July 4th Post-Debate Ethics, As the Founders Spin in Their Graves…

Again, it is important to emphasize the very valuable silver lining in this horrible episode for America. It has ripped the masks off so many metaphorical Phantoms of the Opera. We now know, unless we are determined not to know, that the Democratic Party and the White house has deliberately defied core democratic principles by deceiving the public regarding the capabilities of the President of the United States, probably from the very beginnings of his term. We now know that the corrupt news media made no effort to let the public know about this information crucial to their ability to self-govern, either hiding the fact of President Biden’s deterioration or employing contrived ignorance.

And, as that disgusting rant above from a Democratic delegate above to black sports pundit Stephen A. Smith shows, we now know how warped and cynical the values of the progressive cult are.

Just listen to that woman. The only thing that matters to her is race. The color of Biden’s judges and appointments means that they were good choices: performance, ability, merit are completely superfluous in her mind. Kamala Harris should replace Biden as a candidate, if he is replaced, because she’s a black woman, and that’s that. The delegate then explains that there’s no need to have a functioning President; after all, there are plenty of other people in the administration who are competent (I would dispute that)—you know, like the Politburo.

The clip is, we are told, going viral. Good. It should go viral. It should be played by every TV news outlet and on every news and opinion website every morning, like they use to play the Star Spangled Banner at the beginning of the broadcast day, and played again at midnight from now until the election so there is no chance that a single voter will be under the delusion that this party that claims to be devoted to saving democracy is anything more than what this epiphanous episode has revealed. This is who they are, and what they are. Believe it, and act accordingly.

Meanwhile,

1. In a slightly more erudite form, the worst and most Trump Deranged member of the New York Times opinion columnist kennel, Charles M. Blow, revealed the same set of priorities and values as that delegate in one of his more sickening screeds entitled, “Forcing Biden Out Would Have Only One Beneficiary, Trump.” What matters, Blow tells readers, and all that matters, is defeating Donald Trump and keeping the Democratic Party in power. Giving the voting public a competent candidate to consider for the job of running the country doesn’t register on Blow’s radar screen at all.

Biden is his party’s best chance to win, Blow explains, so he should be the candidate, and the fact that the debate revealed that Joe belongs in a rest home and under 24-hour medical care shouldn’t factor into the process at all. Blow’s reasoning would apply equally to running a block of cheddar cheese, a wad of gum, or a pangolin if polls showed that they would prevail over Trump.

Or Kamala Harris. Blow likes Harris, but thinks a foggy, semi-aware, tottering old coot being led around by his wife like a cocker spaniel would be better because the shell of Joe Biden is the best chance the Democrats have of winning. Kamala isn’t, he explains, because the “patriarchal nature of our society” stacks the cards against women, only “this time amplified by patriarchy’s twin evil: racism.” Good old race-baiting Blow: he never disappoints. Right as always, Charles: Harris has had nearly four years to prove to the country that she is more than a cackling, incoherent, shallow parody of a woke posturing hack, and has failed spectacularly.

“Harris is competent and capable,” Blow writes, offering no evidence of that assertion because there is none. Well, none beside the fact that she is sort of black, which for Blow, like that frightening delegate, is all that is required for such a verdict.

To be fair, he does provide some further evidence (as if more were needed) of the Left’s 21st century ethics rot with this passage: “The American University historian Allan Lichtman…told me on Sunday that pushing Biden out of the race would be a ‘tragic mistake for the Democrats,’ because he believes that the president remains his party’s best chance at winning the election.”

Running a man for President whom he knows is incapable of doing the job wouldn’t be the mistake, sayeth the distinguished historian. Not running him would be “tragic” because he might not win. For Lichtman’s party—about 95% of academia are card-carrying socialists, progressives and Democrats, remember—what matters is power, not democracy. This party that extols “choice” to justify killing viable human beings in the womb doesn’t want voters to have a fair choice on Election day if that mean Democrats might be rejected.

