When Ethics Alarms Don’t Ring…Or Were Never Installed: The Caring Asst. Principal

First of all, has Ms. Harvey (idiot/idiot/idiot’s) been fired yet? Why not? At least the principal reacted quickly, sending out this:

That’s good as far as it goes, but questions remain. Why is someone without comprehension of the rule of law, the nature of illegal immigration, and the “inappropriateness” of aiding and abetting a criminal operation serving as an assistant principal? “Coyote” is a “group that helps people”? What other distortions is this school passing along to students? According to the Department of Justice, a “coyote” is a term for a “human smuggler.”

Are the parents marching to this school with torches and pitchforks? If not, why not? Have the police paid a visit to Ms. Harvey?

“The school’s principal immediately took steps to have a retraction issued when she learned of the email,” said a spokesperson for the school district. “The Providence Public School District is now investigating. We will not be commenting further on ongoing personnel matters to ensure the proper processes can take place.”

Sure. Why should anyone trust the school, the school district, or the “investigation”?

  1. Not only is this woman ethically inert, her English language comprehension appears to be that of a 5th grader.

Reading her email made my head hurt! I blame you, Jack. 🙂

“The Providence Public School District is now investigating. We will not be commenting further on ongoing personnel matters to ensure the proper processes can take place.”

Shorter version: We are searching for an excuse to let this drop.

    Morons, all of them.

    • Possibly, judging by her email, she has no actual idea what a “coyote” is in the context of illegal immigration?

      Just spitballing here…

      • Golly, a perfect excuse for the entire school to learn about the reality of illegal immigration and the role of coyotes especially as related to the horror of human trafficking.
A mandatory one week concentrated focus for students, teachers, admins, and at the end of the week fire she/her/hers in a splashy way.
This way everyone will understand why this woke loser is being relieved of her duties while capitalizing with a teachable moment. Never let a crisis go to waste.

  2. What is going on here? Is she so sheltered and ignorant that she really believed “Coyote” was the proper name of a legitimate philanthropic organization, and dim enough not to question why such an organization would require payment, especially in such amounts, especially from a family that apparently can’t afford to pay?

Or did she figure everyone else was stupid and sheltered, and wouldn’t know what a “coyote” really is if she didn’t spell it out explicitly?

Either way, it displays a shocking lack of understanding of the real world, for someone supposedly entrusted with educating the young. The only question is whether she’s ignorant and innocent, or ignorant and deceptive.

  3. Not to rag on every teacher that ever taught, I’m sure we all have a fond memory or two of the good ones, but my impression is that there is a class of teachers, more common the younger the age of their students, that tends to be really… I don’t know how to say this nicely, so I’m not going to try…. That class of teacher is dense. Naïve. Unworldly. Book-smart and street-dumb. They went from school to school to school as a student, then a teacher (and then in this case an assistant principle) without a smattering of real life infecting the pristine bubble of their very cripplingly limited experiences and when they finally interact with people, and depending on the situation it can be decades into their career, they are so divorced from reality there is no limit to the depths of stupidity that they are prepared to engage in. But they do it with a smile on their face and a perpetually confused look as your mouth moves.

Without actually knowing, I’d be willing to bet money that this person had no idea what a Coyote was. That she was told that one of her students was trying to fundraise to reunite with her family, that she wanted to do a good thing, and that that was the way to do it.
