The Smoking Gun: This is How The Election Was “Rigged,” And This Is Why The News Media Will Not Be Trusted Again, Unless It’s Trusted By Totalitarian-Minded Progressives To Support Single Party Power.

Harsh? Not at all.

I wrote about this here, in general terms, but the almost complete media embargo and denial of the Hunter Biden laptop story in the days approaching the election was the latest and, arguably, the final and most effective embodiment of the degree to which the deck was unethically stacked against President Trump.

Yesterday, the proverbial other shoe— a big, noisy, smelly one with fecal matter all over the sole and stuck in the ridges so you have to dig it out while trying not to gag—dropped, as anyone honest, conscious and not in denial knew it would.

CNN reported,

After pausing in the months before the election, federal authorities are now actively investigating the business dealings of Hunter Biden, a person with knowledge of the probe said. His father, President-elect Joe Biden, is not implicated.

The last sentence is classic CNN partisan cover. Biden is implicated in lying about his son, what he knew about his soon, and enabling his son. Whether he will be implicated in actual crimes has yet to be seen.

Neo points to earlier CNN reporting of Crossfire Hurricane:

“The investigation was officially opened on July 31, 2016, initially due to information on Trump campaign member George Papadopoulos’s early assertions of Russians having damaging material on Donald Trump’s rival candidate Hillary Clinton. From late July to November 2016, the joint effort between the FBI, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the National Security Agency (NSA) examined evidence of Russian meddling in the 2016 United States presidential election. The FBI’s team enjoyed a large degree of autonomy within the broader interagency probe.”

Neo comments ruefully, “The FBI was busy investigating Trump’s campaign associates, based on things they knew to be lies, falsifying evidence in order to obtain surveillance warrants from FISA, and leaking like a sieve to the media, all in the fall of 2016 in order to destroy Trump. No pre-election pause for Trump; au contraire.

More of yesterday’s delayed revelations about Hunter:

Investigators have been examining multiple financial issues, including whether Hunter Biden and his associates violated tax and money laundering laws in business dealings in foreign countries, principally China, according to two people briefed on the probe.

Some of those transactions involved people who the FBI believe sparked counterintelligence concerns, a common issue when dealing with Chinese business, according to another source.

The investigation began as early as 2018, predating the arrival of William Barr as US attorney general, two people briefed on the investigation said. The existence of the probe will present an immediate test of Biden’s promise to maintain the independence of the Justice Department.

Sinclair Broadcast Group reported in October that the FBI had opened a criminal investigation into Hunter Biden. CNN has learned new details about the scope of the probe, including that it is focused on China.

Neo helpfully points us to links here, here, here, and here.

Piers Morgan, a CNN alumnus and certified Trump-hater, properly and neatly puts this in perspective:

Imagine if Trump had actually won fair and square and was now preparing to be inaugurated for his second term of office?

Then imagine that his victory was quite narrow, like Biden’s, and came down to a few thousand votes in the swing states?

And then imagine that just before the election, a major US newspaper had published an explosive story about his son Donald Trump Jr. based around the contents of his personal laptop that revealed extensive dodgy dealings with people from foreign countries, some very unfriendly to the United States, and which even suggested his father may have been involved in some of those dealings?

Now imagine that in this eventuality, and with none of the key elements of the story denied by the Trumps, 90% of America’s mainstream media deliberately refused to cover the story, and social media giants like Twitter and Facebook actively suppressed it altogether?

Finally, imagine waking up today to hear that rather than Hunter Biden being formally investigated by federal authorities from the Justice Department over his financial affairs, as is the case, it was Donald Trump Jr. And that the investigation has been ongoing since 2018 but was ‘paused’ in case it affected the election. And that it has looked at allegations of potential criminal violations of tax and money laundering laws. And that it is now in front of a Delaware Grand Jury with a view to indictment.

By now, some of you might be screaming that the election was ‘rigged’ and ‘stolen’ from Joe Biden, right?…who knows how damaging it might have been if this federal investigation into Hunter Biden’s finances had been revealed before the election, and the mainstream media had given it the full Hillary Clinton email treatment that many believe cost her the 2016 election?

I said at the time that the media’s abject failure to properly report the New York Post’s scoop about Hunter was a shameful dereliction of journalistic duty driven by the inherent liberal bias of much of the US media – and I said it as a liberal myself. Predictably, and equally shamefully, the media responded by then trying to censor me too: I was dropped from an appearance on Brian Stelter’s CNN media show after going on Fox News and lambasting news organisations like my former CNN employers for refusing to follow up the Post’s Biden exposé.

Well of course Morgan was dropped, because CNN’s “media watchdog” Brian Stelter is, and has been, and has been thoroughly exposed as being, a pro-mainstream media bias lapdog. Similarly, law professor, blogger and columnist Glenn Reynolds had his column “The Disgraceful Hunter Biden Cover-Up” spiked before the election, leading to his resignation from USA Today’s op-ed staff.