2. Apparently Biden, Jill and the Politburo are betting everything on the ABC News interview with President Joe Biden that will air “in its entirety as a prime time special” tomorrow at 8:00 P.M. ET/PT. Biden will be interviewed by former Clinton operative George Stephanopoulos earlier in the day and ABC News says a transcript of the unedited interview will also be made available immediately.

If this is the “Hail Mary” play, Biden must be being prepared, prepped and trained for the make-or-break interview, presumably more effectively than he was for the debate. What are the chances that he won’t have all of the questions in advance so he can cram, to the extent he can? My guess: none. The whole charade is obviously a ploy, and a meaningless one. Biden being able to do a single interview without crashing proves nothing: it’s like claiming that the Boeing 737 Max is safe an reliable because the planes land safely sometimes. The interview is a cynical tactic aimed at stupid people, hoping to move the polls out of the red zone.

3. And presumably ABC will make sure the interview is during Joe’s “good” hours. Reader JutGory offers this thought experiment and hypothetical multi-stage ethics quiz:

  • “Republicans who have clamored that he is incompetent might find it politically advantageous to keep him in. Democrats may want to keep him in because his replacement now throws the entire campaign into disarray.  Who will do the right thing?”
  • “If Biden can only work 6 hours per day, can he perform the duties of the office? No….”
  • “If no, does Harris and the Cabinet have an ethical duty to invoke 25th Amendment? Yes. Who will do it?”
  • “If Biden officially protests that he is competent and it goes to Congress, who will vote to remove him? Who won’t?’

4. CNN published this damning article, which admits that one reason the news media didn’t investigate the accounts that Biden was failing mentally was that they didn’t want to give credibility to “conservative sources.” The headline is funny: “Biden’s mental fitness could have been better covered leading up to the debate, some White House reporters acknowledge” (Gee, ya think?), but its revelations tells you the sorry state of American journalism. Better not to confirm crucial facts than to admit that “the other side ” may be right. Writes Steve Mur on “X”:

“This was the same dumb “logic” many “journalists” gave for not wanting to fully vet the lab leak hypothesis. And the border crisis. And the Russia collusion hoax. And the BLM corruption. And the Harvard, Columbia DEI plagiarism. And the antisemitism on campuses. And the harms of public school closures. And the…. And the…”

Indeed, the masks are off.

5. Writes military expert and author Austin Bay on his blog in part:

“The June 27 televised Biden-Trump debate fully exposed America’s and the Free World’s most grave strategic weakness: dominant mass media organizations that fail to hold their favored government, economic and media elites accountable for policy failures.

Strategic weakness — that’s a Washington wonk way of saying “a social, political or military flaw a dedicated enemy of America identifies and then exploits over time” with the goal of weakening or destroying the U.S.

Informed citizens keep free societies free. Informed citizens need facts, not propaganda. Reporting facts — no matter how awkward or politically damaging — sustains freedom. A news organization that sticks to the facts trusts its audience to make their own decisions.

Trust. A very important concept. Creating trust takes time. It requires mutual respect and demonstrated reliability over time.

Prior to the June 27 debate, major U.S. and international media knew Joe Biden suffers from dementia. Beltway insiders knew Biden cannot and does not function as president of the United States.

Yet the White House denied it. Videos showing Biden stumbling and mumbling were “cheap fakes.” Major news organizations like The New York Times, The Washington Post and NBC parroted the White House lies.

Essentially, the White House and its media allies told the American people, “Don’t believe your lying eyes.” They didn’t trust the American people.

Then came the June 27 debate….Now the White House and protective media lies no longer work.

Bingo.

I hope.

      • Satire isn’t in HuffPo’s skill set.

Michael West hit the nail on the head below: “The Left wing establishment is in full panic mode. AND PANICKING CREATURES DON’T THINK CLEARLY.” (bolds/caps mine)

Desperate times call for desperate measures (and Lefty’s pert’ ‘near engulfed in desperation), but to proclaim you intend to alter reality ahead of actually doing so?

