996-02-16.
A 30 year old website is not likely to be a false flag.
Logically speaking: who would pay out all the annual money required to maintain the domain and maintain the site itself for 30 years so they could have a false flag reference. Plus I don’t see anyone on the left claiming it’s a false flag; I’m sure they’d be all over it if it was.
This isn’t even really worship of the state, a lot of this is worship of violence. These are the kind of people who say the greatest day will be when the last king is hung by the guts of the last priest. But that’s a lie too, because when the kings and the priests are gone, they’re just going to find someone else to come after, and you hope and wish that you aren’t that someone else.

Of course some people will have to work so that there can be things like food. The authorities will decide who that is and, er, compel them to work.
Will these people working to produce food get to keep it or sell it for profit? Of course not, comrade, the authorities will confiscate what they produce, for the greater good.
But never think those workers get nothing for their labor. No, in truth, the authorities will provide for their needs. Not what the workers consider their needs, but rather what the authorities decide they need.
So to recap, some people will be forced to work. The product of their work will be taken from them and, in return, their needs will be provided for by the same authorities that are forcing them to work.
We had this system in this country before, except we didn’t call it “Democratic Socialism”. We called it slavery.
This is not hyperbole or some wild hypothetical. Right now, in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, all men are required to perform compulsory military service. The DPRK’s military is huge for a country its size and poverty. But it isn’t really a fighting force – most of its members do agricultural labor.
I wonder how fast the politicians, liberal white women and others who aspire to these lofty goals are willing to accept their income being capped at per capita GDP which is only about 67K annually. That is how you achieve equitable distribution of income. Why should Congressmen and women take more out of the community storehouse than the poor health care worker or barista. Why are they more important? Why should doctors or lawyers make so much when so many do not?
The interesting thing is that when you add up all the welfare entitlements to the poor such as housing assistance, food stamps, Medicaid, energy subsidies, child care and higher ed grant funds the amount almost equals current per capita GDP.
If you are going to do communism right there can be no pigs on the farm. So lets ask Bernie and the other disciples of the DSC if their will be any pigs in their socialist paradise.
We’ve been told our whole lives that the most dangerous demographic are unemployed young men. That’s not entirely untrue. It’s only untrue because we don’t have that demographic readily manifest in our country.
The most dangerous thing that *has* happened is an entire generation was taught that they were special, that they deserved special things because they were special, that they needed to go to college to ensure their specialness + a piece of paper would make them economically special and therefore wildly lucrative, and that this would happen for them if they did all these things. And that entire generation is finding itself, relative to other generations, in a downwardly mobile circumstance swimming in wild personal debt seeing the promises they were given evaporate faster than a vapor of vapors, in ways that are partially their fault and partially the fault of another generation and partially the fault of global-historic circumstances beyond any control.
*That demographic* is the most dangerous one in our society right now.
