Another Totalitarian Tell: In The House Of Representatives, Only One Party Has To Obey the Rules. Now What?

metal detector

I will not accept this, and if you do, have your prison jump-suit measured.

You’ll be needing it.

Last week, Democrats in the House passed a new rule requiring members to pass through a metal detector before they entered the House floor. After all several Democrats said they were all scared and stuff of those scary GOP members who support the Second Amendment. Some of them even own those evil guns! ,

Some House members tried evading the metal detectors and entered through what’s known as “the speaker’s lobby,” so Speaker Pelosi began issuing fines for that. Rep. Louis Gohmert was fined $5,000 after briefly leaving the floor to go to the bathroom. Then Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Il) —if it had been a Democrat, we never would have heard about it—caught Pelosi herself entering through the speaker’s lobby and avoiding the detectors. Because metal detectors are for the little people. The beaten people. The submissive or soon to be. Sort of like electric collars.

Fox News (of course Fox News-–you don’t think any of the regime supporting media sources would dare report this, do you?) said:

“She opened the session on the floor, she came through what is known as the Speaker’s lobby,” Davis said. “We are all told, one Republican was fined for doing this just yesterday, that you cannot walk through those entrances unless you are disabled.”

Also reporting the episode were the New York Post, The Blaze, The Epoch Times—you know, all of those lying, enemies of the state who make up things that are designed to convince the gullible the progressives and Democrats aren’t the saviors of all the is Good—but not the REAL news media. Okay, apparently Yahoo did report the story, but that’s just like Time snitching on the election-rigging. Pelosi’s office did not deny the Davis’s accusation, despite requests for comment. Of course it didn’t! She did break her own rule. Of course she did…because she can. What’s the big deal?

Rep. Dan Crenshaw is such a stickler, but then he was in the military and has some antiquated notions. “Pay the fine, Speaker Pelosi,” he tweeted. The GOP rep then told Fox News,

“Now is this a smart rule? No. Is this a rule that makes sense? No of course not. But that’s not the point, the point is they’re her rules. She’s literally confiscated property in the form of money, which we think is unconstitutional, but in any case they’re doing it. She won’t abide by the rules herself so we’re going to make a huge push for her to actually have to pay that fine.”

Davis called the Capitol Police to report the incident, who are supposed to send a report to the acting Sergeant-at-Arms, Timothy Blodgett. Then he issues the fine. But it seems the Capitol Police never reported the incident.

“Yesterday, at approximately 9:59 am, multiple members observed the Speaker of the House entering the House Chamber without completing security screening,” the Republicans wrote yesterday. “What was observed was a clear violation of House Resolution 73 and you are required by House Rules to impose this fine. Please inform us once the fine has been assessed. We look forward to a prompt response to this inquiry.”

Oh, please. Nancy Pelosi wouldn’t deliberately be so hypocritical, dishonest, and unfair as to…oh. Right. I forgot.

Now what? And no, this is not a little thing. The Republicans need to metaphorically go to war over this, and if they don’t, patriotic Americans will have to, and without the “metaphorically.” Pelosi should pay the fine, explain herself, and, I believe, resign. What she has exhibited in doing this is far worse than Rep. Taylor-Greene’s outrageous tweets. Those were words. This is conduct, and the conduct of a dictator.

As for Ethics Alarms, the gloves are off.

  1. The hearings they have, such as Hillary Clinton concerning Benghazi, amounted to a HUGE expense to the American Tax Payer and was nothing more than a lot of lip-smacking and tail wagging from both sides. One huge soap opera for the public and nothing more. None of them suffer any consequences.
No wonder we have children with no respect for the law because they see government officials, sports players, movie stars doing wrong, and the most they receive is a slap on the wrist while keeping their assets and jobs.
As the article says, it was reported to the law enforcement, and they did nothing; you may have one or two republicans that will say something, but they will be ignored, and the matter will be dropped. So who do you complain to?

  2. Representative Dan Crenshaw was a Navy Seal and lost his sight in Iraq when an IED exploded next to him. (later he recovered sight in one eye). Don’t think he’ll ever let up on Pelosi. Knowing her she’ll try to wiggle out of the fine though.

  3. The beatings will continue until morale improves. Of course, we doubt morale will improve with these wogs, so…

This double-standard is no different than the rest, and with our collective pick of many, many perfectly defensible hills to die on, this one is as good as any.

  4. Increasingly, it’s clear, they want to bully an entire half of the electorate. It’s also increasingly clear that they want a divided union. It’s increasingly clear that the Democrats are acting exactly like they acted in the 1840s and 1850s.

The finalization of the political realignment that is in its infancy could be as destructive to the Democrat party is the 1850s realignment was to the Democrats — leaving them holding a very ugly position.

And we saw what they did then to the nation in their ensuing temper tantrum.

Given the current cadre of Democrats, I don’t expect anything less from the temper tantrum they will throw.

  5. Rep. Taylor-Greene’s outrageous tweets were just a smokescreen. There are other house members who have engaged in even worse behavior and aren’t having their committee assignments revoked. You could say that it is rationalization, you could also say it is supporting selective enforcement. By accepting selective enforcement of the rules, you encourage selective enforcement of the rules. Supporting the punishment of Rep. Taylor-Greene encourages and supports such behavior. If you don’t want to support such behavior, insist that EVERYONE responsible for such conduct also be punished or no one gets punished. I mean, Eric Swallwell had a years-long affair with a Chinese spy and is on the Intelligence and Homeland Security committees. No one is seriously suggesting he be removed from his committees. You can say that this a rationalization, that although Swallwell’s behavior is demonstrably worse, Taylor-Greene deserves her punishment. However, if you accept that Taylor-Greene should be punished while Swallwell isn’t punished, you are accepting arbitrary and selective rules and shouldn’t complain about Pelosi punishing some people for violating a rule that she violates herself without consequences. How was that any different, much less worse?

When I was in college, the football team had several high-profile incidents that should have resulted in major sanctions from the NCAA. The school had a very successful basketball coach that they hated (he didn’t come from the ‘right’ background, think Trump in New York). So, they had an ‘investigation’ of the athletic department and turned the basketball team in for some minor violations (recruits got free t-shirts or something along those lines) and fired the basketball coach. So, the NCAA dropped the investigation of the football program. They got rid of someone they didn’t like while covering up the abuses of people they do like.

Pelosi can keep this up forever. There are enough Republicans involved in sketchy stuff that Pelosi can discipline one a day, freeing the Democrats to do whatever they want. There are enough laws these days that we are all probably guilty of felonies and may not even know it. Selective enforcement just means that any of us can be convicted at any time. This is the government ideal, to be able to send anyone they want to jail, at any time. “Show me the man, and I will show you the crime”.

  6. Never forget: The democrat party started the civil war and they’re still a viable party today. 500,000 dead at their hands, and no long term consequences for it. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is beneath them even for petty political point scoring.