That requires a special kind of hubris, a kind which presumes the people you intend to deceive are bespawling addlepates.

        PWS

  2. The Left wing establishment is in full panic mode. And panicking creatures don’t think clearly. They grasp at anything and many of the things grasped at can lead to violence and upheaval, just to get enough of a grip to try to make some breathing room.

Only, when the upheaval is a direct threat to a republic- now we really should be scared of what the fall out of the self-induced panic of the Left could be.

Not to continue to fall back on history’s greatest analogy, but we should really be studying the psychological melt down of the Romans between 133 BC and 27 BC.

    • Maybe, just maybe, someone, somewhere in the Left will realize that maybe they shouldn’t have been whipping their base into a froth about the imagined “existential threat” that Donald Trump and right wing ideology (that has changed little in the generations when it was always considered just another mainstream worldview) supposedly are.

  3. Kamala isn’t, he explains, because the “patriarchal nature of our society” stacks the cards against women, only “this time amplified by patriarchy’s twin evil: racism.”

The day after the debate, when it became clear that the defenestration of Biden was in the works, I predicted that the party would bring in a candidate other than Harris and justify the decision on the grounds of racism and sexism.

Apparently, Blow got the memo and is doing his part.

  4. Following off my comment from yesterday about how there’s a class of activist that pushes for policies that are completely at cross-purposes to the populations that they ostensibly represent:

I think that based on the messaging and actions of the DNC over the last number of years, black Americans who vote with their melanin are probably doing something rational and self interested, at least with the information they have.

Because really… Trump did more for Black Americans in his four very fraught years than the DNC has in decades. He did it as a function of raising all ships, but the fact of the matter is that the average Black experience in America was improving: Crime was down and the economy was good.

And that has to smart a little bit… I mean, as a demographic: Black Americans have supported the DNC, almost unconditionally, for decades, in part because they’re being told that the DNC has their interests at heart, they’re saying all the right things, the things you think you want to hear… And the Republicans won’t even pay that lip service. Then, despite majorities, sometimes supermajorities, the DNC gets worse results for you than the people you think are deeply racist. And then this bumbling ape of an RNC candidate comes and pulls the curtain away from the reality: The DNC is in it for themselves, your experience can be improved almost incidentally with just a smattering of proper economic management, and you’re just along for the ride. The emperor has no clothes.

I’m not saying that people like this would actually do good things for black Americans. Frankly… People are often their own worst diagnosticians, and even if you’re able to diagnose the problem, being able to solve it is a different, specialized skillset. But I will say that the Black Americans that think that their representation would be a good place to start in this process, particularly in a party where the messaging around representation has been so consistent isn’t entirely misguided.

  5. Sorry. I just don’t see any of this as a “mask off” event. Joe’s obviously been nothing but a ventriloquist’s dummy since day one. His condition, whether it’s dementia or Parkinson’s or something else, has only gotten worse over the last three plus years. Nothing that’s happened in the last week has been a revelation. And yes, I’m a cynic. That is, a person who believes people are motivated solely by self-interest.

  6. Re: the ABC “interview:” How will we know the entire thing won’t be scripted and that Joe will read off a teleprompter, and the whole thing will be spliced together video tape where the mumbles will be edited out and a correct re-reading of the mumble will be inserted? We won’t.

  7. Stephen Smith made the most important point. Until people like this crazed woman are ready to vote for Donald Trump, their opinions don’t matter. They WILL vote for a block of cheese if the DNC tells them to. Biden’s dementia is irrelevant. They are automatic votes for whatever candidate the DNC presents. Their opinions, desires, and needs do not matter. That is why Trump did more for black Americans than Obama or Biden did. Obama and Biden didn’t have to do anything for black Americans, their votes are hereditarily owed to the DNC.
