Biden-Supporters Are Officially Ethically Estopped From Complaining That Trump Lies

President Biden went on Seth Myers’s late night show this week to bask in a fawning interview by a partisan supporter who wouldn’t ask him any questions harder than “What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?,” and still managed to screw up.

After the show’s taping, Biden was confronted by reporters while licking an ice-cream cone and asked when a Gaza ceasefire might occur. “I hope by… the end of the weekend,” Biden answered. “My national security advisor tells me we’re close. We’re close. It’s not done yet. My hope is by next Monday, we’ll have a ceasefire,” Biden said. That was great news for anti-Israel progressives, and right before the Michigan primary, where Biden was likely to face Arab protest votes against his re-nomination.

The cease-fire prediction apparently was imaginary, either the result of Biden’s addled brain misfiring again, or an outright lie. When Benjamin Netanyahu was asked about it, he replied that he was “surprised” by Biden’s statement. Yesterday Netanyahu added that he was “leading a political campaign whose purpose is to curb the pressures intended to end the war before its time” and that his plan was to “continue the campaign until the complete victory.” On the other side, Hamas leader Ahmad Abdelhadi said no deal that didn’t include a “permanent ceasefire” was acceptable. The Qataris who have been moderating Israel-Hamas talks said they were not aware of any breakthroughs of the sort Biden alluded to. When John Kirby, the competent member of Biden’s paid liar team, was asked about what Biden was talking about if Netanyahu was so “surprised” by the assertion that a cease-fire is imminent, he answered, “I can’t speak to that.”

Talk to any Trump-Deranged Biden supporters and one of the first things out of their mouths during the “Trump is a Nazi and a threat to democracy” rant is that he lies all the time. This was one of the constant narratives used to undermine his Presidency (the Washington Post even started a Trump lie database, in which maybe 10% were really lies) and is an ongoing narrative. However, reality is that Joe Biden lies at least as frequently as Trump ever did. The news media just lets him get away with it. More importantly, I doubt that any Trump lie involved a matter as substantive and of immediate importance to the public as Biden’s cease-fire deception. At this point, President Biden literally cannot be relied upon to be truthful and accurate whatever he says.

Pundits, Democrats and others who have the integrity to acknowledge that fact can continue to criticize Trump’s hyperboles, exaggerations and demagoguery. Those who do not should shut up, because they are not interested in honesty, character or trust. To them, lies are just tools of the trade, deplorable when their foes employ them, effective to claim against their foes even when no lie has been uttered, and to be shrugged off as “mistakes” when the liar is an ally.

  1. But Jack, journalism is about advocacy, not fact. What matters is whether or not the journalists can make the rest of the public believe Trump is a mendacious sack of deceit and Biden is pure as driven snow. If they can’t make the public swallow that Biden is a truth-teller, then they’ll just have to shift tactics. If the public starts to believe Biden really is a liar, they’ll just sweep the liar stories under the rug and hound Trump on some other front. (It doesn’t help that Trump makes shifting tactics easy…) Consistency and standards are not in vogue anymore. It is only what gets the preferred candidate elected.

I expect the mainstream media to continue to become further and further unmoored from truth and reality for quite some time, at least through the 2024 elections, and well beyond if they succeed at getting Biden reelected.

Bullseye. Now I could buy Churchill saying that some truths are so important that they must be protected by a bodyguard of lies…in wartime. However, to act like you’re just at liberty to be false or even deliberately deceptive (i.e. cutting parts of videos that undercut your narrative) with the opposition at any time, anywhere, for any reason or no reason, while he is not allowed to stumble or even make an honest mistake without you leaping all over him and calling him a liar isn’t doing anything but turning journalism into full-time propaganda.
