“Ick” or Ethics?

Yikes.

Possible responses:

  • This is self-evident pandering.
  • High officials shouldn’t behave like this in public.
  • If Donald Trump did it, the mainstream media and anti-Trump activists would call it “racist.”
  • It’s kind of cute and charming.
  • The video is dumb, but how can it not make you smile? If it does, how bad can it be?
  • Gov. Polis needs better advisors.

What was your reaction?

        • I disagree.

I think it undermines trust in the individual politician not the office and does nothing to undermine trust in the Democratic system. That politician can be voted out of office just as fast as he was voted into office if he undermines trust in himself too much.

          • I think you undervalue the Office-Office Holder meld. Just as with the Presidency, each occupant changes and, hopefully, enhances the office’s credibility, image and reputation. The office holder should live up to the office and its standards. One who does not lowers those standards.

              I think that’s a fair statement.

Those that don’t, can’t or won’t live up to my personal perception of the “office” don’t diminish the “office” to me. The office holder is temporary, the office is not, the standards for the office should not change.

I’m not so sure about that. Regardless of what President’s Obama, Biden and Trump have done I still have vast respect for the office and expect high standards regardless of who is in the office. My expectations for the office holder is high and none of the last three presidents have met my perceived standards, those standards haven’t changed because there have been three presidents that haven’t met them.

The the standards for the office are only lowered if the voting public rationalizes not meeting the perceived standards to a point that voters choose to accept a lower standard, I’m not there yet.

This might be a result of my military training where you are always expected to respect the rank regardless of what you think of the person that holds that rank otherwise the chain of command can effectively break down.

                • I don’t know because it’s probably based too much on individual opinions to quantify.

If we can get past this age of rage where it’s all about getting revenge, we’ll see if a new norm for the voting masses sets in. For me, I’m not likely to change, at least not much.

  1. If this was something he did for his grandkids and it got out, I would give him a pass. As something he intentionally did to release to the public…
    (1) He needs better advisors.
    (2) It is blatant pandering. If Hispanics vote for this, I don’t want to hear them complain when their small businesses are run out of business during the next ‘shutdown’ mandated for ‘garbage emergency #651d’.
    (3) If Donald Trump did this, Polis would call Trump a racist and probably have Trump arrested, charged, and tried under a hate-crime statute.
    (4) Democrats will say it is fine and all complaints are because ‘Republicans pounced’.
