Worst Nobel Peace Prize Nomination Ever?

Giving a Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama for doing nothing but existing looks increasingly reasonable. A member of the Norwegian Parliament just made a sufficiently outrageous nomination for the honor to topple the previous champion while making Obama look like the Dalai Lama.

The previous prize for a ridiculous nomination came in 2021, when a different member of the Norwegian Parliament, Petter Eide, formally nominated Black Lives Matter for the honor. “I find that one of the key challenges we have seen in America, but also in Europe and Asia, is the kind of increasing conflict based on inequality,” Eide said. “Black Lives Matter has become a very important worldwide movement to fight racial injustice. They have had a tremendous achievement in raising global awareness and consciousness about racial injustice.” Riiight.

By the time Eide had filed his nomination, the George Floyd “mostly peaceful” protests led by the Marxist group had caused billions of dollars in damage, destroyed businesses, and spread vandalism, arson, looting and violence across the U.S. At least 19 people died during the protests. Many police officers were shot, injured, hit deliberately by automobiles, and bloodied by rocks, bricks and bottles.Four officers were shot in St. Louis; another police officer was shot in the head at a Las Vegas casino while trying to arrest a protester; nearly 400 officers were injured in New York City. In Los Angeles, two officers were shot while sitting in their patrol car. Protesters blocked the responding ambulance from taking them to the hospital.

You know: peace.

Former Atlanta mayor and civil rights activist Andrew Young said that riots, violence, and looting “hurt the cause instead of helping it.” That depends on what you consider “the cause.” The riots enshrined anti-white racism in the schools, universities, laws, businesses and popular culture. Race relations in the U.S. are worse now than they have been in half a century. Still, to be fair, it must be conceded that the Black Lives Matter leadership made a fortune before most donors figured out that the organization was a racket, so at least the insanity was profitable for them.

How could there be a more unethical nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize than that one? The august Norwegian Parliament was up to the challenge! (Remember, the Nobel prizes originate in Norway.)

MP Asmund Aukrust announced that he had nominated UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine, “for its long-term work to provide vital support to Palestine and the region in general,” adding that “this work has been crucial for over 70 years, and even more vital in the last three months.” Riiight.

At least twelve members of UNRWA were almost certainly involved in the terrorist attack on Israel, thus making the work of the corrupted agency “even more vital” since October 7. The same Israeli intelligence report that named the twelve (now fired) also concluded that about 1,200 UNRWA employees in Gaza are committed to the Hamas jihad.

The Nobel Peace Prize has forfeited all of its legitimacy by becoming a purely political operation, embarrassing its founder Alfred Nobel and staining his legacy with both its awards and its process.

As for the Norwegian parliament, I think George Santos and the Squad could have a bright future there.

This sounds worse than the riot in the Capitol.

    Some may call it insurrection.

  2. It was bad when Arafat got the Nobel Peace Prize, but at the time they had the excuse that progress was being made in the peace talks. It’s been downhill since then.

  3. I don’t know, there are so many terrible Peace Prize winners that a mere nomination like this may not even be noteworthy.

Yasir Arafat and the PLO had a semi-autonomous region in Jordan that ran a warlord-like government. They carried out terrorist raids against Israel from Jordan and the West Bank, that was controlled by Jordan until the 6-Day War ( when Israel conquered the West Bank from Jordan and the Gaza Strip from Egypt). Arafat and the PLO hijacked 5 jetliners, took most of them to Jordan, and held over 400 people hostage. The Jordanian government fought the PLO to get the hostages back. The PLO then tried to assassinate King Hussein several times. Then, Arafat tried to overthrow the Jordanian government. In Black September, over 15,000 Palestinians were killed and 50,000 left homeless in the civil war against the Jordanian government. They were expelled from Jordan and the only place that would take them was Lebanon. They created a semi-autonomous region in Lebanon and, with the help of Syria (and Iran?) overthrew the government of Lebanon, killing or exiling most of the 60% of the country that was Christian. The Black September movement of the PLO then assassinated the Jordanian Prime Minister and 11 Israeli athletes during the 1972 Munich Olympics. Arafat’s life work resulted in the dispossession and poverty of the group called “Palestinians”. He received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to bring peace to the Middle East.

Gorbachev received the Nobel Peace Prize for not killing as many people as he could have when the Soviet Union fell apart.
