Explain to me why this story isn’t national news, while a principal pulling a valedictorian off the graduation program when he insisted on making graduation a vehicle for his coming out as gay—to his parents—is. Never mind. We both know know. Journalists see discrimination and homophobia even where it isn’t, but fascism increasingly bothers them less and less.
That’s because, I fear, they are Democrats. I will return to this surprising and alarming theme in a moment.
At Northwest Mississippi Community College, where the graduation ceremony for Senatobia High was held, the superintendent asked the crowd not to scream or cheer and to hold their applause until the end. As always happens—always, always, always––a few relatives couldn’t contain themselves. Four guests shouted various felicities and exhortation to their graduates out of turn
They are strict in Mississippi: all four were kicked out of the event.
But that’s not all. They are really strict in Mississippi: Senatobia Municipal School District Superintendent Jay Foster filed ‘disturbing the peace’ charges against the people who yelled at graduation, and police issued warrants for their arrests with a possible $500 bond.
Well, my head’s been threatening to explode for quite a while now*, and this finally did it, big time. Congratulations Jay Foster, you foolish, unethical, unkind, tin-god fascist. You did it.
Foster refused to be interviewed on camera, but told the media that he’s determined to have order at graduation ceremonies. I recommend snipers, Jay. Or maybe duct tape. This fascist idiot is responsible for educating children! Does he realize he’s educating them to be…Democratic Senators?
In the pages of the Washington Post, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) penned an op-ed claiming that opponents of climate change should be prosecuted. This is increasingly the remedy for dissent and non-conforming opinions that Democrats and progressives are advocating these days, and the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the First Amendment—huh? What are those things? What matters is that nobody stand in the way, or dare to stand in the way, of what Democrats have determined is right. Oppose gay marriage? That’s hate speech, son—that’s not protected. Oppose the apocalyptic edicts of those scientists who cannot seem to make their “consensus” match up with a climate model that actually works? Why, that’s racketeering! Go to jail, go directly to jail, do not pass go.
At least, that’s what Senator Whitehouse wants. His article, which is a disgrace for any legislator and a demonstration of ignorance for any lawyer, argues that the mere publication of arguments against the global warming non-consensus parallels the situation that ignited the prosecution of the tobacco executives. That involved, in the judge’s words, evidence that the tobacco industry “suppressed research, destroyed documents, manipulated the use of nicotine so as to increase and perpetuate addiction, [and] distorted the truth about low-tar and light cigarettes so as to discourage smokers from quitting.” Democrats are more and more frequently resorting to calls for government, law enforcement and police power suppression of speech that challenge their sacred policy objectives, and this is an especially noxious example. Progressive pundits like Gawker’s Adam Weinstein have advocated jailing so-called “climate-change deniers”—see, the association with Holocaust denial is a cognitive dissonance trick: since those denier are Nazi apologists, these “deniers” must be evil too. Also arguing for locking up dissenters on this issue is Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who sees no irony in the fact that he is an anti-vaccination nut, opposing science that is far more certain and settled that climate change.
Whitehouse advocates the indicting of energy company executives for coordinating advocacy activities “including political lobbying [LEGAL], contributions to political candidates [LEGAL], and a large number of communication and media efforts that aim at undermining climate science.[LEGAL].” His argument is progressive fascism on the march, and exactly the kind of undemocratic tactic educators like Herr Foster are modelling for their impressionable charges. Defy authority when it orders you to shut up, and expect the Gustapo at your door. Correctly concludes Professor Glenn Reynolds regarding Whitehouse’s screed:
“First, this man should be voted out of office as soon as human possible. His ignorance is dangerous. Second, the state bar should require him to undergo at least 100 hours of mandatory continuing legal education on the subject of constitutional law, with emphasis on the First Amendment. Newsflash: joining together to discuss common interests and even–gasp!–funding research, white papers and lobbying efforts to advance one’s perspectives on an issue isn’t illegal; its free speech.”
And one more point, that apparently nobody sees but me: Whitehouse is saying that people should be jailed for disagreeing with “settled science” that he almost certainly couldn’t recite, explain or discuss at level that would satisfy a high school science teacher, but he is so certain that the arguments against it are wrong, he want to lock up those who raise them. See, I know the Holocaust took place. I can explain why. I have seen the original films taken by Ike’s liberating forces. I have read a lot of the testimony. I have spent hours in the Holocaust Museum, and heard the testimony of survivors. My father helped liberate a death camp. He was there. Nobody, not even Marty McFly, is there, when the climate Armageddon will take place, as predicted by scientists who can’t explain the holes in their own data. It’s not settled like the fact of Holocaust is settled, and we don’t even jail Holocaust deniers. Free Speech. What a bitch free speech is when you want to impose your will on others, eh, Senator?
And what about Jay Foster, the Mississippi Mussolini who is teaching his students that speaking against authority, even if the speech his just a “Woo woo!” risks jail time? For that matter, what about the idiot police chief who authorized the warrants?
Fire them both. Maybe they can find jobs with Senator Whitehouse’s secret police.
