Ethics Dunce: Tucker Carlson

Fox News host Tucker Carlson reacted to the week’s news about the pause on the Johnson & Johnson Wuhan virus vaccine to suggest to his viewers that the  government may know that they don’t work but are purposely “not telling you that.” During a general rant about vaccines, Fauci and related matters, Carlson concluded,

“Experts say it is not entirely clear when it will be considered okay for people who are fully vaccinated to stop wearing masks. At some point, no one is asking this but everyone should be, what is this about? If vaccines work, why are vaccinated people still banned from living normal lives? Honestly, what’s the answer to that, it doesn’t make any sense at all! If the vaccine is effective, there’s no reason for people who’ve received a vaccine to wear masks or avoid physical contact. So maybe it doesn’t work and they’re simply not telling you that. Well, you’d hate to think that especially if you’ve gotten two shots but what’s the other potential explanation? We can’t think of one.”

Tucker’s not thinking very hard. 1) The vaccines are not 100% effective. 2) New strains may not be prevented by the current vaccines. 3) If doctors could have their way, everyone would wear masks all the time anyway, because doctors don’t care about smiles, faces, and social health. The masks have essentially prevented the seasonal flu this year, so doctors think they are wonderful. “What’s the downside?,” they think. Doctors don’t think masks making life suck is a downside, you see. This is why the government should never put public policy in the hands of doctors.

It is irresponsible for the Fox News host to encourage anti-vaxxers, of whom there are too many already. Tucker is smart, but he’s smug and glib, and too many conservatives worship at his feet for him to be so reckless. In the same segment, he said, “In its story about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this morning, Axios reported the Biden administration is worried that halting distribution of the shot might encourage ‘vaccine hesitancy.’ In other words, don’t tell them it’s dangerous, they might not take it. That doesn’t reassure anyone.”

Ethics foul, again. The vaccine in question killed 6 people, and appears to have about 1 in 900,000 fatality rate at most. Using a swimming pool is more dangerous than that. Concluding that a vaccine is not 100% risk free—actually 100.0000% risk free—doesn’t mean it’s “dangerous.”

Tucker has a point, however, illustrated by the announcement by Pfizer that their vaccinations may need a booster shot in twelve months. NOW you tell us? I had my second Pfizer shot last week, and nobody mentioned this. The reason so many people don’t trust the government and the vaccination producers is because they can’t get their stories straight, and make absolute statements when they know they should be hedging.

  1. I would hope Carlson doesn’t think these particular vaccines are (or should be or have been reported to be) 100% effective. To some degree, I’ve been a “vaccine skeptic”. But that’s because, to a full degree, I’ve been a skeptic about this pandemic almost since it started.

I don’t deny Wuhan virus is real and it can be dangerous and lethal, but the political and medical shenanigans we’ve seen played out over the last 15 months have made me question my trust in an awful lot of institutions that I would rather trust more than less. It’s also served to create that skepticism.

So I think Tucker’s central question in the section of his monologue that you quoted is well worth asking – repeatedly asking. If the vaccines are effective, why am I still required to live as though they are not? Every year there is a new strain of flu virus and some people get a vaccine, others don’t, and none of us has ever been required to live under such restriction as we do now.

So I ask rhetorically, when 50% of the country is vaccinated, are we allowed to live 2019-esque lives again? Or will we continually be fed one story after another to prevent that?

And Jack, I have an actual question, one that I maybe would not have contemplated were it not for your work here: At some point, does it become ethical for me to tell Wal-Mart and Menards and Trader Joe’s “I will not wear a mask any longer and it is no longer valid for you to mandate it.”…?

Thanks again for the good work you do!

      • They have that right, but should you go to such a store? They also have the right to make you put on a hat that says “Pedophilia is a right!”, but you maybe shouldn’t go to such a store. What if EVERY store made you do that, though? Just because they can, should they?

The vaccine issue is pretty complicated and I don’t think there is reliable data out there. There are a lot of questions raised by the reporting and policies regarding COVID.

*What is the risk of COVID-19 for people? They were sending out the combined data for colleges for the country in late 2020. The last one I saw was ~100,000 positive COVID-19 cases, about 35 hospitalizations, and no deaths. Then they stopped sending them. This would probably give the Johnson and Johnson vaccine about the same death rate as COVID-19, even using the rosy, most likely highly finessed risks released to the public for young, healthy people. The statistics for COVID deaths are completely unreliable, so how can we make a rational, informed choice about an experimental vaccine? The Moderna and Pfizer vaccine data says they will increase my survival chances from COVID from 99.6% to 99.7%. Is an experimental vaccine worth such a benefit? Should I even trust those numbers? Those are most likely ‘best possible outcome’ numbers as well.

