An “Enemy of the People” Indictment

Over at PJ Media, conservative writer David Strom provides a vivid overview of just how complicit the mainstream media has been in assisting Democrats and the White House as they deceived the public, both to elect Joe Biden President and protect him from suspicions that he was not able to do his job. “A Short History of the Coverup” should have been published in the New York Times; if that paper were a serious pursuer of ethical journalism and “all the news that’s fit to print,” it would make a thorough investigation of this scandal its top priority. It didn’t and it won’t, however, because that would involve implicating itself.

Strom writes at one point, “We can’t let them off the hook. We need America to face the fact that the media really IS the ‘enemy of the people.’ I hated that phrase in 2020; I think it is 100% true now. I was wrong.” Good for him; at least he admits it. This comment of Trump’s, one of his most important, is regularly used by the “Trump is Hitler” chorus to show that he’s an enemy of democracy. To the contrary: the enemy of democracy’s enemy is democracy’s friend. Ethics Alarms flagged Trump’s undiplomatic remark as spot on immediately, I will point out, patting myself heartily on the back.

Strom doesn’t go into this as his analysis is retrospective, but even as the news media is quickly trying to pivot so their complicity isn’t recognized by the dimmer members of the public, it is still spinning and lying for Democrats and Biden. They are still giving absurd amounts of airtime to gaslighters who insist that Joe is really as sharp as ever, faint praise that this is, and that he just “had a bad night.” Still. And anyway, Trump lies.

A disproportionate number of these deluded or dishonest purveyors of fantasy are black. This is not the way to discredit bigots and white supremacists. Why are so many black pundits, journalists and elected officials lying about this, or, in the alternative, why can’t they process such conclusive evidence and reach the only logical conclusion? Meanwhile, why are news networks giving so much airtime to people conveying falsehoods? Why don’t the hosts and interviewers interject, “What the hell are you talking about? How can you say that? Don’t come on this show and lie like that! It insults our viewers.” The New York Times, trying to make up for editorial and op-ed pieces calling for Biden to step down, felt it had to offer an editorial calling Donald Trump “dangerous.” No, a journalistic establishment that is committed to keeping a single party in power by deceiving and indoctrinating the public is dangerous. How I wish Trump was focused and articulate enough to explain this.

I was also impressed with how little criticism the news media offered regarding the obviously rigged nature of last night’s press conference. The reporters who would be called on had been decided in advance (hence Biden reading from a list), meaning that they knew they would be called on, and also that, in all likelihood, Biden was aware in advance what the topic of their questions would be. Has anyone ever seen this before? Nixon would never have called on Dan Rather if that had been the process then; Reagan would have avoided Sam Donaldson. This was not the “big boy” press conference that was advertised. “Big boy” Presidents call on tough reporters and take questions on the fly. Biden was still in his metaphorical diapers.

Addendum: Today’s idiotic Biden defense from a previously compos mentis Facebook friend: a meme that says “They keep saying that Biden can’t do the job, but he’s literally doing the job NOW!” Brilliant. And it got dozens of “likes.” Where’s that wood-chipper? Also, I saw a poll that says only 28% of the voting public believes Biden is “sharp.” Only? This depressing number is easily explained: Biden does indeed seem “sharp” to members of the public who are so dumb that plastic kitchen trash bags seem “sharp” to them.

  1. Looking back, I’ve realized there’s been nothing but yellow journalism during my lifetime. The idea that the media are honorable is simply false. The only time the media have investigated anything is when it involved going after Republicans. The media have been in the pocket of the Democrat party forever. Boy, was I ever a dope. The scales have fallen away from my eyes.

  2. I watched about half of the news conference. Biden did “ok,” though he did show some signs of aging. But that was far from enough to calm the panic among the Democrats who are calling for or considering calling for him to step aside. And yes, the pre-determined list of reporters (which he sometimes stumbled over in naming) was obviously a set up in his favor. In addition, his answers dodged the main issue for which the event was planned – his capability for the next 4 years.

    • He did ok? Okay reading from a teleprompter? In a press conference? That’s “normal?” It’s unprecedented. And Trump obliterates norms? I don’t think Trump has ever used a teleprompter. In any setting.

  3. “They keep saying that Biden can’t do the job, but he’s literally doing the job NOW!”

    I’ll see your meme and raise you.

    They keep saying that a Trump presidency will bring an end to Democracy as we know it, but he’s literally already been the President for four years and yet Democracy as we know it still exists today.

    • This is all based on the “Pay attention to what Trump says, because what he actually did and has done doesn’t matter.” I send these people to read FDR’s “Four Freedoms” speech, which is essentially a utopian call for Communism. “Freedom from Want”??? Seriously? FDR’s definition of that freedom was very narrow, but in plain English it reads like coded Marxism.

      • It wasn’t Communism, it was Fascism. FDR was a big fanboi of Mussolini. Fascism, that sought to bring societies under the scientific regulation of corporations and ‘experts’ was very appealing to Roosevelt. The top NRA bureaucrats were all sent to Italy to study under Mussolini and all the managers were required to read Mussolini’s book.

  4. The polling shows 28% of those surveyed think Joe is sharp. The question continues “Who are those 28%?” I heard a supposition which makes entirely too much sense–those defending Biden are, for the most part, government employees. This is a group that benefits more from Democratic administrations than from Republican. Thus, they have an unwavering loyalty to the current Democratic leaders and, until their union leaders tell them otherwise, will continue to do so. If this is half-true, we have only ourselves to blame for allowing the bureaucracy to continue to grow.

    • Other than voting for the only option other than Democrats, what can I do to limit the growth of the bureaucracy?

      • What’s more, I think Trump was surprised by the effectiveness of the bureaucracy in stopping him cold last time. I think when he says he’s learned a lot, he mustmostly means that he’s not going to go in this time expecting them to behave like employees – he knows they’re the enemy now. And it’s personal. They’re the ones who have the most to lose should he win again, and they they’ve blown their cover. Honestly, if Trump was elected and made it one of his primary missions to make the lives of the public employees miserable enough to quit, I think the country would owe him a huge debt of gratitude.

    • 28% is roughly equal to the percent of the population with an IQ less than 90.

      Using z-tables:

      z = (x – µ) / σ

      z = z-table value corresponding to .28 , µ = mean (100 IQ), σ = st. dev (15), x = IQ

      z = -0.58 is 28.1 %

      x = 90.72

  5. The reporters who would be called on had been decided in advance (hence Biden reading from a list), meaning that they knew they would be called on, and also that, in all likelihood, Biden was aware in advance what the topic of their questions would be. Has anyone ever seen this before?

    Uhhh… Yeah. I think the more relevant question is “Has Biden performed any non-scripted conferences?”
