Someone was trying to make a point about the trying times in which we live is my guess. It was meant as a kinda nudge-nudge, wink-wink joke. Christmas isn’t about that. I vote stupidity.
That’s pretty darn stupid.
Stupid though I think the facial expression leans towards malice.
I’d vote stupid. I’m not sure that picture was taken in the US based on the background though.
After some searching, it looks like this originated in 2019 somewhere in Lages, a Brazilian municipality located in the central part of the state of Santa Catarina,

I think it’s just stupidity. A Santa caganer would take a different pose.