*There are a LOT of people suffering serious side effects, especially the lymph system infections. Local doctors are talking about doing a lot of surgeries to remove lymph nodes to try to treat the infections in recent vaccine recipients. What are the rates for this? Why is this not being reported widely? No one from my church has died from COVID, but there are several in the hospital for severe vaccine side-effects right now. Should I disregard such knowledge and trust the same people who routinely lie to me to promote their own agendas? Should I trust vaccines that the manufacturers won’t distribute unless they are given a complete liability release when I don’t feel I am being given the full story about side-effects?

*There are no doubt more deaths from the Johnson and Johnson vaccine than that. The report below came out about the same time. There are probably more that aren’t being covered, maybe a lot more. Repeating the stated number of deaths and the statistics for that is like repeating the “Russia Pays Bounties for US Soldiers” line as fact. It is from the same sources.

*Why are vaccinated and even healthy people being restricted with masks, etc? Name me another disease where we do that? Chickenpox? Measles? Polio? Even people being treated for tuberculosis aren’t treated like that and tuberculosis is 100x worse than COVID. Why are people who had COVID and have antibodies being pressured to take the vaccine? Name another disease where that is done?

*The side effect of all authorities and major media routinely lying to us is that we can’t trust anything they say. You can’t tell me that it is rational to listen to the advice of the same people who pushed the ‘Russia Narrative”, have had to retract numerous false stories, who covered up or minimized the crimes of people like Hillary Clinton, who pushed #MeToo and also backed Joe Biden. So, who should I trust? All I have left is my own experience and data I can collect and that tells me that these vaccines seem worse than COVID itself. In the last few weeks, a lot of people who have had COVID and the vaccine have told me that the vaccine is worse. Why would I want a vaccine that is worse than the disease itself? This is especially true when the proponents of the vaccine TELL ME that the only benefit is a 0.1% increased survival rate for COVID.

*Our local ‘experts’ have been proven to be incompetent or untrustworthy. Our local University Med Center ‘infectious disease expert’ and ‘COVID Spokesman’ went on statewide news last week. He said we should expect blood clots with the Johnson and Johnson and Astra Zeneca vaccines because mRNA vaccines cause the body to produce an antibody that could stick to blood cells and cause clots. However, the Johnson and Johnson and Astra Zeneca vaccines AREN’T mRNA vaccines, the Pfizer and Moderna ones are. The previous ‘COVID Spokesman’ spoke on the news and said that all schoolchildren should be vaccinated only because they might transmit COVID to the elderly, then said they still needed to wear masks at school because they could still transmit the virus. Why should I pay attention to anything they say?

Why is any of this irrational?

    • Same here. I have excellent discernment and when the media started pushing masks and Fauci was arguing against them r they didn’t listen… my radar picked that and other stuff up.

Something is very wrong here. And sadly, or maybe it’s good, once you see it, one can’t unsee it.

I too am thankful for Jack and others shedding light on the lies were being fed. And when studies come out like the new Kaiser one showing 22 mins of exercise a day showed less symptoms and hospitalization on par with the 2 shots being pushed – makes one wonder why the media isn’t running that story 24/7.

Even for those Waiting for a shot, it’s valuable info and they should be letting the public know non stop.

But then 22 minutes of exercise doesn’t cost money.

      So sad.

  2. “The masks have essentially prevented the seasonal flu this year, so doctors thing they are wonderful.”
No they haven’t. Anymore than they’ve prevented the spread of Coronavirus, or any other virus.
The reasons for the collapse of seasonal flu numbers are likely at least partly due to viral competition, which is decently described in this article (published prior to the pandemic).

  3. Experts have been saying the RNA gene therapy shots do require boosters in 6-12 months and maybe forever and they have been accused of sowing “disinformation” or has it been changed to “mis” now?

Sadly one narrative is being allowed on these shots and it’s pandemic and it’s being mostly sensored until it’s proven true then I were told it’s “science.”

But it’s not science till the government says so.

I find this the most disturbing thing of all.