Conservative pundit Jim Treacher writes in part,

The New York Post broke the story on Oct. 14, and our moral, ethical, and intellectual betters panicked. They knew the story was trouble for Joe Biden, so they straight-up lied about it. …According to them, the information was both “hacked” and also, somehow, “Russian disinformation.” When in truth, it was neither. Hunter Biden, an admitted drug abuser, abandoned one of his laptops at a repair shop less than five miles from his father’s home. The laptop is real. The information on it is real. The trouble Hunter finds himself in is real. The NY Post‘s story was censored on Twitter, and the outlet’s Twitter account was suspended. A lot of other Twitter users (including yours truly) were suspended for talking about the story. And now the Delaware computer repairman who stepped forward with hard evidence of Hunter Biden’s misdeeds has been driven into hiding. …Sorry to quote myself, but I really nailed this one on Oct. 22:

“This isn’t about an election, or at least it isn’t for me. It isn’t about who you think should be president for the next four years (or as long as Joe holds up). It’s about national media outlets blatantly refusing to tell you the truth because they think they know who should be president. They don’t think you can make that decision for yourself.”

Well, they did it. They swept the story under the rug because they knew it was bad for the guy who wanted to replace Trump, and they didn’t care about anything but replacing Trump. They weren’t worried about integrity, reputation, professionalism, or anything else that might have kept them from lying.

How can anyone honest disagree with that conclusion? This is an integrity test for your Trump Deranged social media friends and relatives. Any response to this other than the per se ethically bankrupt, Bill Maher-style, “Yeah, well, I don’t care. Anything to get Trump out of the White House, even news manipulation, public deception and more, is fine with me” proves they are either incredibly gullible or too stupid to flee approaching lava.

One excellent resource I have discovered recently is journalist, pundit and Twitter Master Drew Holden; it’s a miracle Twitter hasn’t banned him yet. He accumulates tweets from members of the Axis of Unethical conduct and republishes them when they demonstrate the ethics rot beneath. His file on the Hunter Biden cover-up, not a conspiracy theory but an actual conspiracy that may well have changed the result of the election, follows:

      • I’m glad there are fewer days ahead for me than there are behind. I won’t mind if I take a fairly early dirt nap like my grandfather.

      • Back on December the 4th, I wrote the following…

“I’m not much for using a tit-for-tat rationalization myself; however, I’m not going to fault the political right too much for continuing the same Presidential treatment precedence that the political left started. The modern Democratic Party led by extremist progressives and the irrational and violent social justice henchmen they empowered, implemented an unending scorched earth policy against a President of the United States and his supporters for four straight years and those choices are coming back to roost on their pompous-ass heads and dig their talons straight into the foreheads of the political left; choices have consequences. As the rhetorical blood drips down the political left’s forehead they should be forced at every turn to remember that the political left made their bed and is now estopped from complaining about being treated badly.”

I’m considering how I can actively support such this kind of tit-for-tat behavior without becoming morally bankrupt like so many in the political left have become.

        Sounds of Chaos
Hello ledge you are my friend
I’ve come to walk on you again
        Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
        Still remains
        Within the sounds of chaos.

      • Looking forward to it Jack. Hope you are clear as to what you want. Have shareholder owned newspapers ever been unbiased? Their aim is surely to sell newspapers and make profits. Shouldn’t you be promoting public service broadcasting but maybe with better governance … and a formal duty to inform?

      • I am on my way to DC this Saturday (today) to offer some resistance. Jim Hodgson’s comment below where he quoted Thomas Paine was partially instrumental in my decision to take part in the Jericho March. Whether or not it has any impact is yet to be determined but I do know that if 75 million voters suddenly went Independent and told the Republicans to fight for what they hold dear before they get one more dollar for Georgia they might just stop paying lip service to conservative ideals. Why didn’t the various Republican legislatures in the states where the Governors or courts changed election law join Texas and the other 17 states? Had they done so the argument about the existence of standing would not have existed.

We will gladly give the Republicans a hand up if they go to work for us but we are tired of giving hand outs. (sound familiar)

      • Jack: You quote Treacher : “This isn’t about an election …….It isn’t about who you think should be president ……..It’s about national media outlets blatantly refusing to tell you the truth …….”.

Frustrating, I’m sure. But no justification surely for your post:

“…… justifies full-on opposition, attack, and ongoing resistance to the Biden Administration, …….. without mercy”

How does it so “justify”.? How would “full on opposition and attack …. without mercy” fix it?

          • Seems to me your gripe is with the owners and controllers of the media, not with any particular political party. A ‘free press’ in a ‘free market’ inevitably results in a choice of biased output, all competing for attention. ‘We’ (well most of us ) have the wonderful freedom to access a wide variety of reporting and opinion. Your ‘EA’ is in this space and I much appreciate being able to read it, along with much else. I certainly don’t see it as unbiased and can’t imagine reading it if it was. (It would be far less interesting.)

