Housekeeping Note Re Banned Commenters

Much as I hate to give attention to rule-breaking visitors here who get themselves banned, I need to clean this up.

Yesterday a former commenter who who was banned years ago returned with a semi-reasonable comment, and I, mixing up screen names, unwittingly welcomed him back thinking he had been AWOL rather than banned. That was my fault; I apologized upon discovering it, and in penance, left up the couple of comments he had left thinking that I had relented, here.

I also informed him—that’s “Chris”— that no further comments of his would remain on EA going forward. Nevertheless, he dumped more comments on other posts today, and also inspired a couple of other banned commenters to invade.

When I spam banned commenters’ attempts to sneak back on, any replies legitimate commenter make to them vanish as well. I know it is easy to miss the ban announcements, as I can’t place them on every post. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Now back to work…

    • It’s this obsessive aspect that I find most disturbing about the far left (and those edging toward it). They hate Jack, hate the blog, but are hanging on watching, waiting and sneaking back in. They can’t let anything go, can’t let others have any opinions that aren’t in lockstep with their own. So many of them are like this! I had a friend who was part of an online group (he passed away a few years ago) who was the sweetest guy, until you talked politics. He’d hammer and hammer the same points over and over, keep goading people to come back to whatever online discussion it was at the time, for days on end. Openly mock people and question their intelligence…you learned not to talk politics with him quickly. Politics aside, he’d give you the shirt off his back, go the extra mile for any of his friends. I thought he was an anomaly. I see Chris and others like him and realize that this is who they are; aggressive, relentless, contemptuous, fond of shouting people down and scorched earth tactics. For those they deem unworthy there are no second chances, no mercy, and no redemption. It’s quite a narcissistic world view. The political version of the Spanish Inquisition.

      • Exactly. For example, here is what one of those banned commenters slipped into the comments on the post about Johnny Bench’s “He was Jewish” gaffe: “I’m sure you shrug it off the same way when liberals call Trump supporters “white trash”. That’s not fair, it’s not in good faith, it’s not even relevant or clever. It’s just gratuitously nasty.

        • Chris’ post calling you a political hack wasn’t exactly intellectual either. He lost a fight here and he just can’t accept that he lost. He got the door slammed in his face here and he can’t accept that he isn’t wanted. After all, he’s the smart one and can’t lose, and anyone who would slam the door in his face must just be an idiot. Just for the record, it’s now been FIVE YEARS since he was unceremoniously shown the door for mocking the host over the Mueller investigation that ultimately went nowhere. There’s some people who I’m still pissed off at about the way they acted towards me 5 years ago, but I don’t still look to attack them. I don’t still lurk on whatever internet presence they might have ready to jump down their throat. There’d be no use to doing that, it would change nothing, and it would just waste time, which is in short supply.

I’m guessing that Chris was the school loudmouth who just never got beaten up growing up. Honestly, if this was other than a keyboard environment, I’m sure one or more of us would have asked him to step outside a long time ago and laid a vicious beatdown on him a la A History of Violence. If he’s that much of a mouthy jerk in life it’s a wonder that someone else in his life hasn’t administered some physical medicine.

You may turn to me and say, “Come on, Steven, don’t talk like that.” You may also say that it’s not justified to beat someone up over words. The fact is that beatdowns and ass-kickings don’t just drop out of the sky. Nine times out of 10 they have been a long time in coming. I said in another post that the mid teen attitude that I’m going to smirk, I’m going to throw insults, I’m going to throw up my middle finger, and I’m just generally going to be as obnoxious as I possibly can be and nobody can touch me only goes so far before someone decides to show this obnoxious person what the consequences are. Even then, the message doesn’t get through. These people are like kids who whine after being spanked that their parents are mean. No, the parents aren’t mean, you’re just a rotten kid who pushed them to their limits.

I get the impression that there are people that lose their cool and start doing this at their computer…

Even though those extremely negative personality traits are very common with the hard left they are certainly not limited to the far left. You can sometimes find those very same traits all over the internet in comment threads and that can sometimes include places like Ethics Alarms, but then again, what would an arrested-development manchild who’s too stupid to type and breathe at the same time like me know.

  1. Wow! Chris showed up? Again? Kind of sorry I missed it. I still think he’s a paid, full-time Dem operative. May even be working on commission.

Is Chris a full time paid Dem operative trolling the internet, not likely, no one would pay for
his nonsense. Chris really is a full time middle school teacher in California, recently married and recently became a new father. I truly think that his constant exposure to middle schoolers has added to his inability to mature a way that he should have, personally I think most fully consumed “progressives” and socially “woke” imbeciles fall into this mentally immature category that have never actually matured beyond middle schooler mentality.

Now, is Chris obsessed and a card carrying member of the California Association of Trolling Teachers trying to meet some kind of unspoken arbitrary internet trolling goals, it’s certainly possible.

  2. When I saw his post earlier, I just assumed Chris Marschner. Funny how my mind read the first name and never thought it through…it took me a minute to realize my mistake.

    • Actually Joel, I was the one who responded with a rebuttal to the other one. I only did so because I thought he had apologized to Jack and was no longer banned.
