…you know, like rest of the Establishment Left.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, one of the US’s largest and most powerful labor unions, declined to endorse a candidate for President. This was widely seen as a rebuke of Kamala Harris, but it also revealed the hypocrisy and ethics rot at the union’s core (and, sad to say, most unions’ cores). The Teamsters, as usual, polled members on their Presidential preferences prior to making an endorsement. The September telephone poll showed 58% of Teamsters members supporting Republican candidate Donald Trump, and 31% said they support Harris. Too close to call? The union justified its decision by citing major political divides among its membership and dissatisfaction with each candidate’s stances on key union priorities; I call BS. Is there any doubt that if the numbers had been reversed, the Teamsters would have endorsed Harris and pointed to a nearly 2-1 polling result to justify their decision?
The Teamsters didn’t like the outcome of a democratic process, so the union just ignored it. They belong with the Democrats.
I remember watching how the famous student takeover of Mass. Hall in Harvard Yard happened in the Fall of 1968. The SDS has a large crowd and a student was screaming about ROTC and the Vietnam war through a bullhorn. Then there was a vote among the students in the crowd whether the SDS should take over the school’s administration building. The vote was substantially against it. Then, after most of the crowd had left, the SDS took another vote with only a handful of students involved. This time, the radicals got the result they wanted, so that vote counted. And they took over the building.
Incidentally, the decision not to endorse Trump produced a classic Trump “lie.” After stating that the Teamsters “rank and file” had voted for a Trump endorsement, the GOP nominee noted that the union had failed to endorse the Democratic candidate for “the first time in many decades.”
In truth, the last time this happened was in 1996, which is fewer than three decades. I don’t call 2.8 “many.” Trump should have said “many years.”
I’m sure David Muir would have fact-checked it…

Well, here’s the good news. After that polling, at least they didn’t go ahead and endorse Biden.
Wasn’t it the Coal Miners union in West Virginia that endorsed Obama after he promised he do his best to ruin their industry and throw them out of work?
It does seem that I heard that the union leaders got some blowback after their appearance at the Republican National Convention. Guess they heard.
Except for their investment and pension funds, do labor unions even exist anymore, other than the public employees’ unions, which are well funded every election cycle by their local employers, er, politicians?
I guess I’m dating myself. I’m still waiting for someone to find Jimmy Hoffa’s body.
You know, the Communist parties in Soviet-occupied Eastern European countries pulled games like this in the post-war era to take over. They would print a ballot, put the Communist Party at the top and list all other parties as sub-parties underneath the Communist Party bloc so that you couldn’t vote for your preferred party without voting for the Communists. Then the Communists would get the most votes. Go figure.
At this point in history, ibeleivve Unions, are merely a money laundering operation so it executives can live well.
Counts of the voting of any insitution should be accomplished by 3rd parties, Not theexecutive committee or the rank and file. That third part shoudl publsihits findins immediately.