I don’t see much room to improve the situation, other than to continue to support public service broadcasting, perhaps to avoid a Murdochian monopoly (?). Our main and most wonderful protection comes from technology, my ability to access EA etc without you (or me) having to be massively rich and powerful.

The public in general gets the press it supports. Do you have any constructive proposals?

            • You mean other than “don’t support biased and untrustworthy news media”? Journalists, like doctors and layers and accountants, should police themselves. They don’t, and that means they aren’t true professionals. But what they do is sufficiently important that they should have to.

I think the government could require journalists to publish ethical standards and police themselves by enforcing them. I’ll have to consider the ramifications of that, but my first impression is that it would be Constitutional.

              • George Orwell’s ‘Ministry of Truth’ won’t appeal. (1984)

The Brits set up a Ministry of Information in 1939 with a brief:

“To promote the national case to the public at home and abroad …… by issuing “National Propaganda” and controlling news and information.” It was initially responsible for censorship, issuing official news, home publicity and overseas publicity in Allied and neutral countries. These functions were matched by a responsibility for monitoring public opinion through a network of Regional Information Offices.

I can’t imagine this appealing to you either.

  1. If I brought this up with any of my Trump Deranged now former friends, I’d fully expect their reply to be, a la Harry Reid, “It worked, didn’t it?”

These people don’t have to worry about ethics. They are on the right side of history and they are moral. We just need to stay the hell out of their way.

  2. I am outraged. I laughed this morning when my local station covered the Biden investigation and joked, “Now that the election is over, sure!” I particularly laughed when when the morning newsreader told us that it is important for us to know that “Joe Biden has not been implicated”.

That is their tactic. They spent four years ramming the names of every Tom, Dick and Harry in legal trouble who had “ties” to Donald Trump, but Joe Biden is not implicated in a scheme involving his own son that involves influence-peddling with the former Vice-President and Senator.

It’s just too rich for me.

    • I get a kick out them casting it as just a tax or money laundering problem. See, there wasn’t any problem with how or where the money came from, it was just his reporting of the income. That’s the story they’ll push.

      • No, Joe will resign for “family and health reasons,” leaving President Kamala, the elite’s original choice.

Then they can pat themselves on the back for promoting “equity” or some other nonsense.

          • Joe really is a card board cut out of his former self. I saw a photo the other day of him taken sometime late in the Obama administration. There was a light in his eyes and a facility in his expression that is gone. He’s clearly significantly diminished. He can’t really convey any emotion with his face any more. This has to be symptomatic of some sort of senility. Disney won’t have to create an animatronic Biden, they can just move Joe down to Orlando and his handlers can keep him going just as he they are now.

          • No, she is black AND a woman so any critique of her is racist AND sexist!

Those traits you listed for Harris are the same Obama had, and he’s practically achieved sainthood in mainstream media.

  3. Bobby Hill said, “the Marxist cancer has spread to too much over the American body. It’s over.”
Jack Marshall said, “Nah. The fat lady hasn’t even cleared her throat!”

I lean more toward Jack’s point of view, but what really needs to be “over” is the complacency and armchair patriotism that rationalize, trivialize, ignore and thereby allow the creeping totalitarianism that currently threatens us.

    Thomas Paine said it best:
“These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.
“Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.
“What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated.” -Thomas Paine, The Crisis, December 1776

I believe a growing number of people are realizing how dear our liberty is, and are becoming roused to action. During my nine months of “Two Weeks to Flatten the Curve” isolation, I have spent a fair amount of time talking and corresponding with friends and former colleagues all over the country. The outrages of the AUC are becoming more plainly understood day by day, not just by those I have heard from, but by their friends, family and other colleagues as well. More and more people seem ready to say, “This far, no farther!” and mean it. I believe that a reckoning of some sort is at hand, whether it be a Balkanization of America or an unceasing, unyielding social and political effort from the grassroots to change our course. Time will tell!

  4. So, why is Hunter Biden revealing this? Why isn’t it coming from official sources? Does this mean Joe Biden did his job, got elected and is now standing in Harris’s way to the Oval Office?

    • JVB
I want to know why Barr put the investigation of Hunter that began in 2018 – long before Joe Biden was a candidate- on hold prior to the election. Since when does running for office exempt you from legal scrutiny? If that is the case, I am announcing my candidacy to run for President in every election until I win twice or die which ever comes first.

There would have been no reason to pause an investigation that was not publicly disclosed which is the way all investigations are supposed to be handled until an indictment is obtained. The SDNY did not stop discussing its investigations of Trump and family while Trump was running or after he was elected.

Where is this Durham investigation going, if anywhere. I bet that it fades away over the next few months.
How much has been spent I am beginning to think Barr played us for fools and was merely a tool of the Washington elite who worked so hard to protect their fiefdoms.

  5. Can Biden potentially be impeached over this? And why is this story coming out now when the media could have continued to ignore it?

    • Mrs. Q asked, “Can Biden potentially be impeached over this?”

The way I understand impeachment the answer would have to be no because this is not something he did while in office as the President of the United States.
